Came across this bird and was wondering a bit about it... BUT EVERYTHING ON THE WEB ABOUT IT IS IN GERMAN OR RUSSIAN!!!!!! :O



Anyone know anything about this nasty looking menace over the sea?

The pic you posted looks a lot like the Hawker Sea Fury but the tail is different so I'm not sure.

I think my picture is a T5 post WWII version.  I saw the picture you linked first, then decided to post this one instead (now looking at it I can really see the resemblance to a seafury).

...after translating the site I got this pic off of, looks like this plane didn't see much action untill after the war.

Search Google for "Blackburn Firebrand"

The version shown has the same engine and prop and the Sea Fury, but the Firebrand was larger and heavier.

The Firebrand was designed as a carrier fighter powered by a Napier Sabre engine, but because of engine unreliability and poor handling it was unacceptable. It was then redesigned to become a fast strike aircraft carrying a large torpedo, and powered by a Bristol Centaurus radial. The bulky Firebrand was a failure. Still it had a service life from 1946 to 1953. 141 were built.
