My friend signed up and is on different side then I am how do you change teams?

go into the O'club on the clipboard and click change teams and click rook knight or bish, then click ok. you will be switched

oh yeah or you can type  one of the ones listed below in your text bar in game to switch    
.country 1  for Bishops,

.country 2 for Knights

.country 3 for Rooks
