Go Hawks!

SeaHawks are goin to the motor city:aok

Nice to see you finally pay attention to 'em Rosco! :) Folks from around the country are ignoring the Hawks hoping we go away...no respect from the East, hell most of the folks on this board have only seen us play 1 game in regular season...its funny that they don't realize that the best team in football has been right here in the Pacific Northwest this year.
Steelers will lose to the Hawks. :) We have too many weapons, experienced QB playing with the same O-Line for 5 years now, MVP RB, #1 offense, #2 defense inside the 20 yard line....Go Hawks! The Hawks will probably be underdogs, so if you got cash, take the points! Its going to be ugly for the Steelers!

Yeaaa I remember way back saying the same thing about the Vikings who at the time had either pro bowl players or former probowl players at nearly every position.
remember. There is a reason they play the games ;)
that being said...Good luck.
I'll be rooting for em just because they dont have one yet

Heh, by a 2nd year NFL QB? Hahahahaha! I remember the same thing being said by Miami fans saying that about San Francisco fans back in Marino's 1st year in the NFL when he took his Dolphins to the SB only to get smoked by a better NFC team. :)
One question, who are the Steelers going to cover? Too many weapons...focus on our running game, we'll burn you deep. Focus on blitzing, we'll burn you over the middle. Focus on shutting down the pass and Shaun gets a 195 yard day. Its our turn. Feb. 5th will show you. ;)
Pittsburgh Steelers (14-5) vs. Seattle Seahawks (15-3)
The Skinny: We have two teams that feature hot quarterbacks. Ben Roethlisberger has been on fire in the playoffs, throwing seven touchdowns and one interception in three games. Matt Hasselbeck has also put up impressive numbers in two games. He's a quarterback who doesn't get his due. It looks like the team with the better quarterback play will be the team that wins. Mike Holmgren took Green Bay to two Super Bowls, winning one, while Bill Cowher has been to one, losing it. Both coaches have good staffs and get the most out of their teams. Both teams play hard and to the whistle. Seattle has never been to the Super Bowl, so that could affect them. The Steelers haven't won one since 1979, so that could be added pressure. They are evenly matched teams, even if the oddsmakers think Pittsburgh is the better team.
Key Team Matchup: Alexander won MVP honors by rushing for 1,880 yards and scoring 28 touchdowns. He then broke a playoff-game slump by rushing for 132 against the Panthers. But the Steelers do not give up yards on the ground. They allowed just 3.4 per rush this year, best in the league, and limited the Broncos, the league's second-ranked running team, to 90 yards. The Seahawks have a powerful offensive line that opens huge holes for Alexander. But doing it against the Steelers' defense will be tough.
Key Individual Matchup: The Seahawks put corner Marcus Trufant on Steve Smith a bunch Sunday and he did a heck of job. Expect to see him draw Hines Ward for much of the day in the Super Bowl. Ward is the Steelers' best receiver, so taking him away is a good idea. Roethlisberger had a big day spreading the ball around against the Broncos when Champ Bailey did a good job on Ward, so that must happen again if the Steelers are to move the ball on offense.
Players on the Spot: It's the two quarterbacks. Both will be playing in their first Super Bowl, and that adds a ton of pressure to a position that has plenty of it already. Here's a good guess that whichever quarterback plays the best will be the one that wins the ring. Will it be Roethlisberger or Hasselbeck? They've both been on fire.

I can guarantee the Hawks a win, all I need to do is bet on the Steelers.

What they lacked was the NFL's top offense, an MVP, a Rushing Title winner, and the number 2 defense inside the 20 yard line that has the most sacks in the NFL this year. ;)
This isn't an overrated AFC team. :)
Either way, I wish your team luck in the Superbowl. I predict it will be a good one, and that one team wins! :)

Superstition is out of scope when speaking of talent such as the Seahawks have this year. :) My most nervous point of the season was that first playoff game...that monkey has been shed off the back, now its finishing the road into the history books. :aok

See ... It worked :D

Edgerrin James? He has one a rushing title and was up there again this year.
MVP? who won it last year?
Defense? did we forget the steelers have a defense? that stopped the best offensive team in the stronger AFC?
Sacks? once again...steelers have the LB with most sacks and the the two OLBs together teamed up for more sacks than any other OLBs tandem in NFL this year.
2 year QB? sorry it didnt take our QB as many years to get here.
Im sorry, Seattle is going to have to worry about more than one WR in the SB. They will have RBs, TE and the WR's to worry about , not just one Steve smith and a 4th string RB, with thier 24th(?) ranked pass defense. It will be better matchup than you are trying to make it out to be.
I didnt even mention about the emotion the steelers are gonna have going into one of the all time great Steelers hometowns, probably the last game he will play in, and try to win the big one for him. I understand the Seattle gonna have some emotion with them too, first SB ever?
It will be a decent game.

Again, we're talking this year.

Stronger overrated AFC? Best offense in football was in the NFC, sir. Seattle Seahawks. Check the stats.

Again, check the stats, who has the most sacks in the NFL this year? Do your homework! Then ask yourself "Who is more mobile in the pocket, Hasselbeck or Big Ben". Granted, we've had a problem with the 3-4 defense team we played this year (Dallas) but I'm quite sure we'll adjust to that. Too many weapons. You can't have Palamoa covering everyone. ;)

Thats right. Inexperience has an edge over experienced, right? That will show come Feb. 5th, trust me.

Yes, finally! Competition! However we've been very good at stopping the run, I'll be amazed if both RB's get a combined 100 yards rushing or more. Our weakness is against the pass, but only between the 20 yard lines. ;)

Yeah, we've heard that emotion thing before, like the Colts were gonna stomp us when Dungy lost his son. Uh huh. Neutral crowd. Neutral site. Guess what...we have a bigger emotional edge, its called "No respect, now we earn it". Thats bigger than Home Town any day. ;)
Let the Game Begin!

just because one team from nfc happens to lead nfl in offense by no means makes the nfc a stronger conference. sorry.
sure you led league in sacks, point was, steelers know a few things about sacks, you dont have some "huge edge" there.
steelers beat what was considered by many the best team in the nfl, which had a rushing champ and mvp on it, last year or not, it dont matter, they were both up there again this year. that was in the playoffs with second year QB, and yes we were underdogs.
sorry, no edge for you there either.
2 many weapons? colts. nuff said. heck, even the bungals had a few weapons.
Seattle has nothing, and I mean nothing the steelers havent seen before. sorry.

Colts were overrated, just like the rest of the AFC. :) That was evident when we were beating the Colts first string offense 14-3 in Seattle on 12/24/05. (Colts yanked them after 19 minutes of football, fearful that we'd kill Peyton...)
I will wish your team good luck, as they will certainly need the breaks of good luck on Feb. 5th. :)

I really don't know how you can call the AFC overrated. The AFC is without a doubt the stronger conference and has been for several years.
Seattle is a good team, and undoubtedly the best in the NFC. I believe that your fan goggles are really preventing you from seeing what they're up against. Seattle hasn't had the strongest schedule this season, so being the number one offense isn't all that impressive. I mean, playing teams like Green Bay, Tennessee and St. Louis, you should be able to rack up the yards. Also keep in mind that when Seattle had to win another game to lock up the bye week in Tennessee, they just barely squeaked it out against a team that ended up 4-12. That's far from dominate.
Seattle will give a good fight, but they just won't be able to handle Pittsburgh's pass rush. The Steelers have the right defense to completely frustrate Seattle's attack. And Big Ben is definitely the real deal, so he'll be able to get the job done. He's young, but he's only lost 5 games in his entire NFL career. Pretty impressive stuff if you ask me.

Here's a good article about the upcoming game by an AP sportswriter that is pretty well known:
Steelers, Seahawks match up evenly
By DAVE GOLDBERG, AP Football Writer
Mon Jan 23, 1:57 AM
The Seattle Seahawks Shaun Alexander (37) carries the ball ...
SEATTLE - Before his Seahawks took apart Carolina, Seattle coach Mike Holmgren sat down to watch the other team that's Super Bowl bound.
``They're awfully good,'' Holmgren said of the Pittsburgh Steelers, who soundly beat Denver on Sunday.
By the looks of things, Holmgren wasn't kidding.
For now, though, he had said enough. After he finished celebrating, Holmgren and his family went out to dinner, probably the only chance he'll have to relax for a couple of weeks.
But fans can take that time to savor this matchup between the tradition-rich Steelers and an upstart from the Pacific Northwest.
It should be one of the better ones.
History is on Pittsburgh's side: The Steelers have four titles, all won during the six seasons from 1974-79 behind Terry Bradshaw, Franco Harris, Mean Joe Greene and a bunch of other Hall of Famers.
Seattle, on the other hand, hadn't won a playoff game in 21 years before last week and is going to the Super Bowl for the first time in its 30-year history.
Everything the Seahawks have going for them - and it's a lot - happened this season: Seattle entered the playoffs as the NFC's top-seeded team, scored more points than any other team in the regular season, and did it with Shaun Alexander, who won the league MVP honors going away.
The Steelers, meanwhile, were the last seed in the AFC, the first sixth-seed to make it to the big game and only the second team ever to get there by winning three games on the road.
And despite all of Pittsburgh's Super Bowl experience as a franchise, only one Steeler has been there - little-used cornerback Willie Williams, a starter on that '96 team. Seattle has five who have been there with other teams: wide receiver Joe Jurevicius; center Robbie Tobeck; defensive end Grant Wistrom; defensive tackle Chuck Darby; and punter Tom Rouen.
Even so, the oddsmakers favor the Steelers by 3 1/2 points for the game in Detroit in two weeks, presumably because they are the STEELERS, with four titles in six years in the 1970s.
That line seems to be more incentive for the Seahawks, who think of themselves as underappreciated.
``Frankly, we get sick of hearing it,'' All-Pro guard Steve Hutchinson said when told a top-seeded team is an underdog to a sixth seed. ``You'd think we'd earned respect. All we can do is keep winning.''
There's one sure human-interest footnote: Pittsburgh running back Jerome Bettis will get to play his first Super Bowl in his hometown, a fitting conclusion to a 13-year career for the man who is fifth on the NFL's career rushing list.
Pittsburgh has the incentive to win one for their enormously popular running back.
``I can't imagine anything better,'' Bettis said after the Steelers' win. ``I'm going home.''
Just as interesting is that both teams are playing at their best right now.
Seattle's 34-14 victory over Carolina in the NFC title game is part of a 14-game run in which the only loss was the regular-season finale, when the Seahawks rested their starters for most of the game in Green Bay.
And Pittsburgh's 34-17 win in Denver was its seventh in a row - the Steelers consider every one of them a playoff game after a 7-5 start because they need every one of their six straight to end the season just to make it into the playoffs.
The quarterback matchup also has plenty to ponder.
Pittsburgh's Ben Roethlisberger, who had five interceptions in two playoff games as a rookie last season, has only one in three postseason games this year.
``It has been like night and day,'' Roethlisberger said after Sunday's game.
Seattle's Matt Hasselbeck, who in his first playoff game two years ago in Green Bay threw an interception that was returned for a game-winning touchdown in overtime, also has blossomed in these playoffs. He was 20-of-28 for 219 yards and two touchdowns Sunday.
The running back matchup: Pittsburgh speedster Willie Parker and Bettis, the power back, against Alexander. The MVP left with a concussion in the first quarter of last week's win over Washington, but showed no ill effects Sunday, carrying 32 times for 132 yards and two TDs.
And the defenses?
The Steelers have been traditionally known for it and were all over Denver's Jake Plummer on Sunday, forcing two interceptions and sacking him three times.
But Seattle's defense, overshadowed by the NFL's highest-scoring offense in the regular season, showed Sunday what it can do by shutting down the league's hottest postseason QB, the Panthers' Jake Delhomme. They did it with pressure up the middle, making him throw off his back foot and keeping him from getting the ball to Steve Smith, the NFL's most dangerous receiver this season.
The coaches are another even match.
Seattle's Mike Holmgren and Pittsburgh's Bill Cowher both became head coaches in 1992, and are the league's two longest-tenured in that position. Cowher has been with Pittsburgh for his whole career; Holmgren moved to Seattle in 1999.
Holmgren won one Super Bowl with the Packers and lost another. Cowher's Steelers lost the 1996 Super Bowl to Dallas and are 2-4 in AFC title games, but the fact that they've been to six in the past 12 years speaks volumes about his consistency as a coach.
There might be one factor favoring the Steelers.
They play one of the most effective 3-4 defenses in the NFL, blitzing linebackers from different angles, usually starting with Joey Porter from the outside.
Seattle played only one 3-4 all season - against Dallas - and trouble with it before winning 13-10.
``It's different,'' said Tobeck, who played in the 1999 Super Bowl with Atlanta. ``They have a great defensive line. Fortunately, we have a couple of weeks to prepare for them.''
-
I still think Dallas has the best looking cheerleaders! They look pretty damn good in them hot pants!:aok

Sacks are a good stat.
But there is an even more important one.
Points allowed. Particularly Points allowed per game.
(although points allowed in the 1st 3 qtrs might be better studied as the "prevent defence" tends to give up alot of points in the 4th qtr)
Dont know which of the two teams are better in any of these catagories or which team in the NFL led this year as I didnt look it up.
Just thought I'd throw it out there for something else for you two to argue about ;)

When a 6th seed team who started 7-5 takes down 3 of the better-recordd AFC teams in the AFC playoffs, that's an overrated conference. Do you know the win difference between AFC and NFC? 4 games. Yep. Just 4 games. Now you know, its all hype. I actually wouldn't say AFC is overrated, its more like the NFC is UNDERrated. They look pretty damn even to me.

Seattle has allowed 16.9 points per game. Steelers 16.1. But again, they haven't faced the highest scoring NFL team yet, the Seattle Seahawks. :)
Offensive scoring=28.2 pts per game for Seattle, 24.3 for Pittsburgh.

Because the 6th seed made it to the big one the whole AFC is overrated? And the NFC is underrated? Hmmmm.... My opinion is that any of the AFC teams that made it to the playoffs would have the best shot of winning the bowl over the NFC's top dog. Sorry, just my opinion. NFC hasn't been that strong since the Cowboys run.

Regardless of our opinions...the only thing that I'm even remotely concerned about in this upcoming super bowl is not Big (immobile) Ben, its not the Steelers running game, we can shut that down, no worries. Its not their wide receivers, nope. Its the 3-4 Defense. If we lose this game, it will be due to the fact that Pittsburgh executed the 3-4 defense to a perfection, and if they do happen to do this, I will be the first to congratulate the Steeler organization for a good plan executed.

I agree that the Pitt defense is going to be one of the toughest parts for Seattle. Cowher is great at bringing pressure from off the wall places and rattling a quarterback to no end. (see the game against Indy)
I think that you might be underestimating the offense a bit though. I watch every game that comes on my tv and that included quite a few Steelers matchups this year. They are very good at throwing in little twists that people aren't prepared for. On top of that, their execution of the bread and butter plays has been superb. I think Seattle can take away the run, but I don't think they can take away the run AND the pass at the same time. Nobody else has been able to yet. Kind of a pick your poison. IMO Seattle's best bet is to lock down the receivers like they did against Carolina and force Pittsburgh to run the ball consistently. Parker is known to get a little loose with the ball, and that can create some turnovers.
I don't say any of this to take away from what the Seahawks have done this year. It's been a stellar run for them. But if I was a betting man, I'd say Pittsburgh by 10.

May not have made the playoffs this year.
Might not have the best looking cheerleaders in the league. (though quite a few are pretty hot) but.

You can pull as many stats and quotes and articles out of your bellybutton as you want, but that means nothing compared to who wants it more.
I believe Steelers are still pissed about not playing Eagles last year, so they've been taking it out on everyone on the way here.
Steelers by 13.

what was scoring offense against teams over 500? 18? far cry from what they scored against he Cardinals(x2), 49ers, Rams, Philly, Green Bay, Houston, Tennessee...some real defensive power houses there to pad the stats against.
stats dont mean squat, just like in AH. sorry.

LOL the best hit I saw Bosworth make was the one where he ended up being literally run over by Bo Jackson:rofl
truth though I think Boz was a good player int he wrong scheme.
Had he been with another team using a different style defence he probably would have been a standout player
