Title: School zones
Post by: fartwinkle on February 17, 2006, 01:09:40 PM
Well seeing as someone thought to post a thread on how bicyclist get in there way I thought I would start one on how school zones slow me down and get in my way.

I just hate it when I have to slow down for some one elses kids as thay cross the street.
I mean cant they run across as to not inconvenience me heck they dont even have a drivers license and dont pay the taxes to build and maintain the roads so they should stay off of them;)

You see where im going with this?
Just incase you dont here is what im saying.

As tax payers we ALL have a right to the roads as long as we obey the LAW.

You are no more important than anyone else so try to remember that those people have a right to be there just as you do.

To endanger someones life just because you had to slow down or move over a bit is azzinine and foolish.

Think of it this way people riding bikes are more than likely costing the health care system less than you fat rednecks smoking on joking riding around in your 12mpg cowboy caddilacs:rofl

I dont care if Heather Locklear was standing neekid down the road aint nothing so important that you feel you have the right to hurt someone in a cowardly manner as to throw a bottle at them or run them off the road.

We have LAWS for a reason !! obey them or stay off the roads.

was was talked about in the other thread i get.

in the city i live in there is a 4 foot wide BIKE PATH!!! with signs and everything. it looks like a sidewalk, but it is called the fugin BICYCLE PATH. on the signs. my mother worked in the village government, and my stepfather is mayor. i know what it was built as. a BICYCLE PATH.

it is on the side of a 4 lane road that has a curb (no shoulder)

yet there are MORANS who ride their bicycle on the road, and have actually cause accidents because of cars having to swerve around them. 1 particular old man rides each day in summer during the height of rush hour. he insists it is against the law to ride a bike on a sidewalk, even if there is a sign.

as stated in the other thread he also runs red lights.

if you are on the ROAD you must ober ALL traffic signs and signals. not just the ones you feel like.

people like that endanger themselves, AND others. i have lived in this town for 33 years, and witnessed actual accidents this guy caused, and just kept the **** on pedaling away.

Drivers do not have rights.

In Texas, neither do pedestrians.

Granted if a bike path is availible it should be used I agree with you on that.
But if people dont have the driving skill to go around someone on a bike perhapes they should not be driving in the first place.

If you want to remain safe just think of it this way.
Most people got there divers licence on the fith try.

Drivers have no rights. There is no right to drive nor is there right to anything involving the act of driving.

You have a right to property (the car) and the right to privacy (in the car) but you do not have a right to drive the car. It is a privelidge to drive...that's why you're licensed to do so and that's why your license can be revoked.

Show you a link to what? A passage or sentence in the Constitution that says "there is no right to drive"?

I'll do you one better...

Show me anywhere in the United States Constitution or the Texas Constitution that states that residents have the right to drive a motor vehicle.

I told a joke too...once.  Someone asked me to prove it was a joke and I then decided that because it wasn't funny it couldn't be a joke so I simply decided that what I'd told is a story.

Sorry, nobody has the RIGHT to drive on any road, you are issued a drivers license and it is a privelage you have to be able to use it. The state can choose at anytime it sees fit to take away your privelage ( license ). Your supposed to have learned that in drivers ed.

The next thing you learn is that all pedestrians have the right of way, which means that when Joe Blow on his bike decides he wants to drive my lane, I have to slow down and give him the right of way

I don't mind it as long as they keep em off of the more congested roads and as long as they understand how traffic works and stay the F out of the middle of the road, it's the morons that put on there headphones and are riding in a lane of traffic in there own little world not paying attention to anything but listening to there headphones and thinking they are Lance Armstrong. ( all that person is doing is endangering thereselves and causing traffic to slow down ) keep the bikes off the main roads

whats even worse is there is no unified rule.

some are 24 hours a day
some are when children are present
some are 7-9 and 14-16
some are 7-17

and thats all in the Tigard-Sherwood area where I deliver.

Wierd. In NZ we have the right because we pay for the roads. We pay a registration fee annually, ie a road tax, if you drive a petrol engined vehicle your petrol costs also include a road tax, if you drive a diesel power vehicle you pay a tax based on km usage (no tax in the diesel price).

It is not a privilege, I pay a tax for the right.

Likewise pedestrians do NOT have the right of way. It is illegal for pedestrians (and cyclists) to walk/ride on a motorway. Cyclists must keep to the left of the road and if available stay in a cycling lane.  It is also illegal for cyclists (and motorcycles) to ride line abreast.

On our roads a diamond is painted near pedestrian crossings to mark the 'point of no return', ie when a motorist may not be able to stop in time. A pedestrian who decides to step into the path of a vehicle with no time to stop has only one right... the right to a funeral.

The 24 hour law was overturned, with a delay to allow for local governments to waste more money having to change the signs again.  I think it goes away in March.

I don't know about New Zealand or Texas...but here in Arkansas driving is a privelage, not a right. I would post a link to the written warning I got when I was a teenager with a Z-28 Camaro if I could find it. It went something like this...."Arkansas motorist - You have exceeded the ten (10) point limit to retain driving privledges in Arkansas; if you garner any more citations in a twelve (12) month period from the date printed at the top of this warning; your driving priveledges will be revoked. Remember driving is a priveledge....not a right."

We pay usage taxes here in the United States of America as well, probably as high or higher than most countries. But here in the United States of America; just the simple fact you pay taxes for a service doesn't make it automatically a right. Sort of like I pay for AHII service but am not gauranteed a right to freedom of speech because it wasn't given in the TOS when I signed up. Our rights in this country are what's written in the constitution, that's why we shouldn't change it willy nilly, it's our only gaurantee of the most basic rights. A lot of people take freedom for granted & assume more rights than they actually have.

Here's a test of how much road you have a "right " too....take a chop saw & go cut out your bought & paid for chunk of public roadway & see where you end up! ROFL

Where we would we be without such guidance? I mean after all......I seem to recall that it was mentioned once..........well maybe twenty times that he is a retired officer. I beleive my home state of Texas is a much better place due to this....................the retirement.

lets set the record straight, this driving "privilege" crap is so the govt can control you, you need a license and tag so the state can raise money. once i get a tag for my car, why do i have to renew it every year? it's same car , same owner, same tag number, different little $ticker.

i think politicians should have to run for reelection every year, then they will be too busy to make more laws to control us and take our money.

hey, i sound like a libertarian.

BTW, you don't need a "license" to drive, all you need is the skill, you need one to drive according to their rules.

Speed laws have a lot more to do with revenue collection than safety.
