Title: Pilots head looks where you look.
Post by: B@tfinkV on January 31, 2006, 03:15:56 PM
imagine flying rolling scissors with your opponent at 50 yrds and seeing the pilots faced turned up and looking at you.

imagine flying formation on your wing and you wingman turns to look at you.

imagine the guy in his chute looking at you as you fly by in victory.

imaginesee your friends looking the wrong way and then alerting them to the con on thier tail.

bad idea? alot of work?

I think IL2 does that?

In most cases, in AH, when you get close enough to see the pilot, it graphically disappears anyway.

Could be done so that the pilot's head would "look" at the closest plane to him whenever the plane had any deflection on the joystick towards that plane(i.e. the pilot is maneuvering). The pilot head would then return to forward view in autopilot or if maneuvering away.

why could it not be as simple as being directly related to the direction you look with your hat switch?

Because the FEs would have to transmit more data to the HT server and then the server would have to broadcast all that back to everyone?

what dedalos said.

Currently, the AH FE transmits limited info about your plane to the server and everyone else's FE.

1. Engine ON/OFF
2. Damage visuals - Fuel, Oil, Missing Parts
3. Flap Position
4. Gear Up/Down
5. Shooting

That's why we don't get to see control surface deflection on other planes, let alone seeing where the other pilot is looking.

I thought you could actually see control surfaces responding. I know flaps are displayed, but now I'm intrigued.

In theory, the code for reading/sending headposition could be a single value, and I'd tend to think that wouldn't be a huge burden considering this game doesn't even need a broadband connection.

Anyway, I like this idea. I wish the little pilot monkeys didn't disappear at such close range. No matter how cool the planes are, it's always going to look a little silly to see no people in them.

I think its good they disappear.  Can you imagine the trama caused to all the young players when they see your face?

Muahahahahaha

I think this a good idea:aok Though with the AH view system it would be wild sight seeing the pilot's head rolling around his neck without any natural limitation. Can you say exorcist? :lol

But seriously, it would be a good addition to visual realism. What is the idea of the disappearing pilot anyway?
The pilot head direction data wouldn't need more than five bits to get a decent representation of the direction where the pilot is looking. So it would be quite doable.

lol good point have, lets say that it doesnt show the movement of the head, left to right or up and down/forward, backwards etcetc.

just the direction the head is looking

Nice idea b@tfinkV: But I do not belive it is worth the band width.
