So Im yakking on the phone with my accountant about some stuff we need to get together for some of the financial aspects of my son attending college as well as some various other topics When all of a sudden out of the next roo my son starts yelling at the top of his lungs "YES! YES! YES! YES! YES!"
And Im thinking that the Vikings have just signed some blockbuster player or coach or something inasmuch as we both have been following it pretty closely and not 10 minutes earlier I saw he was looking at the webpage he normally get then latest news on them from.
So Im like "would you shut the (#*$# up Im on the damn phone"
He just ignores me jumping up and down and bouncing all around like he just swallowed a whole bowl of mexican jumping beans. "YES! YES! YES YES!"
"Ok what the hell happened?" Im thinking, and head over to his computer and look at the screen. At which point it all becomes clear.
"Congradulations on your acceptance"
He just had found out he has been accepted to his first choice of colleges Rutgers University. And not only accepted. But has his choice of any of the three campuses it has including the main campus which it is my understanding they usually only reserve for those they think are the cream of the crop.
Too cool.
Ya done well boy
Now we just have to figure out how we're going ot pay for it LOL

FWIW there is a greasy tony's outside the University of Arizona campus in Tucson. They have the sign about no charge for extra grease.

That's cool about Rutgers. Its great when kids get encouraged to go to college instead of go directly into the workforce (not that there's anything wrong with that, but still).
So which campus will have the hottest girls on it? Which one has the College of Journalism, Communications, Liberal Arts, or Education? :lol

Congrats Dred! Rutgers is a pretty liberal college, my sister graduated from there...but I'm sure your son has his head on straight. :aok

Awesome... Just graduated from RU in 2001 (got a second Bachelors - long story). I was accepted to all campuses but chose Livingston (I was looking for a Liberal Arts education - BTW gofast - Livingston has the most heterosexual chicks ratio wise (Douglass has the most but it is an all-girl school)). It doesn't matter which college he enrolled in, it will be likely that he will have classes on most of them (including Douglass)
RU is a good school but there are a lot of things I found (uhm) interesting. Buses and parking come to mind (College ave campus doesn't really have parking...they say they do but not really). Depening upon his major he will end up having to take the bus (probably alot) between campuses and he may have to park at less populated lots (like BUSCH of Livingston). Not a problem but it is impossible to get from one class to another if they are back-back and located on different campuses (something to keep in mind). The phone-in/ online class registration it another weirdness (access to scheduling is based on year, GPA and some unkown other factors... WTF?) If he is unlucky he will have to battle for spaces in some popular classes event if he is at the top of his class. (All of this is lovingly known as the RU-screw... ) ;)
On the positive side, there are a ton of great resources on all campuses (make sure to talk to guidance administrators or student advisors to get the scoop - it will make dealing with some of the strange RU situations a little easier)
BTW:
To replace the legacy of Greasy Tony's RU has what they call the "Grease Trucks". I won't give too much of that secret away.
Good luck to your son at college (despite all of the weirdness it really is a great school) and tell him that if he has classes on Fridays then he is not paying enough attention when he signs up for classes....:)

Congrats, Dred...New Brunswick is the campus to be on. NB is actually a pretty nice town, campus is quite beautiful.
Now...what do I remember?...Passion Puddle in springtime, Old Queen's Tavern, The Rusty Screw (gone), Paddy's Bar, Ag Field Day, Thermonuclear Cluck U Buffalo Wings, Roach Coaches, Thomas Sweet Ice Cream..and bathtub Everclear and Kool-Aid when they tried to dry out the campus. My stomach turns even thinking about it...;)

could be the same group that had it here.
Johnson & Johnson bought out alot of Downtown New Brunswick and redeveloped it.And did a wonderful job I might add.
Part of it went to Rutgers The two places I mentioned are now dorms..least thats what I think they are.
Been a while since I've been down that way.
Anyway. is one of their main sandwiches called "The Trashcan"
And another called "The Kitchen Sink"?

Well he has seen how his mom and I have and sometimes often still struggle.
and we keep pointing out to him that while its not a guarantee of his success.
It will make his options a whole lot easier.
As for the women he is taking the "Tony Montana"(Scarface) approch to the female of the species.

He had a girlfriend a year or so back and learned the hard way the games they like to play (no offence ment but its true) Anyway. Seems to have left a bad taste in his mouth cause he hasnt had another steady one since.
They are like cats now, "Disposable commodities" lmao
He likes girls they just in his words "arent worth their aggravation" So none has lasted more then a few days
Seriously though. He seems more interested in getting the grades and making money.

That would explain what happpened to friend of mine though. Rutgers grad. Normally a very bright woman. But she has some rather interesting views.
Such as "We should open the borders with Mexico and let them all in and give them and the indians the land back"
Why?

I grew up in New Brunswick back in the days when it was known as "Little Harlem"
Beleive it or not. that downtown area was NOT the place you wanted to be at night back then.
ad there are places in that town where unless you have balls of steel or your crazy (like me) you dont want to be un armed.
Anyway. Back when I lived there Douglas was widely known for not only benig an all female school but also in have the worlds largest collection of UGLY women (with a capitol "UG")

I know all about the Grease Trucks. He has been hanging out around there on and off for over a year now (think he may have been tagging some of those RU women too)
Anyway. yes I've eaten a "Big fat B*tch" (Mods please dont edit. its the name of a sandwich for real and to call it anything else would be like calling Aces High, Pacman)
Pretty damn good sandwich too. But it still aint Greasy Tonys.

I didnt attend RU. technically. But I lived onCurch St Across from the RWJ (then middlesex hospital) parking Deck entrance Little Albany St. almost right across from Greasy Tonys with a buddy of mine before I got married so I might as well have. LOL There was never a shortage of parties at either location and attracted some of the college crowd.
Used to occasionally hang at the Old Queens and the CT. But the best entertainment was always at Smogies where the bartender (Cuban Joe)was just as likely to start be involved in a brawl as the customers.
used to like to get a couple beers,sit in a corner and watch the loonies act like loonies.
Then there was the GoGo bar around the corner "the Showcase Lounge" which was eventually knocked down to become a parking lot.
ahh the Cluck U Buffalo wings with a side order of "spuds"
Dont forget "Stuff Yer Face" for the Stromboli
I alwasy thought "the Flavor Factory" had the better ice cream hands down but for some reason Thomas Sweet always attracted the huge crowds. I never understood why but inasmuch as I detest standing in line I didnt mind not having to wait as long for Ice cream I thought tasted better anyway. lol
He'll have a blast Im sure.

Dred..I know the EXACT spot you refer to across from RWJ. Isn't there a great cheesesteak place in that neighborhood now? Was called "The Steakout". Man...what good cheesesteaks...and walking distance! My wife even remembers 'em.
Speaking of go-go bars, is The Lampost still there? Can picture it, but can't recall the street anymore. There was this one goddess I remember dating a coupla times...
Never had Flavor Factory ice cream...loved TS. Plus, they had the most incredible chocolate. "Meltaways". TBO, for sure. Since I lived on Robinson Street, it was just a quick walk, so lines were never really a problem.
Ah..nostalgia. Best of Luck to your boy.
