So what?! When it comes to winning and showing who's best the Dueling Arena, arguments on ch. 200 and trading insults on the BBs don't do it. Racing against your fellow community members does.
This weeks airplane is the P-51B and this is the official posting from which the racers prepare. If you think you're hot stuff...put that theory to the test on Tuesday at 10pm Eastern in the Special Events Arena.
If you can't hack it...we'll put your name on the plaque in the ladies room.

Here's the race for this week:
Season 3 Race 7
1/17/2006
Terrain: Slot
Start Field: A1 (Knight)
VOX channel: 200
Plane: P-51B
Fuel Burn: ***To Be Announced***
Fuel: Player Choice
Takeoff NE
F3 view enabled
Heats: 3
Laps per Heat: 8
GullGutz Start
Flying Finish at Bomber Hanger.
Takeoff Northeast from A41 and the first turn is a reversal passing back through the grass bomer hangar passing through southwest. Once through the bomber hangar pass around both the water tower and radar tower keeping them to your left (port) side heading south toward the A1 town. Chicane through the radar towers passing around the first to the left (keeping it off your right wing) and the second to the right (keeping it off of your left wing) and now turning northeast toward A41 town. The approach to the town is done "blind" meaning you cannot see it directly from the A1 town. Choose your lines carefully! You must pass northwest through the two radar towers using them as a gate and then pass between the radar and water tower at A41 in order to fly through the A41 grass bomber hangar heading northeast. Left turn once through the hangar and it's back to A1 to fly southwest through the grass hangar which will be the finish line for each lap and the race.
***Important Note!*** I will announce fuel burn on race day. Throwing a little monkey wrench into the works with fuel management and selection to test the risk/reward assessment with fuel/weight savings. I will guarantee that 100% internal fuel will last the entire length of the race. Pit Stops will NOT be a requirement however are an option. Drop tanks will not be required but will too be an option.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a more traditional shaped race course putting a premium on race/fuel management but will also allow the P-51B's to stretch their legs and accelerate through each lap of the race. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone there!

I'd join but 10pm eastern is 3am here and I have to get up for work at 6am.
Pity really. Maybe I'll just have to give up work.
-
Looks like fun ~ will try to make it.
Dumb question #1 Are we armed and dangerous?
Dumb question # 2 Are collisions enabled?

I even live in eastern time and that is late for me. Need a time better for east coasters that have early AM jobs! :)

I've run a few races and had a hard time identifying the turns. The racing is FUN, though.
The greatest improvement for the racing league would be terrains with marked courses (ie: painted boundaries, painted turns, painted start/finish lines). I heard some terrains were being created. Is this true???

Not armed and no collisions. We have fly-thru aspects to nearly every terrain which are usually bomber hangars or bridges. Putting 25-30 airplanes through a bomber hangar within 5-10 seconds with collisions on wouldn't go over so well :)
Good questions!

We're getting our own racing terrain. It's got the Reno race course as the main feature but we're still working with the terrain team to get the rest of the map developed with various race courses and features. Some of the neat things we're working with are:
Bouys (water)
Lighthouses (that work at night!)
Various pylons
Billboards
Thats enough of a teaser for now. To see the reno section of our new map (all we had when I made the film) see this Fat Albert Demo (http://www.furballunderground.com/Guest/Golfer/Fat%20Albert%20Demo.wmv) I put together a few weeks ago.
We're also getting new racing themed skins as airplanes are redeveloped by HTC that our skinning team is creating.
Some of the skins:

a 1 man skinning team;)

Yes yes...please allow me to retract my previous statement.
Raptor01 is the creator, designer and maintainer of our Racing Terrain. All props, thanks, atta-boys and death threats go to Raptor01 and Rapto01 alone. Again...that's Raptor01.
I think he even has two...yes TWO slides dedicated to him in the Fat Albert movie :) Movin' on up in the world :aok

Why the F3 view enabled?
IMO should especially be disabled.
Makes it arcadish otherwise
If not for that it otherwise looks interesting.
HTC may want to consider a racing arena with specially designed maps & terrains so as to include markers and such specifically for that purpose
just a thought

How bout you come by and try a race before you criticize it.
Also...read the post with the pictures (4 up from this one) and link to a video and you'll see the groundwork of and some information about the new terrain. HTC has no bearing on the XAR league other than graciously providing us the tools to make it happen. The main tools that are provided are the Special Events arena and our very own section on these very forums under "Special Events." It's a community run, community sponsored event with 68KO, TracerX, HB555 and Myself as CMs. Raptor01 is our honorary team member for putting together and working on hard alone on completing the map which you proposed.
I don't speak for everyone but the F3 View is used very little but we do have it enabled. One reason is it greatly assists some players during the start when the airplanes can pile up on one another. I personally do not use it other than to look around during a straight section of the track to get an keep an eye on the field standings. The benefit outways any "arcadish" claims which is a verb not used by anyone who's actually attended a race.
You also have the choice to not press the F3 Key.

WE never had outside views enabled in FA for our bi weekly "Killer Canyons"
Talk about a blast ... guns were unabled for the 1st two mins ,,, you had to manage E and fuel really well along with getting as far ahead as possiable thru the canyon course ... then guns come alive and all hell brakes loose ... the rearm /fuel field in the center of the race course was always fun too ...

the way AH works is we as CMs can limit how much ammo you takeoff with. We can't add or take away in-flight so that wouldn't work with AH.
Would be neat though. There is the opportunity to shoot me at the end of season carnival now known as "Golfer's Goofy Games" or something of that nature. I donate myself as a "whack a mole" and also there is a gunfight in a fighter hangar using parachutists.
The reno guys don't shoot...neither do we :)

You can turn Kill Shooter on or off though
-
hehe...in that case we might start issuing 1500 rounds of cannons to every airplane with instructions to "fire away" :)
-
golfer some of us (me) would greatly appreciate unlimited ammo

You guys will have arena specific skins?
-
I love the Blue Angels skin for the B-24!

Credit goes to Raptor01 for the terrain and skins :) I say he did a heck of a job.

I'm glad to see that things are developing, Golfer.
The link to the film is dead this morning, unfortunately. :( I'll try again later.
