My ati 9800 pro appears to be on its last leg so I just ordered an ati x850xt as a replacement. I saw somewhere on here that you run the platinum edition of this card.
My question concerns drivers. As read here, I see that x800 card users should use the the latest catalyst drivers. But how do I get around using the CCC? I really don't want to install that hog. Use an old control panel version or ati-tools? In your opinion, what is the best option? Any other tips on this card?
Thanks in advance.

It is a shame ATI quit supplying the control panel in favor of the CCC. I use the last drivers with the control panel and they seem to be solid. I cannot remember off the top of my head the version number.
It runs pretty warm, and needs a lot of power. Just make sure you have ample power (good power) and good air flow around the card.
I replaced the stock cooler with an Artic Cooler 5 and am very happy with it. I also added a Zalman internal 92mm fan to move the air directly behind the video card, which also happens to help keep the Northbridge cooler.

Omega drivers and some other tweaked drivers come without the CCC still. When I get home I can give ya the website for them. They are also the latest drivers to.
