Was the "safest" bet I had to choose from today. All the rest were soccer games and I _really_don't like soccer..
-
Don't get me started on the Maple Leafs.
I've been a huge fan of hockey all my life, but the leafs have been a source of disapointment. However, if you bet money on them, it will be exciting because you can never anticipate a win or loss.
I'll keep an eye on the game tonight. Hope for your sake they win.
btw, the team I like is Ottawa...great talent...beautiful stick handling, crisp passing and speed.
If you haven't seen this new kid playing for Penguins try and catch him the next time they play...Sidney Crosby! I have only seen him once and was very impressed.

Yea we beat them.
Id take Toronto over Atlanta.
Crosby is over rated. Ovechkin is far better.

When I was a kid my fav teams were Toronto and Oilers. Still have jackets and caps from both teams that I imported via contacts back in the early 90's
-edit- and Montreal

The Maple Greifs will finish out of the playoffs. :)

I think Leafs have to spend some big money to get top young talent. The Leaf games are always sold out and most of those tickets are held by season ticket holders...so the owners don't get any big return on investing big money in some top talent. Too bad; there's nothing more intense than the excitement of a great hockey game.
(I expect they will win tonight)
How much is your bet for Nils?

Buffalo's biggest rival is the Leafs. I buy tickets all the time when they come here. More fights in audience then in game. Canadians come down here, get drunk, and make fools of themselves when we kick their arse in their own spot.

NHL Players Protest New Goaltending Penalty
January 26, 2006
NEW YORK—Less than six months since players returned from a yearlong lockout, hockey is once again in turmoil following last week's announcement that "goaltending," or attempting to obstruct a shot on goal or impede the puck's progress with one's body or stick, would become a two-minute minor penalty, a rule change that went into effect Monday. "Increasing scoring with rule changes and cracking down on obstruction is one thing," said Phoenix Coyotes goaltender Curtis Joseph, who claims his job is being banned by the league. "But to take a page from the NBA and just outlaw goaltending outright… Maybe it's just me, but I think that rule just plain goes against the spirit of hockey." Veteran NHL centers, forwards, and some defensemen took issue with Joseph's remarks, claiming he was still angry over being penalized seven times in the Coyotes' Monday night game against Dallas, in which Joseph had zero saves and lost 88-105.

What hockey do you watch? And I just watched Vanek from the Sabres block a shot with no penalty.

been there...done that :lol

That's a pretty safe bet... Toronto's 3-0 against Atlanta this year, outscoring them 18-2. Atlanta's been terrible lately, and Toronto's coming off a streak of being terrible, although they've played reasonably well the last 5 games. It'll be a very physical game, no doubt instigated by the Thrashers... a team full of cheap shot artists.

Never happened, never will.
And fights in the crowd in Leafs @ Buffalo games? Uhh no. I've been to somewhere around 8-10 Leaf games in Buffalo, and I've only seen one fight. And that was because some scrawny guy spilled his beer on a huge fat guy in a Leafs jersey. Scrawny guy got hurt. I've also been to 2 Leaf playoff games in Philly, one of the most hostile buildings in the league (you should hear some of the sht the idiots in the crowd yell; they don't know jack about hockey, but they sure are vocal), wearing my Leaf jersey with "FLYERS SUCK" on the back, and nothing happened to me.

The money I made on this game will be devided between two of the games below and the money i put in yesterday goes back in the bank so nothing will be lost.
Here are my candidates:
Buffalo - Montreal
Nashville - Detroit
Boston - New Jersey
Minnesota - Colorado
Ottawa - Atlanta
So far I see Ottawa - Atlanta as the safest bet and I think I'll go for it. Any objections?
The second bet will be decided by the o'club, and if the game you choose goes thru this thread goes on until I have lost all my winnings. May be a short thread :D

wetrat, I only shell out the big bucks for the big games, such as Ottawa.

They must recruit the players directly from the fanbase. Thats all the players are good for as well, running their mouths.
They certainly cant play hockey.
-
I would give an edge to Detroit over Nashville *red wings at home
Buffalo over Montreal
slight edge New Jersey over Boston
Colorado over Minnesota
clear win Ottawa over Atlanta
Your thoughts?
-
Its all about them Buffalo Sabers.
Ive watched this team even when they were bad. I was disappointed when they got rid of Alexei Zhitnik and Miroslav Satan. Satan was my favorite player to watch but now Buffalo got Drury and hes just as good. Sabres also got a great goalie duo and good scoring players. Only part that looks week is their defense as they dont have many good D players.
Sabers all the way.
Just to panzzer betting on Canada. Didnt the US team beat Canada last winter olympics or is that the one before Im thinking of?

Nilsen, I'd give the Sabres a 80% chance of beating the Canadians tomorrow night. Took them in overtiie last night away. In our own arena and knowing their weaknesses I think we will have it. If you watch the game you'll be sure to hear the crowd chanting U.S.A. whenever Miller makes a save.
Hoarach,
Woot!!!!! Im not alone in the O'Club. Satan was one of my favorites also. Now Ive moved on to Afiniganov, absolute amazing stick handling. As for defense, we 're not that badoff. Believe we are in top 5 for killing power plays. Also, Jay Mckee and Griere do their share of good D. Not the best in the NHL, but enough for the time being. Their was a locla tv rumor that Biron was going to be traded for Mark Reechi. Imagine putting him on a line with Afiniganov. Only major thing I see the Sabres missing is a player(s) that can get shot on net with the break away one timers and off the rebounds. Seems that the team is plagued with wide and fanned on shots.

Depends on who is starting. If it's Theo, then I would take Buffalo in a second.
But with Huet....
Last game Buffalo won on penalties, and almost lost on one as well. It was a damn close game. I would give Buffalo the edge, but not by much. Besides, the Habs are fighting for thier play off lives here. Buffalo is only fighting for division lead.

That is true. If he Canadians dont change their disipline from last night to tomorrow the game will be in the game. Last I knew Buffalo was 3rd in League for Power Play goals.
Nilsen, in March Buffalo plays Boston 5 times. As long as we dont get any major injuries (knock on wood) we should beable to beat them each time.

Great :)
Now I have 2 games down:
Ottawa beats Atlanta ... my choise too
Buffalo takes Montreal ... I'll take you up on that tip
Lets throw these 2 games into the mix
Phoenix - Dallas
Tampa Bay - Carolina
Oh.. any clear candidates among them all for a draw?
-
Carolina and Dallas.:aok

Made the bets
Split my previous winnings between these three
Buffalo beats Montreal
Ottawa takes Atlanta
Dallas takes his SUV over to Phoenix and kicks his ass.
If 2 of them goes thru im happy :)
-
Good picks.:aok
-
hehe lets wait until tonight before arriving at any final conclusion on that BlueJ :D
On paper it looks like a 50/50 chanse of atleast two of them going well and thats good enough for me.
Chanse of all 3 going well is slim, but its there.

I've been a hockey fan/player and even some coaching latly. Love the NHL glad its back.
As for the Leafs vs Thrashers....Who is the goalie for Atlanta? Leafs got Belfore, stick with him....Leafs win!

looks good Nils, I expect 3 wins for you...as long as penalties don't impact the dallas/phoenix game...phoenix slightly better pp/pk, plus they are at home for this?
Good luck!

Its Stars at Coyotes.

Results are in after ive gone to bed so I'll see the damage first thing in the morning :)

Buffalo Sabres Daniel Briere wont be back until after Oylimpic hockey break.
Heres a scheduale of Oylimpic Hockey games Go USA!! (http://www.usahockey.com/international/main_site/main/home/06oly_sked_m/)
-
Still irks me why miller isnt going. One of the hottest goalies up to that point. Now why is briere not going to be back, I know Drury is going to the US hockey team but what about Briere.
Dont know about biron as he is a good backup for miller or cases start. There both good goalies giving Buffalo one of the best goalie duos. But also getting mark rechhi for biron wouldnt be a bad trade but Biron has done a lot for the Sabers so it would be a hard decision.
-
Briere is gona stay out because he and the club dont want to push his injury to soon. Rather let him sit out the next few games which we can win without him. Then bring him back after Oylimpic games. Gives him a extra few weeks of rest.
Im peeved about Miller not playing in the Oylimpics. But supposedly hes now the 4th string goalie for the team. So if one of the origanl 3 gets hurt Miller will take their spot. Believe the term is taxi. Anyways, I figure if he does move up he will take over as starting goalie.

Sabres lose 3-2 in OT. One of the worse games Ive seen them play. Slow and lousy passing. Looked like one of our old seasons.

and Detroit scores 2 in the 2nd period to tie the game 2-2

Cripes, who would of thought that Bonk would score at all, let alone short handed.

Oh well.. one of games went my way so there is still money in the chest. :)
but still.... :cry

Ehhh Sabers still high in the standings.

Nipping at the heels of Ottawa.
-
BlueJ have you been up here to the ACC yet?
-
If I knew what ACC stood for I could tell you. Most likey no. Ive only been over the border a handful of times. Toronto twice.
-
air canada center, where the games are now
I haven't been in it yet either
-
No I have not. I did eat at the Hard Rock Cafe in the stadium the Blue Jays play in tho. Was very impressive compared to the Ralph Wilson the Bbills play in.
-
Im buying tickets to a Sabres vs. Toronto game on March 16th. Its a Sabres home game. They are retiring Pat LaFontaine's number. I grew up watching him play and get concussions. Also watching Barnaby get rubies put into his two front teeth in the shape of a B, only to see the refs picking them up off the ice in the first game he played with them in.
