the fact that the planes do not have rear view mirrors drive me nuts. The real ones did, why not these? Oh and it would help if they were functional too! ;)
-
just look back no mirror needed
-
Would like to see these additions added as well.
:aok

Well actually you cant look back very well in most airplanes.... not without doing the up and down thing... which I cant say I care for. It is much easier if you can cpncentrate on what is infront of you while just looking at the top or the windscreen and seeing if anyone is on yer six. We had em in AW, and that is one of the first things I notices about this game!

the wonder if the number 2 key on the keypad set the view to the way you like then hit f10 prob solved

ZENMS. Do you know about the "Save Head Posistion" If so...i can send you me Head Posistion files and you will be set. If Not...then simply email me..We will get you setup.:aok

Even adjusting head position doesn't help for all fighters, and you're still at the mercy of the canopy frame. Also, mirrors were often placed in locations where you CAN'T move your head in the game (eg, on top of the canopy frame as in some Spits and Mustangs, or in a "Malcolm Hood" type canopy bulge as in some F4U-1s).

Maybe rear view mirrors will be a possible upgrade or Combat Tour?
-
That's probably up to us.
Some people howl at the very thought of graphics enhancement since their older systems cannot handle it... and the rear-view mirror, though small, is one hefty resource hog.
Perhaps when HT thinks that the average level of AH gamers' machine specs have been significantly upgraded.. then they'll put in mirrors and stuff..

AW was a very flat game, that did not use 3D. [EDIT: SUPERBOLE ALERT] It was almost as bad as Wing Commander (the original). Okay, so at any given state it's only got a small number of things that would show in a mirror.
AH2 is a fully 3D rendered game engine, that has enough fps-killers just looking forward. Using mirrors for any given things means they have to render not only what's in front of you at all times, but what's BEHIND you at all times.
Mirrors = BAD for 3D! Trust me on this.

i'd prefer they make all the other eye candy possible before mirrors personally.

They have mirrors on the aircraft in the Wings over Vietnam sim - I have a midrange machine and I didn't have a problem with it eating into the graphics to the point where it was impossible to fly.
Think you are going a little overboard there Krusty.

"Think you are going a little overboard there Krusty."
No he's not. It's been spelled out in detail several times by HiTech as to why rear view mirrors would wreck even a hi-po systems performance.
AW had it cause it used a very old graphics engine and the rear view mirror was a 2D overlay. MMPOG games such as WB3, AH and WWIIO do not have them because of the massive performance hit it would cost because there is nothing 2D about them.
Off line box games can feature them because, in comparison to what MMPOG sofware like AH is required to do, there's very little the box game software has to perform.

We flew Wings over Vietnam Online, with 10+players (granted not as much as AH) but still had no problems.
Possibly with AH numbers it would be a problem. Didn't think of it in those paramaters.

Personally I was very suppriced that the new reworked planes didnt have rearview mirrors.
What Id like to see is mirrors as a toggleable feature that you can turn off if you have a low end system.
But for high end systems this is something Id really really like to see.
The head views dont always help. On planes like the spit the rearview mirror allows you to see an angle that you will never see with any head adjustment. Plus that it allows you to track your six while aiming, which you cant if you look back.

In AW, at least up to AWIII, the rear view mirror was NOT active in the forward view. When you toggled the rear view it changed to a close-up of the mirror. Maybe something similar to that, a special "mirror" view? (even with a rear-view mirror in the cockpit, the pilot STILL had to look up from what he was doing).
