Title: UN / US - Why send aid?
Post by: DipStick on January 28, 2006, 07:54:35 AM
Just goes to show you how stupid we Americans are.... This is how the vote goes in the United Nations:

Below are the actual voting records of various Arabic/Islamic States which are recorded in both the U.S. State Department and United Nations records:

Kuwait votes against the United States 67% of the time.
Qatar votes against the United States 67% of the time.
Morocco votes against the United States 70% of the time.
United Arab Emirates votes against the U. S. 70% of the time.
Jordan votes against the United States 71% of the time.
Tunisia votes against the United States 71% of the time.
Saudi Arabia votes against the United States 73% of the time.
Yemen votes against the United States 74% of the time.
Algeria votes against the United States 74% of the time.
Oman votes against the United States 74% of the time.
Sudan votes against the United States 75% of the time.
Pakistan votes against the United States 75% of the time.
Libya votes against the United States 76% of the time.
Egypt votes against the United States 79% of the time.
Lebanon votes against the United States 80% of the time.
India votes against the United States 81% of the time.
Syria votes against the United States 84% of the time.
Mauritania votes against the United States 87% of the time.

Some of the U.S. Foreign Aid to those that don't like us / vote against us:

Egypt, for example, after voting 79% of the time against the United States, still receives $2 billion annually in U.S. Foreign Aid.

Jordan votes 71% against the United States and receives $192,814,000 annually in U.S. Foreign Aid.

Pakistan votes 75% against the United States receives $6,721,000 annually in U.S. Foreign Aid.

India votes 81% against the United States receives $143,699,000 annually.

Perhaps it is time to get out of the UN and give the tax savings back to the American workers who are having to skimp and sacrifice to pay taxes and buy high dollar gasoline?!?!?

1. You aren't paying "high dollar gasoline?!?!?" You are paying low-dollar gasoline.

2. All those dollars you mentioned add up to about 25¢ per family per month. If you're concerned about taxes, there might be bigger fish to fry.

Are you not comparing apples and oranges? Voting patterns and aid. Where is the relationship? Countries vote for their own reasons sometimes domestic, sometimes for international reasons. Sometime they even vote against something because they actually disagree with it. The USA is not infallible.

The four countries you mention have strong connections to the US and are de facto allies. The fact they don't alway agree with the US government clearly isn't that much of a problem for the administration.  About 20 to 30% of the time they do agree.

I think the term most appropriate here is realpolitik. The USA obviously gains benefits from sending aid to these countries in many ways not so obvious to you and me. How they vote in the UN is clearly of less concern than their actual actions in support of the United States whether covertly or overtly.

Leaving the UN wouldn't help.

i usually send donations to my allies when im play 'Rome; total war'

it helps them stay afloat and keep on killing my enemies.

in the end though there is no one left to attack and we fight each other.

world peace is impossible.

war is infinite.

money and finances are just tokens that we invent a value for.

the world is stupid, and so are we all.

end of story.

Batfink,

I would not assume a game (Rome Total War) is a valid comparison the real world anymore than your avatar is a true representation of air combat in the real world.

I wouldn't assume that his grasp of reality from his psycho-drug induced haze to be comparable to a normal human beings grasp of reality either.

Bah, who cares? The UN is so weak if Hitler was to rise again, they wouldn't do anything but issue 'sanctions' which, behind the scenes, everyone would bypass anyway.

Hitler / Sadaam....

kinda close (Irealise the genocide numbers are not the same), only Sadaam was a putz who didn't know how to have and to kick arse with an army.

India has 144 million Muslim citizens, more than any other Muslim country except Indonesia. (201 million)  It's just that they have a hell of a lot more Hindus.
