Doctors:
(A) The number of physicians in the U.S. is
700,000.
(B) Accidental deaths caused by Physicians
per year are
120,000.
(C) Accidental deaths per physician
is
0.171
Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept of
Health Human Services.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Now think about this:
Guns:
(A) The number of gun owners in the U.S. is:
80,000,000.
(Yes, that's 80 million..)
(B) The number of accidental gun deaths per year,
all age groups, is:
1,500.
(C) The number of accidental deaths per gun owner
is
.000188
Statistics courtesy of FBI
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>;>>>>>>>>>>>>>
So, statistically, doctors are approximately
9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.
Remember, "Guns don't kill people, doctors do."
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
FACT: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN,
BUT
ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE DOCTOR.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Please alert your friends
to this
alarming threat.
We must ban doctors
before this gets completely out of hand!!!!!
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Out of concern for the public at large,
I have withheld the statistics on
lawyers
for fear the shock would cause
people to panic and seek medical attention

Nope. Not close at all.

100,000 per year? I don't think so. Not even close.
Only goes to show why I'd rather be on the shooting range, than in a hospital. Those places are dangerous, man....

I don't know who the original source is but this from the BBC website:
GUN-RELATED DEATHS 2002
(http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/40016000/jpg/_40016415_gun66.jpg)
UK: 81
Canada: 816
US: 30,242
Figures do not distinguish between crime-related and accidental or self-inflicted deaths
-
This brings up an important question: How many people in the U.S. are shot (with a gun) by their doctor?!
-
How many did Dr. Harold Shipman kill in the UK?
-
edit: nevermind

Surrender monkey!!

replicant I believe that you are counting suicides too? There were only about 9,000 homicides including justified ones in the U.S. If you include suicides in violent deaths then the rate of violent human infliocted death is about the same in America as it is in england and other countries....
Or have it another way... If you are saying that none of these homicides or suicides would happen with draconian british tyranny inspired gun laws then...
the murders and suicides minus those related to guns (wouldn't have any right?) in the U.S. would make us the meekest country on the planet with a combined homicide and suicide rate far below even japan say.
You can't have it both ways... if the guns here are the only reason people murder or suicide and taking away the guns would get rid of those numbers then... we would be far less suicidal and murderous than your country...
Soo..... we can't help it... the guns make us do it but you.... well.... you have no guns sooo.... you must simply be barbarians.

I'm not saying anything, I'm just providing a link to what the BBC published a few weeks ago. As stated before I don't know the original source.
However, if the information is correct it still states the amount of gun related deaths. It's irrelevent comparing it to anything else because the subject of this thread is 'guns related', not other means of death but I see where you're coming from. If anything it just highlights the ease of death relating to a gun (rather than the person accidently killed himself with a knife and fork).

So in a nutshell:
Europeans when discussing American gun control laws: "Guns are deadly weapons, and there's more violent crime in American because of your laws."
Americans when discussing American gun laws: "Guns allow people to defend themselves from criminals, making society safer."
And the Gun Control Circle Jerk continues...
-
these are the real numbers and rates by the FBI for murder and all crime..
http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/03cius.htm
Go to table one volume and rate (for all crimes) our crime has been steadily going down per capita as we increase gun ownership... now... england and other tyrannies rates have, of course, been going up.
The apologists for the tyrants will of course come up with a myriad of excuses as to why this is so but...

replicant... why even show it then if not to make the point that guns are to blame?
http://www.uni-wuerzburg.de/IASR/suicide-table1.htm
shows suicide rates in all countries. the U.S. is about 23 per 100k canada australia and new zealand are all over 26. the UK is about 15 don't even look at gun free japan (37) guns seem to have little or nothing to do with suicide rate or homicide rate for that matter.
If you are even interested their is a very good book on the subject called "The samaui the mountie and the cowboy" by Kopel that explains gun control laws and their effects in a lot of different countries and which are good ones and which would not work.
The book is a little dated being written in '96 but... that makes it even better as later data proves him not only right but prophetic.
course I know that you don't want the facts or any facts that would make you think but.... there it is... can't blame me for trying to help.

I don't really know. I currently live in Germany and private gun ownership is allowed and the Police are armed and it seems very safe to me. Where I live in Bavaria is the safest place I've ever been to or lived (though the county where I lived in the UK there were only 2 murders in the last 20 years).

I can't get the PDF file to display at the moment so I'll have a look over the weekend. Off out now to get very drunk (which alcohol is probably responsible for even more deaths) :D
-
here.... 80% of all homicides involve alcohol.

Leading experts feel that violent video games, and the glorification of violence by television, music and movie industries as a leading cause of the increase in gun related violence.
The guns have always been here in the U.S.. People never even kept them locked up years ago, they displayed them on the wall. So what changed. According to Lt. Col D. Grossman who has written several books on the subject, its simple conditioning. We have conditioned our children to kill via the media.
The media glorifies violence ... and if you watch any of shows or commercials for teens...who is the smartest person on the show?
The kids are... the parents are portrayed as stupid, out of touch and inept. We are conditioning them to believe that they should not listen to their elders.
This leads to the Super Preadator theory. That the lack of adult influence will lead the juveniles to develop there own standards of moral conduct.
Kinda like the "No snitching" t-shirts, girls gone wild and the Gang banger mentality.
The future should be interesting....
