this is the correct forum. in responce to the range thingies, one is distance and the other is the heading of the round. in theory, if you know your exact location and the exact location of your target, you can calculate the range without looking at the map. but most of us opt to enter LAND MODE and click on the map where we want steel on target.

How do you enter land mode? Also how do you change from AP to HE rounds?
Thanks

The above is all correct but I need to add some advice. The 5 inch is for anti aircraft and close quarter gunnery. Trying to whack away on towns / field with the 5 inch is next to pointless but having said that, it can be done. Aircraft / PT boats are the primary targets for 5 inchers. You can shoot other ships in sea mode "E" if their fleet is close in.
8 inchers are great for knocking towns down in land mode "W". Best way as follows :- bring up map, super zoom in on town ( Z+ ]]] ). Click centre of town and pess "W". You will notice the figures top left spin around. Stay in super zoom but lower map. You should see the gun still traversing and the town come into view before the gun comes to a stop. Now press "Page Down" a couple of time to bring the "cross hairs" to view. The shot does NOT fall where the cross is. It is there for you to use as a guide. Fire a couple of salvos and wait to see where shot falls. Adjust fall of shot with slight movements left to right and up and down. Max range is 27.9 in elevation. Q takes you out of auto.
On ships the method is much the same but you use "E". When ships are sighted free hand bring guns to bare and rais elevation. Press "E" go into super zoom fire and adjust. Practise makes perfect. You will get a feel for range in zoom with some experience. max range is 25 elevation becuase enemy fleet tends to be over the horizon.
Oh, before I forget. To set normal zoom peramitters it's Shift + Z.
