[Danish] A newspaper headline this week blamed President Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair  for not supporting Denmark through the ordeal. And nearly 80% of Danes believe a terrorist attack looms.

"A lot of Danes have problems understanding what is going on and why people in those countries reacted this way," said Morton Rixen, a philosophy student, looking out his window at a city awhirl in angst and snow. "We're used to seeing American flags and pictures of George Bush being burned, but we've always seen ourselves as a more tolerant nation. We're in shock to now be in the center of this."

"Racism is suddenly popping up in this country," said Merete Ronnow, a nurse who worked in Danish relief efforts in Lebanon and Afghanistan. "I'm stunned by this. It's like now Danes can express exactly what they feel. My colleagues are saying, 'Look, this is how a Muslim acts. This is what a Muslim does.

How can it be racism? Muslim isn't a race, it's a religion...

...right?

I think I captured it just fine; some Danes blame Bush, Blair because we didn't come running to the aid of the fools at the newspapers. (To the editors use your head, the Muslim are pissed off at everything)

Danes have grown accustomed to seeing the US blamed for all the worlds ills, in the form of flags/effigies burning and through their arrogance as expressed, “"We're used to seeing American flags and pictures of George Bush being burned, but we've always seen ourselves as a more tolerant nation. We're in shock to now be in the center of this."

Now find themselves faced with their own questions of racism.

the danes should print more cartoons and also put up effigies of mohommid frolicking.  that should solve the problem.

I'm sure many will discredit the writer and blow by without even reading it, but I think Jonah Goldberg has it about right in this piece:

Enough with the cartoons. It's not about cartoons....

...It seems obvious, to me at least, that this is clang and clatter that comes with a clash of civilizations. Last year the (false) Newsweek story that American interrogators were flushing Korans down the toilet caused lethal riots in Afghanistan. In Paris, Muslims riot or threaten to riot about everything from schoolgirls without headscarves to the lack of halal Brie. Around the world, Muslims suffer from a mixture of legitimate grievances and an enormous inferiority complex. Muslim, and particularly Arab, governments have a vested interest in stirring up this sort of thing because it distracts from their own corrupt regimes. And the Muslim "street" seems to fall for it every time.....

I love how Muslim people get pissed when other countries poke fun at Mohammed.

...I hate double standards.

If we had access to image files of all the anti judeism cartoons published in papers from the middle east we could make the longest AH thread evar.

I'm sure Malkin has received threats because she linked the end-of-the-muslim-world cartoons.

Islam is Peace.

(On their terms.)

Finally finally, some people, this time it's the Danes, are getting it into their heads the harsh reality of the situation. We are all the enemies of this form of Islam. Our freedoms are a threat to their repression.  Even moderate Muslims and in particular shia muslims are enemies to these people.

It was not and it never was just about the USA or Britain as far to many smug people in Europe and elsewhere seem to think.

The Danes are now public enemy number one to Islamic extremists. When is the last time a mob burned down an American or British embassy? The must be really angry at those Danes.

Isn't the whole situation surreal?  :O

we are all enemies of islam irrespective of which iteration is viewed.  for you that question the bible as authentic, it was foretold 5000 years ago.  this situation surprises only those that choose to be surprised.
