Title: Internet (explorer) Troubles
Post by: Golfer on January 16, 2006, 06:09:42 PM
Having some unusual problems with IE.  Running windows XP now and I can't find that magic "internet explorer repair tool" under system tools.

IE runs fine for a while and when I close the windows...they just stay there and an error message pops up.  Dumprep.exe runs to get rid of it and after a while they finally go away.

Now...I've bumped into the WinFixer virus and think it's a side-effect.  I did a system restore to long before there was a problem and its still happening.  I'm refreshing my Norton Antivirus software and purchased a copy of Xoft Spy which is supposed to take care of this virus well.

Can't find a fix...help!

Checked it out and followed the instructions...dumprep wasn't in either the startup selection or the registry location.

I don't need the dumprep disabled...It's always been fine and worked when I closed a program.

I've got a virus that I can't kill.  The WinFixer virus and I need help getting rid of that.

Norton Antivirus with the updated database didn't do it.  I also bought "XoftSpy" because supposedly it was supposed to kill it better than anything.

#$@%!#$%!#$^@%^@%^@$#%@#$^ (and thats a nice word I have for the #$%!$#%!$#%!$^!$^-ers who sit around all day and think up viruses)

Golfer,

Try Ewido. I just removed a very tricky Malware program off of my mothers computer and this is the only program that worked. They have a free version and it provides real-time protection.

My $.02

Ewido Anti-Malware program (http://www.ewido.net)

Hope this helps.

Hi- Golfer ....
2 things I've found out ... Norton AV is pure crap software, Syamantec is still just patching and adding more crap to that old code that Peter Norton sold to them many years ago  , ( same with McAfee for that matter ) and Firefox kicksazz for web browsing.
I have switched to NOD 32, two weeks ago ... It works perfect ( sofar ) and I have control over it . It's fast and has small footprint .
Spware Blaster is a good thing also, take a look at CW Shredder ... free tool also.
