Which explains why it costs so much. They probably have to import everything from food to furniture. Also, house building would be very expensive, as would office buildings etc.
My guess anyway.
-
Yea but they have free energy Curval. Which should be a major plus (especially in cold climate).

I went to Copenhagen in December and everything was seriously expensive. I was paying roughly £4.50 (€6.70 or $8.03) for a pint of beer! Needless to say it didn't stop me drinking :lol

Alcohol gets more expensive the further north you go. With all those long dark winter nights. People there tend to get depressed and drink themselves to death. When I visited Reykjavik I found out that people would drink at home before going out to the pubs. I had an ordinary enough meal in a hotel. No starter, no dessert and the cheapest wine we could get. It cost the two of us about 100 Euro.
I was there with a bunch of Irish. I've never seen so many Irish stay sober so much.
The only natural resources they have are volcanic rock and fish. An Icelandic joke: What do you do if you get lost in an Icelandic forest? Stand up!

****. And I thought Moscow was bad.

The question begs, why is Oslo so expensive? Socialism?

High average income.

actually, moscow is on some lists. And some cities are too small to be counted. I lived in one of those 'too small to be counted' places for the last 15 months -- well except for the time I spent in #6. Now I'm halfwaz between #s 8 and 9, and no, they ain't backing up the brinks trucks into my bank account.
-
I don't care what my income is so much as how much of it I am allowed to keep and how much things cost when I have to buy em.

I need a bomb shelter... I agree with lazs, the end of the world is near.

It's the same everywhere.. it's not how much you make, but how much you keep. Here in NY, they don't let you keep much.

Perhaps it's because the list is strange?
This is the ranking for 2005 from the source most used by companies to set cost of living allowances:
1 Tokyo, Japan
2 Osaka, Japan
3 London, United Kingdom
4 Moscow, Russia
5 Seoul, South Korea
6 Geneva, Switzerland
7 Zurich, Switzerland
8 Copenhagen, Denmark
9 Hong Kong, Hong Kong
10 Oslo, Norway
