Assembly Leaders Call on Senate, Governor to Stop Blocking
Common-Sense Anti-Gun Violence Measures
Silver Urges Putting Public Safety Before NRA Interest
Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and Codes Committee Chair Joseph Lentol today announced the Assembly passed a comprehensive package of bills aimed at stopping the type of gun violence that has taken the lives of some 7,000 New Yorkers since 1999.
Calling for the Senate to set aside their "unwavering allegiance to the NRA and act in the best interest of New York's children and families," Silver said the Assembly plans to launch the opening day of the 2006 legislative session by adopting a series of measures to prevent guns from being diverted from the legal stream of commerce to individuals who are not legally entitled to possess life-threatening weapons.
Further down the page are 9 new restrictive gun laws to "Make the Streets Safer."
Please don't overlook the part where the Assault Weapon ban encompasses nearly all weapons.
Nor overlook the part where almost all ammunition is now banned.
Nor the part where all guns will require at least a 10 pound trigger pull.
-
By god, none of my dozen guns meet that criteria!
-
Making a law criminalizing criminal behavior that is already against the law is like making a law repealing gravity to prevent people from falling down. Of course this IS ny being discussed. They were stupid enough to elect hillary.
-
Yup I am betting Mr Crack dealer is realy scared now. This law will shurly stop him from getting that new assault weapon he was eyeing.

Cracking Down on Illegal Street Gun Trafficking (A.9280/Paulin)
Noting that one percent of gun dealers account for more than half of the legal guns that make their way into the illegal market, Silver said it was important to enact a comprehensive program to stop illegal guns from falling into the hands of criminals through commercial gun dealers. To that end, this bill not only takes aim at illegal trafficking but also imposes penalties on legal gun dealers guilty of dumping guns into the illegal market.
you mean to tell me there isnt already a law that punishes gun dealers for dumping their guns into the illegal market?

waiting for hang to chime in on this one...
Seems like one womanly blue city running the whole state to me tho. If the terrorists ever get a suitcase nuke....

Make new York City a state. Nothing but tax increases and more regualtions. NYC is like a bad apple that ruins it for the rest.
-
Oh come on guys, we all know that the preferred weapon of choice for drug dealers and Convenience store robbers is the legally purchased Barrett Model 50. Nothing says "Bust a Cap" like MISTAH FIDDY BMG.

Which is a bigger threat to a Politician? His friendly dealer, who happens to have a tec-9
or an unhappy constituant with a .50

I'm sure you realise they would ban those too, once they take some lives. Simply because they aren't dangerous until they are used... in hands that they should not be in.
It has nothing to do with actual protection, which is anti-American in itself, but feel good bull****.

I would just like to convey that these bills passed from feel good bull**** into full out gun bans...
-
Already sent a nastygram upstate. They pass this and our last 2 public ranges fold... and I'm outta here a lil soooner than I'd originally planned.
Be damned if i'll stay once they cut off my ammo supply.
-
What a moronic mastermind. If people are actualy stupid enough to buy into a load of crap like this, then I have a few bridges I can let go of cheap.
-
Wow, for once I am actually dissapointed with you guys.
All these bills PASSED on January 9th.
Though not all take effect right away.

Blaming guns for crime is the same as blaming the pen for mispelled words.

Sheeet...i grew up and have lived in New Yawk all my life....we know the deal. All illegal guns will be grand fathered in. they may be stupid but they ain't crazy!

I don't know what's amazing me more. The actual gun ***BANS*** or the nonchalantness of everyone here.
NO WEAPONS ARE BEING GRANDFATHERED IN UNDER THE ASSAULT WEAPON BAN

Thats right on the money. Gun laws only prevent the honest people from owning them.

Damn, never been accused of being the brightest bulb in the chandelier, but unless I'm missing something crucial, it would appear the State of New York is moving forward on legsilation that sharply restricts military pattern firearms...
Jackal, if you've got something more than a opinion on my relative intellegence germain to the subject, I'd really like to hear it!
-
Let me list the things that are completely banned as assault weapons:
"Anything that amplifies the dangerousness of the weapon."
"Detachable Magazine."
"Muzzle Break."
"Muzzle Compensator."
Note that no where in the law is the word "Rifle" used. Any gun with any one of those characteristics is to be destroyed by April 1, 2006, or turn in the gun, or register your gun.

Please don't misunderstand me, its not that I don't care, its just that I don't think you have much hope realistically of living in an overwhelmingly blue state and keeping your right to bear arms. I say this from experience having lived for many years in NJ. The citizens of the NY Metro (NY,CT, NJ) are some of the most anti-gun in the nation and they are going to keep on electing anti-gun legislators. Personally, I moved to the South, in 1992. Its not an ideal answer, but it did help to lower my bloodpressure on this issue.
You have my sincere sympathy.

Thanks. :(
I smelled a rat last August, and started stocking up on 'assault rifles' and ammunition. I'm in pretty fair shape now, and I've got 120 days before they start confiscating weapons from cars or ranges for 'testing', a year before they are outlawed outright and start stealing private property from the subjects.
I'll go out on a limb here and state they won't be too successful initially, but getting weapons and ammo into the state by traditional means will be sharply curtailed.
Prices will go up.
*sigh*
I'll be outta NY before the ban goes into effect and should be able to get my 'military pattern' weapons outta here before the pick up and test order goes into effect.
So long NY.. been here 30 years, it's now time to go.

that crazy liberal talk show chick was ranting about how the 4th amendment is invioable and absolute and changes with the time to include email and phone calls in the "papers" part.
but the 2nd was limited and provisional:rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl

How long be fore the same twits start calling for "common sense" measures to stop unlimited traffic on the highways into and out of the new Peoples Democratic Republic of Gnu Yolk. Look for guard stations and seach locations on the highways soon.
One can only hope the court process starts soon with a cease and desist order on the "State" before the measures take place.
One other thing. The Statue of Liberty needs a new location as it would now be a major illuistration of irony in Gnu Yolk.
-
But the true irony is that all those lawymakers who will pat themselves on the back...really think...that this silly law will have any affect on crime.
-
Actually it will have an effect on crime. Pretty much the same effect that prohibition had on alcohol related "crime".
-
I am a frequent visitor to New York, and know quite a lot of people there. AFAIK, none of the people I know owns a gun - that includes at least 2 women who live alone - and most are Democrats!!
OK guys, trot out all your stale old jokes - I'm ready.:lol
-
why not... you trotted out your old stale post about the two democrat women in new york who.... being the perfect example of all humans in new york.... don't own a gun..
my gawd... I guess I am being stuborn if beet can find two women in new york who don't have guns.

Hang... now you know how I feel about kalifornia.. I am gonna do the same but have to wait a couple years to retire. If they pass a new gun law before that I might have to bump up the timetable tho..
Blue and Red... they want a civil war I guess.

Technically the Statue is in NJ..not that NJ is much better. I figure two
years before I follow my family down to Charlotte, NC. The funny part is
my brother moved down about 3 months ago and all his neighbors are
Northeast refugees :)

I think the red states would be much better armed in that case.

What exactly would they be fighting with? I'm pretty sure there's legislation about slingshots too.
