AIR CRASH RESCUE NEWS: September 3, 2000 -
Skydiver Trapped Under Plane
DUNBAR, Pennsylvania (USA) - A skydiver hung helplessly in the air for half
an hour when his boot got caught on the underside of a plane he had jumped
out of. He survived with only minor cuts and bruises.
Andy Judy of Morgantown, W.Va., was trapped 10,500 feet above the ground
Saturday until the Cessna 182 touched down and he was freed.
``When we got to him, he looked at us and said, 'My gosh, am I lucky,''' said
Don Bick, co-owner of the Pittsburgh Skydiving Center in Dunbar, about 40
miles southeast of Pittsburgh.
Judy was one of four skydivers attempting a group jump Saturday when he got
caught under the plane. His parachute was not damaged, so he tried
unsuccessfully to free himself by unzipping and unfastening his flying suit
and boots.
Officials at Connersville Airport in Unbar sent another plane into the air to
try to help, but that pilot ``determined there was nothing to do,'' Bike said.
The pilot of the Cesura finally decided to land in a field beside the
airport's paved runway, hoping the ground would be soft.
Bike, state police and onlookers quickly scoured the grass and runway for
rocks and sharp objects that could injure Judy.
``We had every bit of emergency medical services crews available in the
county standing by,'' Bike said.
Judy was treated at a hospital in Morgantown and released.

DUDE! I had a similiar story happen to me.. It all happened 45 years ago....
I was on a C-47 in WW2 flying over Hitler's house. I tried to jump out and kill him, but Yeager's cat jumped out and mauled my face off. Then, I couldnt see Hitler so I had to ask Barney where he was gonna get his magic boota ao I could kikc his bellybutton all the way to Bujoni land. But barney was flying his P-47, and got shot down by some UBER (dunn what it means) Baby Bop and I was all like ooohohh ya I got the big gun amnd I shot down baby bop but barney CHUte failed so i dove down to try and get him bt I didn't, and hitler told yeager to make him a Kite to fly,but yeager hopeed in his g-89 and tookout a B0-11 ith his MAC-1444. THen an UBER135 came along and tookout a B-09922 and shot the libing 2467 out of Hitler's nose called biggy wiggy. Then, I wokeup to find Banrey alive and we were on a train in the ocean called BOOOOOY. THen the train made a sharp left turn, and we were thrown wing o thw uber,s sno i sed but hee jst luuked at mea and sand box nooooooooo but i maganged to srvive theatttac. Yay!!! Why I don't Sleep At Night, reason #423
Because there's been instances when a car has driven off the road and smacked into a house, almost injuring people inside.
Why I don't Breathe While Outside
Becase there's been instances of people inhaling toxic chemicals.
Why I....you get the point (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
Sky diving isn't statisically dangerous (still, the lift up scares the hell outta me) and has a very distinct line between fun and very unfun. Skydivers accept this small risk, just as golfers playing in bad weather accept the possibility of becoming lightning rods (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
Don't think the plane I jump out of has an exit that allows me to get trapped (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif).
Ya never know, so one better be prepared.

A person who jumps out of perfectly good airplanes?
Does the term "natural selection" mean anything to you?

funked:
there ain't no perfectly good plane (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
Ours has silvertape here and there, and a cracked window (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif).
But the appeal of skydving (which is also what scares the hell out of me, and I don't like that at all) is that it can provide at least two things:
In a world of grey choices, opinions, superficiality and whatnot, it gives you a very black and white situation: you either die, or you live. Sometimes, I feel a need for that.
Also, it gives you total self reliance (and equipment reliance (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)). When you're out there alone, nothing ain't gonna help you but yourself if something goes wrong. No mommy, no state. Nor is it important how much you earn, how good looking you are, how much others respect you, what your K/D ratio is and so forth.
Only did 13 jumps this summer, and was scared toejamless on the way up on every one of them. But they say that the fear goes away after about 30 jumps, so I'll just have to keep going (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
The skydive itself is simply unbelievable. Very thrilling, life enhancing and ego boosting. And a bit harder than what Hasselhoff makes it look like. That dude starts skysurfing on his first jump, pulls the wrong chords (although in Baywatch World it's the right), chut doesn't deploy, so what does he do? he aim for the water, puts feet tight together and impacts. And survives.)
American pop culture at its very best. Gimme the babes instead.

StSanta..Only 13 jumps this summer? Wow, not too bad. I have 5 total, 2 static and 3 freefall. This was back in 1975...old round chutes. Have been thinking about doing it one more time. Would like to try the newer equipment. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Funked, have you ever been close to those planes? After that you would not call them perfectly good.

No no no
The Americans think: "Let's see, the Euros like this, so we can use it to lighten their wallets!"
I don't know anybody who watches that show. I think it's mostly teenagers and very lonely men looking for stimulation.

hehe santa 13 jumps ? thought u already have ur licence. i made 17 jumps now the last 3 weeks, but no stinkin static line! AFF rules ! (only static line i have is reserve static line, what give a little extra safety). i did my altitude reduction jumps last saturday outta a cessna 172 (not sure) in 1500m and the 2nd outta a skyvan 1200m. that kicks but its annoying to pack ur chute 40mins to have 10 seconds of free fall.
btw my little sister did her 1st ballon jump outta 1500, she said thats kinda like jumping outta a window (no relative wind). she got the jump for free.... i h8 her, maybe i also should color my hair blonde.

Becks, we only do static line for the first 6 jumps, then we freefall.
No stinking instructor to help you out.
Bad weather caused me to only do 13 jumps, and it ain't looking good for the weekend either (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif).
Summer in DK/Sweden has been awful.

hi all:
static line, no thank you.
my first four jumps where IAD, (instructor assisted deployment)the next 180 or so where free fall.
Santa, dont worry about the storys you will hear, just keep doing what you enjoy doing.
and Santa, where do you live, if you are close to montana, you have to go there for the Aug long weekend, great event then.
drop zone is called lost praries, and it is a blast, ive been twice.
and wait till you start doing relative work, ohhh the fun you are in for, heres a little tip for some crazy fun, when you are doing RW, and the fomation zoo's, hold on to somebody or two if you can, ride it down a couple thousand feet, what a hoot. just make sure to know your alt so you can break off in time and track for distance.
and one more thing, dont talk about skydiving when im on line to much, i will want to run out, buy new gear and start up again. and at about $5000 US last i heard, i dont know if i can afford it again.

I climbed 8 times on the wheel step from a cessna., and jumped off i remember my first jump i must have blackout for 3 sec the jumps after it i enjoyed watching the cessna.
8 jumps static line very sissy maybe but i like flying better. Btw i made those jumps when i was in the army for only 150 dollar
square chute. I rather invest my money in gliding maybe gonna do that someday.
when my brother lived near the airfield there was a accident once
i skydiver fell in his backyard making a hole in his yard a bout 40 centimetres deep
a very ugly sight. And damn she was a women too (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)
Most accident happen with the more proffesional skydivers who forget sometimes pulling the cord. Or they going too far
anyway parachuting is a nice experience also in AH i open always very low mostly having a openchute for about 5 sec before a land (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I use to be a member of the US Air National Gaurd (Air Force Reserves for you Non-US people).
My unit flew C-130's, plus I was a qualified parachute rigger and air drop inspector.
So lets just say I have spent plenty of time watching "Airborne" exercises. Including the results of a "malfunction" of a two thousand pound load when its G11 parachute release failed in the aircraft. (can you say six foot deep crater?)
And we have a saying.....

hi all:
well to start with Bug, I am not saying static line is sissy jumping, just that I would not want use a static line.
and as for accidents, yes, most fo them are experanced jumpers, but it is not that they forget to open there chute.
now Ozark, I just have a couple questons in regards to your story.
first: what did the jumper get hung up on on the underside of a cessna 182, I have jumped cessna's 182 and can'nt think of anything there to get hung up on.
second: you stated the jumper tried to get out of jumpsuit so he could try to remove his boot. well when you put your jumpsuit on, and any jumpsuit I have ever seen has been a one peice suit, you put it on before you put your rig on. so to take the jumpsuit off, or try to, you would have to remove your rig first. now I may be wrong here, but that sounds like a really stupid thing to do well hanging under a plane at 10000 ft. why not just use your hook knife and cut the pant leg, seems like a better and smarter thing to do.
third: you stated the jumper only had minor scrapes and bruise after landing. well if he is hanging under the plane, kinda flopping around a bit I would assume, when the plane landed and slowed down a fast as the pilot could slow the plane down, this jumper would have been dragged for quite some distance before the plane stopped. under a plane no less. I just can'nt see how he would walk away from this.
well it seems to me more of a story then anything else, but maybe you have the news paper artical or maybe a copy of USPA (united states parachute assocalation) or CSPA ( Canadian sports parachute assocalation) that might have an artical on this jump. I am assuming an incident report was filed. and maybe you could either e-mail me a copy of it or let me know what issue I could look it up in. I no longer receive monthly copy's but I do know people that still do.
If you do not know what issue it is in, then maybe the date this jumper got hung up under the plane. then I can try to find it my self as it would only be one or two issues I would have to check.
thanks alot
