Title: Embarrasing...AH like Barney's Kiddie Game
Post by: Casper1 on February 17, 2006, 08:16:04 AM
For such a 'mature' (average age in the mid 30s or so according to this (http://www.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=171141) thread) community, it is amazing that there is so much:

"Stop picking on me you jerk"

"You shot me down NO FAIR"

"My plane sucks tonight!"

"Im gonna PM that ******* and make his life miserable"

"The XYZ guy is a total meanie on text buffer, he pokes fun and makes me angry"

"I dont like being harassed on a video game"

"Im telling on XYZ for being mean!"

In my opinion, chill the heck out.  If you are emotionally disturbed by a GAME or by VIRTUAL 'banter', then SIGN OFF for a while to cool down. Maybe its not healthy for you to have feelings of wanting to inflict real physical violence towards a virtual opponent.

Do we really have to resort to the old Rhyme: "Sticks and Stones may break my bones but virtual banter will never hurt me"?!?!?!

Its almost embarrasing to see the lengths of babysitting that is going on in AH -> especially in the BBS.

Are we playing a WW2 Fighter Sim or a Barney's Playhouse game?

I think alot of the reason a few play here, is to have a release to talk to people in a way they can't at work or home. They forget there are real people behind the game ids. And they dont't want to be reminded of that. Telling them to stop just starts it up again.

This environment can bring out the worst in people. You are unknown, free to act in a manner that you wouldnt if you knew the person. Tie that to the frustration of not knowing the other guy who is dumping on you and its a mixture we call...Chanel #200.

In fairness, the CH200 toxicity probably all comes from a very small minority of the 3000+ who take off each month. When the mature guys talk, you hear "great fight" or "caught me sleeping" or "great shot." The smack gets to "I'm coming back..." When one goes ballistic, its usually the computer equivalent of kicking the cat after a bad day at work -- and they come back to apologize, make it right.

There are probably 20-30 people who turn ch200 into ego wars, and they honestly destroy the sense of community far out of proportion to their numbers. Hopefully more and better trained monitors will change the equation.

I agree 100%.  I tell you what though.  Flying last night was great, a "few of the mentioned in a different thread" were NOT present.  It eerily reminded me of how quiet the MA can be, alas, the AH/AH2 switchover.  I still remember flying Bishop in the then "new AH2" until they switched it over.   However, last night's tranquility was shot down by shamus ofrcing me to stall my 110 at 85mph.

Amen Casper!  People that play games have to ask theirself a question:  why do I play this game in the first place?  Hopefully the voices in thier head respond: "I play for fun" If the answer is anything else, then the game player has some subconcious love for self-abuse, or a love for bullying others..neither of which are healthy.

Casper you assume that the TBC (teeny bopper club) post on boards.  I would say a greater % of the TCB couldn't be bothered with this BBS.  It wouldn't hold there attention long enough. However having said that there area few so called adults who fit rite in with the tbc mentality. I am betting that these people are also the most vocal.

The few teens that read the boards and reply without ranting are probable few and far between.

This is all just my opinion.

Ten Long Years
by B.B. King

Well, I had a woman,
She was nice, kind and loving to me in ever way.
Oh, I had a woman,
She was kind and loving to me in every way.
Oh, she used to love me
And bring my breakfast to the bed every day.
Oh, for ten long years,
She was my pride and joy.
Oh, for ten long years,
She was my pride and joy.
I used to call her my little girl.
Oh, she used to call me, she used to call me her little boy.
Oh, it`s all over baby.
You know I`m all alone.
It`s all over baby.
Babe you know I`m all alone.
It`s all over baby.
Babe you know I`m all alone.
Well, the reason you hear me singing the blues, baby,
Yeah, you know my baby`s gone, she`s gone, she`s gone.

My post had no insinuations of who posts on BBS or texts in ch.200 or whatever.  M

y point was that in general, theres alot of kiddie-banter amongst 'mature, not-so-young-aged' indivudals.

This little slice of the cyber universe that we all call Aces High, is now is everybody reading this? Make believe. Yes this is true. This is not our little version of the Matrix it is a game. Ladies and gentlemen if you are wound that tight that you get so bent out of shape over a hoe, collision, a vulch etc etc. Try a first shooter online game. Everybody needs to relax. :D

There are things I can control about 200 or on the BBS.  First is what I put out on 200 or the BBS that represents how I want folks to see me.  Second is how I react to the guys who are trying to stir things up.  That's still up to me.

If folks know they can get a rise out of people, they'll keep doing it.

You'll never end the negative stuff, but folks can sure impact it by how they react or not react as the case may be.

The example we set for new folks coming in also makes a difference I think.

But it's still on me to control me.  Hopefully if other folks feel the same and take care of their own stuff, it will begin to rub off on the community as a whole.

I always figure the second I start getting frustrated by anything in AH, I've lost my perspective on it for the day.  It's then time to log off and do something else as there is NOTHING in AH worth getting worked up about :)

My plane always sucks, and i don't know how my squad puts up with me on vox, what with all my screaming and unnecesary curse words everytime i get shot down.  I imagine there is a lot of .squelch nirvana.

I tuned off 200 and the text buffer is a lot slower now, sometimes hardly moving at times.  Don't really miss the banter at all.  I let the 40 year old children play Verbal Assault.

That hit the nail on the head. I am guilty of being a -->insert insult of choice here<-- sometimes. I try to ignore/squelch most what has been termed "banter" here when I see it on 200. One thing everyone seems to forget is what is lost in the translation when you can't see the person typing, you lose the "body language" & some people are just flat out trolling ( one person in this very thread tried to reel me in not long ago ). We are all imperfect beings & by definition have faults.  Give respect to get respect & above all regardless if you're irritated or not, don't lose it, just stay calm & squelch the problem.

Uber, telling everyone this isn't real is like saying there is no Santa... Cold man, cold.

This AH world totally cracks me up. People getting all bent cause of a cyber dude in a cyber world..  Do I laugh when I pop a 45 in the cockpit of some poor guy who just spawned onto the runway, Yes. Why you ask, cause it's funny. Sure my plane goes down in flames night after night but guess what, I get a brand new shiney plane. Now if I had to up some used piece of @#$% well ok I might get upset but, that's not the case.

Trash talkin over the internet is sooooo brave. haha Those that do it just crack me up...Oh how big and strong your virtual dude is... haha (get a life)

Forget the DA, I say virtual 45's at ten paces, main runway, high noon.

Wasn't trolling, merely giving back what you had said in the locked thread.  But, carry on.  Yawn.

Obviously you've never coached youth sports.
Had you. The first thing you would have realised isthe  kids usually act more mature then adults.

Same applies here;)
