Title: Laptop?
Post by: Sled on January 20, 2006, 09:31:57 PM
I was wondering if I could get some recommendations for a Laptop. I do not intend on running AH on it, but it is possible that I might want it to do that at some point. I do plane on using it to watch AH films, with the AH film viewer.

I would like to spend < 1000.00, preferably < 800.00.

It will mainly be used in the house on a wireless network, as the mobile computer for surfing the web, and checking e-mail around the house.

I guess I would say I am looking for the best "bang" for the buck, but who isn't?:)

I have been looking at some with the Turion processor, I guess the "power now" feature helps with battery life.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance

Check out Clevo... they make or made Alienware laptops and that company just put their own case on it with the Alienware logo and charged an extra 10%.

I got this baby, eh, 10 weeks ago, and it plays AH and every game pretty well. I don't use my tower anymore, much.

I got the P-M 2.2 / 128M 6600go and 1G RAM

At PCclub it's a tad out of your desired price range, but this is actually called a "Quanta barebook", which I've seen for less. PCclub re-names it "nPower", a truely ghey name...

I felt a bit dirty buying an Intel, always had AMD's... even my old Vaio, but I must say the P-M kicks and the 6600go aint too shabby.

Also check out this new one:

$999 Athlon64 3000+, 128M X600, 512M, 15" XGA... holds up to a 3400+

I personally have a Sony VAIO.  I got it for like $875 new 8 months ago, and it has been very good for me.  I usually play on my desktop with the upgraded video card, but I can still get at least 45-50 fps on the stock video card in my laptop when I'm away from home.  So, I really don't miss a beat.  Also, it has a built in Wireless adapter to pick up internet from a router.  Plus, the warranty and customer service Sony offers is 2nd to none.

Just my $.02
