In the MA it doesnt matter a fig - but the silly tail bounce problem in the Il2 has caused a bucket load of angst for us in Squad Ops. With an eastern front scenario due in weeks it could be a real bummer if not fixed.
I am talking about the Il2's overly sprung tail wheel which catapults you onto your nose if you taxy slowly over the grass. I kind of suspect that Il2's would have a short and boring war if they weren't able to use rough airfields. The Comrade Generalissimo would have had the designers shot.
Please put a fix in for this one. It's funny in the MA. Sucks big ones in a serious scenario.

IL2 will tail bounce on the runways too. Not enough to flip you, but you will lose the prop.
-
did you try landing slower when I fly the IL2 I just let it stall while landing
-
I have toe brakes and I can control the amount of braking applied to prevent a nose-over on either grass or a firm runway.
However, I'd imagine someone using the spacebar it would be close to impossible with the 'on/off' control.
-
Delirium, can you taxi an IL2 over the grass? particularly to get on and off a rearm pad. i sure can't.
have given up trying to use the rearm pads on most airfields when in an IL2. imho they seem to handle taxing(the bounce from tail wheel) over grass much worse than any other plane.
-
The problem isn't just while taxi-ing. Anytime the tail touches the ground with any force, it will start a small bounce. When you stop, the bounce magnifies and within a couple hops will catch the prop. It doesn't matter if you brake or not.
-
I hate this one also....they "kind of" fixed it a few patches ago. But all they said was that the IL2 is less prone to prop strike.
-
Um.. its bulletproof.. heavily armed and armored.. it can outurn a spitfire and force the HO on any plane in the main arena.. its 2nd only to the 110 in pure destruction on the HO.
Its already WAY overmodeled what more do you want? An autolanding switch?
-
Bad bad bad troll Bomberjockey. Unless you have a different Il2 then myself, an M16 will pop my engine in 5 pings. The fact that you say it's way overmodelled, aside from being sarcastic, I can't see anything truthful to that statement. You have clearly never flown an Il2 and experienced the tail hop, just wait your turn.
-
CC nirvana....can't wait till the skuzz-meister lets the dogs out on this jr troll.
Even using the "toe" brakes (c & v) can still get the tail to dance.

How am i trolling by pointing out the obvious?? The IL2 is used in base defense situations nearly everytime you assault a base... even when the fighter hangars are up... the IL2 that saw combat during WWII was not nearly as tough a bird as it is in this simulator.. most of them where shot down by early model 109's... Galland on several occasions shot 4 to 6 down in one engaugment... take the earliest model bf109 we have in this game and challenge an IL2 to a battle... you will get slaughtered like a lamb. The plane can outturn almost anything in the MA and take tremendious amounts of damage... 9 times of out 10 they force the HO pass on you and its over...
Ive seen good players take up IL2's on base defense before other fighters because of this fact.
-
Because it's not bloody bullet proof, it's not heavily armoured, besides the fact that it can take 2 37MM shots, and you should learn how to avoid HO when you fight the Il2, it's really not that hard. Frickin C47 could out run that pig.
-
Very few planes in the MA can take a 37mm shots...
Its superior armor is very evident thank you for pointing that out.. Maybe a perk value would be in order say 10-15?

Galland shot down 4-6 Il2 in one engagement? Wow.. I never knew that Lend-Lease worked in both ways. How many Soviet planes were in British service in WW? :D
The Sturmovik was a tough target. This is well documented by countles reports of german pilots. That does not mean that a expert fighter ace canīt shoot down multiple Il2īs in one sortie. They went in close and fired at the weak spots. Same is true in here. If you donīt shoot well, you can spray your hole ammo into or better: into the direction of an Il2. If you fight on your terms, the Il2 is a victim. You will only get "slaughtered" if you are foolish enough to fly into its cannons. Either by HOing or if you indeed try to flat turn in your D9 or K4 with that plane. If you donīt use superior power, speed, climbrate and maneuverability, itīs all your fault...

Just a note here oh great historian adolf galland was one of germanys top scoring aces during WWII... most of his early war kills where against soviet IL2's and early model migs.

:rofl
I am not completely sure if you believe yourself in what you say, or if you just haveing some weird fun in trying to get people upset ;)
But after you called me a great historian, may i give you a little lecture on Herrn Galland:
Adolf Galland never flew on eastern front. He took part in the Polish campaign, flying ground attack missions in Hs 123 8No Il2īs there). He was then transferred to JG 27 in 1940 and fougth in France, then as a Gruppenkommandeur in Jg 23 and JG 26 in the Battle of Britain. By the end of the year he was commanding JG 26, which was staying in France even after the bulk of the Luftwaffe was transferred to the east in 1941. He continued to fight against the RAF until November 41. then he was made General der Jagdflieger and ceased to fly regular combat sorties until 1945.
ALL of his kills were western allied planes. And NO Migs or Ilīs.

Study further than the http://www.highschoolknowledgerulz.com resource your using limits you too I think you will find that galland did indeed down several IL2's during the course of his tour as a pilot in the luftwaffe.

Well.. i gave some facts, you just idle conversation. But i would be very grateful if you could give me some details, for example units or dates or possibly some sources for your knowledge...
-
You can lead a horse... oh nevermind.. just look it up.. most luftwaffe aces have undocumented kills in their records that typically took place in training operations or wandering tours... IE hartmann and barkhorn who both had kills all over the fronts of the wars... I think you will find if you research a little further that this is the case.

Again, you give no facts. And now you want me to prove your assumptions?
And we are not talking about Hartman & Barkhorn, but Galland. And a few statements ago you said repeatedly that most of his kills "most of his early war kills where against soviet IL2's".
Now you reduce it to a few "undocumented kills (...) in training operations or wandering tours". And even this is not true in Gallands case. Or is the information I gave here about Gallands career, his units and such wrong? If my facts are wrong, please tell me which ones!

Don't feed the troll

(for those too lazy to click. zero IL2 kills, he fought on the western front, and it does provide sources. even his undocumentd kills were while on the western front. He never went up against the Russians.)

Gents, this is a BUG reporting forum...

I stand corrected.
