So I'm flying in the MA, single Spit V with me and another guy tangling with him. Spit is in a shallow climb on a course that has him passing across my guns (not quite 90-degrees of deflection but fairly close). I'm close enough I can be pretty sure of a hit, so I time the shot and squeeze the trigger.
At the EXACT same moment I fire, the Spit STOPS, and I mean he LITERALLY stops, and pulls into a full vertical climb--not jinks, or rolls, or dips, or pops up over my shot but LITERALLY shoots into a total vertical climb--RIGHT as my tracers pass through where he should've been.
I HATE Spitfires!

:lol
I feel with you!

I have seen 109s and 190s do the same.

It's a trick of the eyes related to angles and relative speeds.

This is not the spitfire you are looking for...
-
the spit pilot was obviously smart and was watching your tracers, he was waiting for you to fire before he started his maneuver, turn your tracers off and they'll have no clue when you firing until they get smacked

:noid evil spits.......

The point isn't that he DID maneuver, it's HOW he maneuvered. Why are tracers an option, anyway? I can't remember hearing any accounts of pilots IRL flying without them.
-
Kinda hate to say this, but, did you film it?
It is hard to comment on an event like this with only one biased viewpoint.

Hit the books some more... it did happen.
The amazing thing is when they did it in WWII the amount of kills rose dramtically, the same result within AH.

Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good Spitfire at your side...
-
did your screen freeze and then u noticed him go virt? thats a tech problem...if u were that close u should have aniticipated any move and been thinking of a counter if it was just manuevering probs
-
Nope, no hiccup, I could see the full motion of him pitching up (I HAVE had that happen, too).
-
I miss the good ole days when everyone flew spitVs... back in the day when everyone was not afraid to turn and fight... nowadays everything just runs from my 38
-
hmmm i think only few people discovered that the new Spit 8 is the new "old Spit 5". Spit 8 is comparable to that to Ki-84 and more gentle than Ki-84 in slow fights. spitty 8 can even keep up with ki-84/38 in vertical and turns by extending its brake flaps. (riddiculous lol)
-
Don't worry, Raptor, I won't run from your 38.
-
hehe raptor i belive i shot down your 38 in my 109F in a turn fight with you hehe and as i remeber that ammo makers choose how many bullets are tracers like in guns nowadays some have like 1 out of every 5 shots is a tracer so I am sure tey did that in WW2 for most likely the tracer is to help where he shots are going otherwise I don't belive it does anything else.
plz clarify if anything is wrong.

"spitty 8 can even keep up with ki-84/38 in vertical and turns by extending its brake flaps."
Theres not a spit in this game that can keep up with a 38 in the vertical if the pilot of the 38 knows how to fly his plane... Murdr and I had this discussion before and he actually tested this and made a film I believe in our 479th film library where he smokes 2 spits an 8 and a 16 if I remember correctly using the verticle to his advantage... Turn wise the spit 5, and 8 will out turn a 38, the 16 usually looses as it gets slower the 16 sucks... But thats how I get the majority of my spit kills in a 38, I just take em in the vert, and there generally ded by the 2nd loop

Gabresky never used tracers, because he thought they could warn his enemies. I'm sure other pilots used that tactic, just like many people do here in AH.
EDIT: sorry, Delirium, I didn't see your post! :p
