...Otherwise you might not be able to run any new Game software in the near future.

Halo 2 gamers face Vista upgrade (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/4698072.stm)
-
Yes and Flight simulatorX is being optimised for Windows Vista when it finally comes out.
-
I plan on upgrading to Vista for the 64-bit support. Nuts to Halo2.
-
I don't like Vista... I'll only install it on my computer when all of its bad features have been cracked out.
-
It will be a sad day in history when Vista is released. Not looking forward to it at all, for many reasons.
-
What are some of the 'other' bad reasons?

win98 was TERRRRRRIBLE lol  I'm just gonna buy a powerbook, or some other sort of mac, before I go back to school in Sept... I hate windows with a passion. This will be my gaming/porn-movie-music downloading machine :t

Let me guess, you simply wont leave Windows Me? :D
-
SKuzzy has mentioned numerous times that Windows Vista will be loaded with all sorts of DRM (digital rights management) stuff.
-
Wait, I don't get it. Are they re-releasing halo 2 with support for only windows vista?
Or some kind of mandatory patch you have to download?
Well, it helps if you read the article. :) Still doesn't make sense though. I rarely if ever play halo 2, and its on the xbox anyway.

Plenty of old games. No one has come up with a new game in years anyway. The only thing "new" is the eye candy.
Eye candy tends to lose its luster fairly quickly IMHO.

I stayed with Win98 until 2003 or so... I can ride XP for awhile.

Just say no to Windows Vista.

By the time I'll be forced to upgrade to Vista, OpenBirds (http://openbirds.sourceforge.net/) will be released, and I've no reason to stick with Windooze.:)

Doubt it will be any good, but since its available for mac ill try it at some stage. The developers will prolly be fed up and quit before its even close to beeing as good as the "commercial alternatives"
I wish them good luck tho. :)
-
I'm still running 98SE with no problems whatsoever.
Yes I have a copy of Xp around, in case I ever go stone fricking crazy and want to install it. Building a new machine this month, heck I may even do a dual boot just for kicks. But I bet if I do I'll still spend 98% of my time in good ol 98.
If you build it right in the first place, then load drivers right it will be solid as a rock. If you screw it up, take shortcuts, or mix & match things that shouldn't mix and match. Then yes it can be a real sob.
Instead of the computer telling me what it can (and will) do I tell my computer what it WILL (and won't) do.
Its a control issue.

Interesting, but I agree with Nilsen, a project of that size and scope would be diffcult for open source.

Do you believe that Aces High will shift to nothing but the Vista platform?

I give the project the same odds as to the Chairboys Cozy. It won't be as massive as AH, but it will have planes and a theater that are of interest to us Finns(in the first phase). AFAIK it allready has a working flight model, but much of the visual stuff is to be made. It's going forward slowly but steadily. The guys making it are long time well known flight sim veterans here, and they know what they are doing. Also I don't think they'll be fed up because the whole community is supporting them. I think it'll take a few years before it's a playable MMOG though.

Meatwad,
:rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :aok

As soon as the lead developers pushing this project move off to different things or lose interest developement for it will come to a halt.
[open source rant on]
Open source seems to work best when it provides useful tools that can be used in numerous programs like image compression(libtiff, libjpeg), file compression(libzip),database(mysql) type stuff. The use of such tools make sense since there is no point for the developer to reinvent the wheel. Plus having such tools as open source gives a developer a chance to make modifications if needed. What does openbirds offer to the developer cummunity? Not much, unless you're a student trying to learn a little about writing an online game.
[open source rant off]
back to thread....
anything else bad about Vista?... :)

They dont call the company MicroSHAFT for any old reason! Skuzzy dont worry you have too many die hard fans that will leave XP on their machines to play AH. Your job is secure bro.. at least with me it is! I just cant quit you guys!!:aok
