Title: Zeke
Post by: easymo on December 30, 2001, 05:40:00 PM
I have only seen two things modeled into AH fighters that make me think. Bull toejam.  You guys know a lot more about these planes than I do. So maybe I am wrong.

One thing that just don't seem right, is the zeke's ability to keep going after it is hit.  I have gotten as many as 5 kills AFTER my zeke was set on fire.   From what little I know about it, the zeke was a fragile plane. No self sealing tanks.  And indeed, it is not hard to set fire too one in AH.  But it does not seem to matter much. It just keeps going.  Is there something about this plane that I am missing?

Well, the A6M5b does have a stronger structure and thicker skin than the Zero most people think of.  It has pilot armor too.

The A6M5c had self sealing tanks.

That makes more sense, in a way. But then why all the fires. Normally you see a plane on fire you are done. With zeke, not so.

We've been hearing the same crap about the Zeke being "armoured" and having self sealing fuel tanks.  Makes no difference, the bastard flies longer with major damage than any other plane I have seen in AH.  Back when I was with the 56th FG, me and Thunder upped from A22 in the ND Isles terrain to defend it.  We both chose Zekes.  Know why?  Cause barring a pilot kill, we knew that plane would keep going with damage longer than any other one in the inventory.  Sure enough, Thunder took a hit that should have put him down, and would have in any other bird.  As it was, he and I flew around killing the attackers, him with flames and smoke streaming from his plane.  I believe he got 4 more kills before the fuel ran out and he landed.
Armored or not, the RL A6M, no matter what model, -2,-3, -5....were prone to catching fire and generally known as just plain fragile in nature.  As it is, they will take more damage and keep going, unlike the planes that had reps as being "rocks"....F6F, F4U, P-47, 190, etc.

when zeke is on fire it should blow up just like any other fighter does when its on fire. lancs, b17's, p38's.. they catch fire on an engine and they blow up.

a zeke can spew flames and smoke.. and keep fighting.

the fighting fireball, a6m5!

Sooner or later, a Zeke on fire explodes.  It's just a matter of waiting it out until he does.

I love Zekes.  Some of the easiest kills in the game, and they always want to fight my kind of fight.   :)

Heh I still remeber a fight when F4u "Challenged" me in a dogfight. After I shot him down I asked why the heck did he did that... Answer was "I don't like to run".

who ever that was <S>

And happy new year to you all!
