this is a very rare thing to experence.

last time i found someone worthy of it in the MA was after smoking both wolfala's P38 engines. escorted him a few miles and swung away.

I would have shed a tear for the cross-country comraderie and then blown through and shot both of you.  Naturally I would have saluted on Ch200 afterward.  :)

Why waste ammo on someone thats already "out of fight" anyway? If i wanted easy kills, id go shoot the drones offline.

So yes, i usually let people go that are deadstick or RTB smoking/low fuel/ammo. But ive come to not expect that courtesy from others.

It's a classic prisoner's dilemma, Schatzi.  If everybody allows everybody else who is smoking, out of ammo, or our of fuel return to base, then the one person who is willing to pretend to be out of ammo or fuel gains a huge tactical advantage against the others.    Naturally everybody realizes this fact, so everybody has an incentive to lie about being out of fuel or ammo to survive when the going gets tough, and pretty soon you have lots of hurt feelings when people who lie to those being nice to them shoot them down when least expected.

Be nice if you like, but realize that the social politics of the game really do not reward that sort of behavior.  Thus we would rarely expect to observe it.

Bah ... I use to let the smokers leave the scene, until as Lev pointed out ... they faked it and then they come back and either kill someone else or take me out cause I have dismissed them and am involved with someone else. Not any more ... If your red ... then your dead.

If your a vulchin' puke and your engine is smoked or deadstick ... I will kill you with great pleasure ... especially if you are trying to ditch ... nothing better than poppin' a puke on the ground with no wings.

I have on a couple of occasions when involved in a 1 v 1 with no one else around, allowed the smoker to leave the scene with his/her life ... but if there is at least one red guy in the area ... then you die.

And if your in a chute ... whoa baby ... target practice time ... nothing better than poppin' a meat popsicle.

After all ... everytime we make someone cry ... God creates a kitten.

Yup, did this to shreck the other night. Smoked his La7... Naturally he hi the deck and started running for home. I got tangled up with 2 spit16's only to look back and see shreck reversing back in for a pick. Lucky for me I was able to reverse in time to fill his face with lead before I got rammed by one of the spit16s.

As i said... i dont expect that sort of behaviour, at least not in the MA. It simply wouldnt be 'human'. I *do* sort of expect it in the DA and to a degree in the AvA.

To me this game is about enjoying myself. I dont take satisfaction from killing basically defenseless planes, hence the reason why i let them go. Purely selfish in a way.

And let me add that this sort of "battle honor" and respectful manners towards red planes *does* exist in MA. Few and far between (as you can usually count on a BK screaming through and cherry picking ;)) but it is there. Lets hope it never vanishes completely.

HAHAHHAHAHAHA  Dr. Phil is so useless.

So what no one is going to complain that there are more than 2 BKs on this thread LOLH.

If I have a good fight and I mortally wound a plane, F yeah I'm gonna kill it if only to know who put up a good fight.

If I end up ditching, I'll sit there till someone kills me.  There is nothing worse than leaving a fight except to RTB or getting killed.  Anything else means you aren't fighting hard enough.

Slap you gotta cut back on the meat popsicles they will make you fat and your fingernails grow.  :D

Save the chivalry for the ladies.  we'll in this case they did. :D

depends, if i know who the enemy pilot is and i respect the person, then yeah i may let em leave, but like so many of you have pointed out, smokers and flamers usually come back and try for the HO because at that point they don't care about dying... Most of the time though I won't leave my perch to go chasing after some yahoo that is now diving to the deck after i sprayed some bullets into his engine or whatever, unless maybe he did something dweebish like try and HO me, then teh must die

It's like steppin on ants.  You've got the upper hand and they're totally helpless.  The PETA part of you says you shouldn't, but then the cherry-pickin-vulcher in you says you should.

I'll pretty much always try and smoke 'em now.  The last time when I escorted someone towards home, they called all their squaddies in La7s to jump my arse.  Chivalry

AW was a smaller community with a high percentage of people stuck around a while, so it was more likely to run across people you knew and exercise this kind of chivalry.

I generally won't waste my altitude to go after a low smoker ... unless it's a base porker ... then they die.

Now, honor may be one thing, but balls are another (forgive my vulgarity).

I was in Ju88s and on TT island hitting one of the air fields, about, oh, say 12k or so. I'd survived 2 hard attacks by a yak and a spit (killed both) but lost oil in both engines and my last fuel tank was hit... So I'm running as fast as I can to cover 30+miles to the nearest field (ours also on TT island) and I'm gliding best as I can with 3 black trails and 2 whites coming from my wings, props feathered for max coasting and I see high B24s heading to the field I"m heading to. This is after 10 minutes of dead stick gliding, already. I radio in the alert, but.. LO and BEHOLD!

OMFG get this...

The B24s enter a formation dive and the guy tries shooting me with his belly guns from 1k behind and above. I'm closer to the field so I can nose down a bit to save my arse, and I"m shooting out the back as much as I can with the 7mms from my Ju88 but this guy noses down more and bores down onto me, kills me with his nose turret!

I was furious for about 2 minutes, then I was struck by the tenacity of this bomber. I actually congratulated him (after I calmed down lol) for making the effort!

I never get any quarter so I never give any. I might pass up a con that's already smoking but usually if I'm in a fight and I smoke somebody I'll press it til either of us is dead, and usually they will too.

As for leaving when I get smoked: I do very often when it's a PW. I do after a minute or two when it's my oil. I do immediately if it's my radiator. I don't always make it away when it's any of these.

I've let a few go in my time here. Not many , but a few. I have tried letting a few go only to have them come back as well.

I guess , in a way , there is a certain honor at times when letting a smoking plane go home. Perhaps a chivalry thing. I don't know. It is a game after all. Just sometimes ya feel like the guy put up a heak of a fight , you have him wounded and he prolly won't make it home , so the threat is gone really. Maybe the wrong thing to do. But I've done it.

What get's me is this. And , this is mainly on bombers. You make a pass , and that pass gets the lead buff flaming. Low and behold here comes someone in and just hammers him. Kill lost.

Flyinig what I fly alot , the Hurri , I don't get all that much ammo. SO wasting it on a flaming buff , that WILL blow up seems pointless to me. But these 50 cal guys , OMG they will light em up.

This happened to a squaddie of mine today and we were actually talking about this same thing. He was miffed , and I understand it , that someone would just keep on that flaming buff and basically steal his kill.

If you knew this squaddie you would certainly feel for him. He is the nicest guy , and works so hard for each kill that he gets. He is a pretty good fighter guy but doesn't like the fast pace action of a furball. SO when he gets a kill he is rather excited about it. Being an older gentleman and as I said just a real nice guy , I'm sure you could understand.

I have seen the smokers come back and kill me. I've seen more come back so I get to finish them off. But , if I get them basically damaged enough , to where they bug out , i'll let them go. Sometimes. If its someone that I feel is WAY better than me , and I know he killed a few and is trying to get home , then  maybe I'll try to get them for vengence sake. But not often.

It just boils down to how you want to play. There is no right way , or wrong way. Some see honor in it , some don't. Some try to play a role play type of game. Some dont. Doesn't make them right or wrong. Just makes them different.

Some take it seriously. Some don't. Some get ticked because they lose a base. Some don't. Some Land grab like there is no tomorrow. Some fuball like it's their last fight. Some Cherry pick and brag of the elite skills. Some call em on it and find out it's the truth. Some have great SA. Some have none. Some can shoot great. Some cant hit nothing with out 1400 50cals for and assist.

It's a game. Feeling honorable for letting someone go home , well there is really nothing wrong with it. Feeling great about shooting a chute , well thats fine as well. Making yourself feel good and proud at others expense by berating them on 200 or private , well thats not cool at all.

There is IMO a certain part of us all that love the roll of the dice. The gamble. The fight purley without bombs and rockets. ACM that is just so hard to keep up with that you learn something almost everytime you fight that person. We all just love to sit down , logon , and find OUR game. Whatever OUR game is.

So , fight. Fight til you have no ammo. Return home for those WTG's and Atta boys from squaddies. There really ISNT anything wrong with that. Brag about how you kicked someones tail on the Squad Channel. It's great fun. But leave the pesty crabbiness that comes from being better than someone away. Friendly banter is great.

End of soapbox.  sorry.
