Fooling around with the film viewer tonite.  Kinda liked the look of these two screenshots.  Brooke in the 74 Squadron Spit I and me in the 54 Squadron Spit I.

Why do screenshots and film come out so dark?

Shot 1: sun is "opposite" the planes, shining on the side you can't see. You're seeing shadow.

Shot 2: sun is "up" (see the wings are nice and bright) but fuselage sides are not getting the light they need.

It's all a matter of lighting.

i would say though, the whole of the BoB scenario was held in rather poor lighting.....like perma-dusk or something.
