Title: Bomb scope calibration
Post by: Fastfive on February 07, 2006, 02:12:06 PM
I am having trouble calibrateing the bomb sope in the B17.  I tried to do it throught the use of the help file, but i cant keep my plane still.

"Try to keep the cross hair on the same exact spot when the Y key is pressed and released."

That is what the help file says. But when i push forward on my joystick the plane wants to dive.  Anybody have anysuggestions??

Hi hammer.

I saw this post a while ago and, after looking at netaces tutorial I thought "Well, time to try some bombing"... I never flew bombers too much, nor I used the calibration system, so I went offline and made some test.

The matter is, the calibrating system is not the one you describe in your tutorial, but the old one, with the joystick.... how could it be?

change your settings gian

basically, the old one is still there, but in the MA it's been turned into easy mode hold y for 2 secs lol

IMO they should change it back to the old way. we wont get as many dweebs bombing fighter hangars, but the skill level of the MA will improve dramatically

The old calibration method indeed required some skill. A few dedicated buff drivers were able to get very good hit % from up to 20k. There was a difference between a good buff pilot who could defend his plane, steady it in time, calibrate accurately and drop and cluless ones who would never hit the target. The rest of the "hop into a buff and pork the field" types just gave up on calibration and turned into massive dive bombers.

At least this way they try to level bomb.

Bombing in MA today is ......
after doors open O

1)Level flight auto pilot  X ...alt change u gosta calibrate again.
2)constant speed...if speed changes u have to calibrate again.
3)go F6...bomb site.
4) press U ..enters calibration mode.
5)Hold  Y down for min of 2 secs but 10 to 15 secs best...calibrating.
6)press U again to exit / confirm calibration.
7) Look top left in scope all should be GREEN
8) slow movement of cross hair to target.  Wild movements knocks out calitration.
9)release bomb/s when cross hair is on target
10) close doors an bugger off home or rinse and repeat.

Off topic but, I think the new method was to promote level bombing vs dive bombing or to incourage level bombing anyway. Fastfive- I'm glad you are willing to learn the fine art of level bombing but I wish it would return to the high art it once was. I am proficient at all three but prefer the added risk of not being on the money under duress. Made success sweeter  :D
