Well, it's finally happening. After a lifelong facination with aircraft, inherited from both my grandpa's who were both aeronautical engineers, I am now training for my private pilots licence. Got my insurance, got my medical, got access to a plane and an instructor.

The plane is a 7kcab Citabria, newly overhauled, brand new wings and paint. This is the inverted rated aircraft with oil sump. I plan on learning how to puke real good in this baby. The sweetest part of this deal is it is essentially FREE. My good friend is allowing my full use of his plane, gratis, gotta pay for gas and oil.

The trainer is a good friend and CFI, who has agreed to train me in exchage for time in the citabria. He knows his ***** and is going to be a commercial jet pilot soon.

I'm already 1/2 way through the FAA knowledge test, and I'm not intimidated like I was at 1st. The oral exam looks tougher.

Who woulda thunk all this flight-sim time is gonna pay off?

Starting off in style.
Oil isn't a big cost, but fuel is.  $30 hour in that one I'd bet.

Check out insurance coverage, will his cover you in a crash, or should you take out your own policy!  If you aren't listed on his policy, and if it isnt covered for flight training, you HAVE to get your own policy.

This is a very important issue to have resolved before you fly it even for one minute.

Got my own policy. $600 for year. Plane is covered under the owners insurance and my CFI has his own insurance, we got triple coverage.

Thats good to hear.  You might be surprised how many have been burned by this lack of planning.

Looks like a nice ride, enjoy the challenge and the fun you will have.  Learning in a tailwheel will make you a better and more precise pilot right from the beginning.

Congrats and good luck with your training. Getting your license in a conventional gear plane is the best way to go IMO. I wish I had done so.

That's a sweet looking bird, I also am envious.

Getting a tailwheel endorsement is the toughest thing I've tried to do so far
