Here are a few pics of a model I have built for Toad's father, who was the pilot of this bird in WWII.

Just got home Nuke.
WOW![/size]
He is going to be SO suprised and so thrilled!
It looks GREAT!
He often does "living history" stuff about WW2 at the schools. What an addition to his presentation THIS will make!
Thanks SO MUCH!
I really appreciate this.

No kidding. That is some superb and worthy work. Well done.

Very Nice Nuke!
Very nice indeed.
-
i must admit a very nice & clean model. What scale is that 1:32 ?
-
Very nice... I wish I could build them like that. Still trying to get good with my airbrush.
What kit is it?
-
It was my pleasure, Toad.
Thanks for the compliments guys.
It's 1/48th scale by Accurate Miniatures.
-
That is impressive. You have some model building talent.
-
Holy poop, that is damned purty...nice work!
-
Very very good work and a worthy cause as well.
-
Beautiful.
Great work Nuke.
-
So...smooth...
-
Ive been modeling for about 36 years now and thats a really sweet job nuke.
What are the details on the kit? Give us a synopsis on the build!
-
Yah, Nuke... how did you DO that?
The panel lines, the mottled camo on the tail, the engine soot, etc.
I'd love to hear the details.
I just keep looking at the pics. He is going to be amazed and so happy!

Anyone have any ideas on where I'd get a display case for this?
I think the length will be 13.5" and the wingspan 17" according to 1/48 scale dimensions.
-
Thats one of the best B-25 models ive ever seen . Very Very Nice . Hats off to ya. Building it for Toad's dad just makes it all that much better .

BTW, from what I can see Nuke has the nose art NAILED. Numbers and squadron markings (501st Black Panthers - horizontal tail stripe, orange cowlings) are historically correct too. WOOT!
-
Oh, yeah... PYRO.... THIS is what the AH B-25 skin should look like!!
-
WoW-O! NUKE that looks great. Makes me want to get back into the hobby again.
And yes Pyro! Beefcake demands B-25!
-
What do you use to weigh down the nose?
I built a b-25 for my Dad years ago (he was a radio/nav). When he passed I went to gather up some of his stuff, there it was hanging from the ceiling. It's in my den now, but compared to Nuke's model it looks like a kid did it. Hey a kid DID do it. :)

Ignore the doll, they will make a custome sized case.

Very nice.
I covet such skill.
-
can we get a close-up of the noseart?
-
Nose art is a Witch lying on a flying broom wearing what equates to a bikini. The airplane was named and painted before my Dad moved to the left seat on it. However, I'm quite certain he'd have had the bikini painted on had it not been there. That's my Dad. ;)
"Quitch" was "half-Queen, half-Witch" according to the naming story. The reference was apparently to her behavior with respect to how she flew. I guess there were some interesting problems inflight and some tough maintenance problems on the ground.
-
I'll try to get a build description for you guys. Thanks again for the compliments. I'm just happy that Toad likes it and I am happy that it turned out pretty good, for Toad's dad.
-
Awesome job Nuke! Only an artist could produce such work.
Would love a build description. Especially interested in the nose art and the panel lines. Did you under paint the panels or do an ink wash? Looks like both in some places.
Is there a book or other resource you could recommend for someone trying to learn to do models like that? I just finished a F9F and am now working on a 190F-8 but am having trouble making the finish look good.
-
WOW, that is sweet NUKE, Good job
-
Yeah, what the others have said - well done, Nuke!
-
