Seems like a good deal.  My compressor alone cost that much.

What about the airbrush makes it a "dual" airbrush?  (I have only owned an airbrush for a year)

"dual Action" means the trigger or spray button pushes down AND back at the same time. The pushing down controls air flow pressure and the pull back controls the paint flow.

(to the original poster)
The page wouldn't display so i couldn't see what brand or price, but If you need any questions answered, I have been airbrushing since 1974, owned an airbrush store since 1985, And One on South street in Philadelphia.

Hya Nuttz,
good deal? 59.95 + $25.00 S/H
POWERCAT AIR BRUSH COMPRESSOR & DUAL ACTION AIRBRUSH
Spray Pattern is optimal at: 1/16" to 1-1/2."

I also found
BADGER AIR-BRUSH 155-1 ANTHEM KIT&BRAND NEW IN CASE
dual action, internal mix
right now bid is at $63.00, probably go a lot higher

Airbrush City 1620 Premium Dual Action Air-Brush Kit
dual action, internal mix
right now bid is at 39.75, buy it now for 49.95

Badger Crescendo 175 Airbrush like new air-brush
bidding at 41.95

I guess I should also ask, for model planes and cars do I need a dual action, or can I get good results with single action, especially when doing details and weathering?  Is there a big difference between external mix and internal mix as far as the finished results

thanks for helpin out

If you are airbrushing with a single button Badger airbrush, and it clogs constantly, what would cause this?  Wrong kind of paint?  Not enough thinner?

Reading up on the dual-action airbrushes I wonder if I should not have gotten one of those instead.

I thought about buying an airbrush cause I heard the people at Playboy make girls prettier with them, and I wanted to be able to do that.

Mickey, I think you may not be using enough reducer/thinner or your nozzles aren't clean enough.

JBA, what kind of things have you painted with your Badger 175? what kind of results?

so far all I can tell is the advantage of a dual action/internal mix air brush is it allows a finer/smaller spray pattern for detailed work.

I paint, plastic models, paper coverd balsa wood models, and now I'm painting plastic fishing lures and wood duck decoes.

My results as fine, limited my my own lack of skill.

I shot water base paints CREATEX,I shot with out thining, I turn up the pressure a bit to like 18 psi.
And Standard plastic model paints. these need thining I use xylene (pronouced zylene )

I bought my compresser here http://www.airbrushcity.com  $84 + $17 S/H to massachusetts.

I think I paid half list price for my airbrush maybe $65-75. if I find any receipt I let you know. but it's been 3 years.

I need to invent in one as well. Most of the models I've done used a rattle-can for the base coat and I hand-painted the details and weathering. Seemed to work ok, but I want to start doing it the right way. :)

Thanks JB.

Yea AirBrush city is one of those I was looking at.  I think I've decided on a single action airbrush.   My biggest concern was being able to airbrush camo patterns on 1/32 and 1/48 scale.   I have read that a dual action airbrush will give a smaller spray pattern and better paint control but they are more difficult to master for a first time user.   I went to a hobby store near where I work and spoke to one of the guys there to get his views and he showed me a 1/48 Typhoon and 109 he used a single action airbrush and they looked just fine.
I think my next step is to find a good book on using and caring for airbrushs and airbrush techniques for painting and weathering scale models. (I'm a cheap bastard so I'm trying to find one in used bookstores)

I'm still weeks away from starting any models yet.  I have 2 1/32 Bf109Es (Matchbox and Hasegawa) 1 1/32 Revell P-47D-25, 1 Monogram 1/48 Typhoon, and 1 AMT 1/48 P-36A Hawk.   All bought on Ebay last month for about $40 total ;).

I did the same thing to save on a few dollars but immediately regretted it as soon as I started using the single action airbrush.  I ended up buying a double action and so wasted the money spent on the single.

Don't be afraid of a double action.  You can always use it as a single action if you want to by holding the lever all the way back and just pushing down.

The added control and versatility of a double action is invaluable.  It does take some practice but it's not as hard as you might think.  If your serious about quality modeling, you'll never regret buying a double action airbrush IMO.

It dosen't take much time at all to get use to the double action, push down get air flow, slowly draw the tigger back get paint. the more you  pull back the bigger the opening becomes and the bigger the spot size you get.

so you hold down the airflow and draw back on the trigger at the same time?  maintaining pressure on both?

Yes.  Up and down controls airflow.  The harder you push the more air pressure you get.

Back and forth controls the amount of paint.  The farther back you pull, the more paint is pushed through the brush.

All it takes is a little practice.  It's intuitive and after a while you don't even have to think about it.
