Harry Whittington, the guy who Cheney accidently plugged with bird shot, was a most gracious and kind hearted gentleman, considering he was seriously wounded, as evidenced by the close up photos.
Harry hit the ground hard, which suggests his body went into immediate shock from a substantial injury event.
Texans should be proud of this guy, and Cheney, very greatful.

Harrys statement:
=============
Good Afternoon.
All of you in the media have been very patient in waiting for me to make my appearance here. I hope you understand. I’m sorry I delayed you, but I know your role is to get the news out to the public. I compliment you on what you’ve done. I’ve read and seen many of your reports and I know your job isn’t easy. I regret that I couldn’t have been here earlier so you could see what a lucky person I am.
For many years my family has been friends with the Armstrongs down in Kenedy County. We have visited with them for over 25 years and have had some wonderful trips and visits – pleasant memories that we cherish forever. However, this past weekend encompassed all of us in a cloud of misfortune and sadness that is not easy to explain – especially to those who are not familiar with the great sport of quail hunting.
We all assume certain risks in whatever we do, whatever activities we pursue. And regardless of how experienced, careful and dedicated we are, accidents do and will happen – and that’s what happened last Friday.
I am very grateful and want to thank all the people that remembered me in their prayers and the kindness you have extend to my family that’s been here this week.
My family and I are deeply sorry for all that vice president Cheney has had to go through this past week. We send our love and respect to them as they deal with situations that are much more serious than what we’ve had this week. And we hope that he will continue to come to Texas and seek the relaxation that he deserves.
I also thank all of you for understanding the best you can that medical attention was very important to someone my age. And you haven’t failed to give my age.
Finally, I want to say there’re simply not adequate words to express my gratitude and appreciation to the very talented physicians, medical staff, nurses, of this great Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital system, here in Corpus Christi and in Kingsville. They’ve given me exceptional treatment, care and compassion for which I’m very grateful. They are truly remarkable servants of God and I’m extremely blessed for all they’ve done.
Thank you.

And thanks for the invitation.
;)

thanks hangtime, Welcome to the mainstream :D
Cheney is doing a fine job as point man for an administration that doesnt take orders from the United Nations, in my simplistic opinion.
PS: Whenever I am in the "mainstream" I know Im ****ed up :noid
I love you bro, regardless :)

very well put. sums him up well.
Whittington, OTOH is a very gracious and understanding man. were I in his position I'd strive hard for a quick recovery, while looking forward to the day when I had regained enough strength to shove that shotgun up Chaney's ass.

your from portland oregon, the lord will forgive you. Hopefully :D

"Cheney is doing a fine job as point man for an administration that doesnt take orders from the United Nations, in my simplistic opinion. "
Lol... what?
If your blinders are so maladjusted as to bring up the UN as your one and only contention when discussing Cheney, then.... well crap, I dunno.
I marvel at the world you are living in. Not a diss.... a fascination.
-
**** nash, like you really think what you believe matters to anyone besides yourself??? Welcome to democracy.......
I like Cheney simply because people like you, and people associated with AlGore "and hangtime" despise Cheney. What better reason to support someone you dont know........algore is a hugahunk of profound proportions...even cheney would pale in comparrison to algore, in my opinion.
No offense bro, cause I have no doubt that you are a decent human being.
Maybe sometime we can meet up and drink a good beer and defeat canadian communism together. I believe we are seperated by less than 200 miles, you know......depending on whether you are on the canadian east coast or west coast. of course........

My question is >>>> Was the guy he shot a Democrat? :D
-
Yeager...
I'll have a beer with you, fer sure!
But don't try and get all studmuffingy on me. Gore would SMOKE Cheney in a debate.
I'll dig up a Gore speech, you dig up a Cheney speech... we'll have a loving picnic repleat with a wicker basket full of fruit, a blanket, little sandwiches, and a large bottle of soda water.... then we'll whip out our video Ipods and watch Gore manhandling shooter Cheney as if the VP were some kind of ideological linguistic gimp wholey unfit for the office he serves.
But Yeager.... our love won't, CAN'T last.
Society isn't ready for it.
-
I don't 'despise' the guy... I despise the 'government for the corporations, by the corporations and of the corporations' he and his cronies represent.
Yeag, the guy makes decisons based on business interests. Not human interests. There's young men and women dead, more dying every day to protect corporate profits that are his vested interest. When did our military become the security force for business interests of Haliburton and the Oil corporations?
Yer worried about the UN? Man; pick up a newspaper.. the UN ain't the problem, our lying, decietful, secretive administration and it's venue of profits is the problem.
This is not the way it's supposed to be, is it? Secret meetings with the oil corporation CEO's, then an invasion; then record oil profits?
Slam Dunk, there's WMD; my ass!
-
Speeches and debates don't make a leader any more than witty remarks, snappy comebacks or elegant prose substantiate a bbs argument on the intardnet.
If I want to be entertained, awed or inspired I don't turn on C-SPAN. Some people do. Some people also cast votes because they "like" a certain politician more than another.

I despise the 'government for the corporations, by the corporations and of the corporations' he and his cronies represent.
====
I work for a corporation so I have a vested interest in the success or failure of the corporation.
Yeag, the guy makes decisons based on business interests. Not human interests.
====
Human interest and business interest on a global level are so deeply dependant on each other as to form into a single interest. Can no longer have one without the other.
Yer worried about the UN? Man; pick up a newspaper.. the UN ain't the problem
====
I havent been worried about the UN since Clinton was deposed. Ive rather enjoyed the way in which this administration has disengaged from that particular corporation.
This is not the way it's supposed to be, is it? Secret meetings with the oil corporation CEO's, then an invasion; then record oil profits?
====
Unfortunately hang, Im afraid this is the way its supposed to be. After looking at the evidence, there is no other way it could have been. We have evolved during these past 100 years into todays global economic political and envirnmental condition for two simple reasons, lubrication and fuel.......
Slam Dunk, there's WMD; my ass!

Gore would SMOKE Cheney in a debate.
====
Hellwhat? heres what I would say nash: Bush handled Gore just fine during the presidential debates, at a minimum Bush did not allow Gore to dominate, and Cheney could slice Bush up into litle pieces in any debate. If Gore and Cheney were ever to debate, I am confident that little Dick could handle that big salamander :D
-
I think the number of people in this country that work for multinational mega corporations vs the number of people in this country that work for small business interests will show that we are indeed a nation of individuals.. with the best intrests of those individuals being best served by kicking the multinationals outta american politics, the commerce department and forigen policy.
sooner rather than later; it's gonna be too late; if it's not already, to pry them off the throne.
20 million american jobs lost in the last 6 years to forigen interests; to the multinationals that bank overseas and to trade and immigration policies that are simply put... insane.
Yeag, buy a clue; not a beer.
-
Well to be honest, Yeager, the whole Gore thing came out of left field to me when you said:
"I like Cheney simply because people like you, and people associated with AlGore "and hangtime" despise Cheney."
I think Gore is outstanding, but mostly I just used it as a jumping off point from which I could plan our romantic picnic retreat.

Hang, as long as I have people like you providing me lots of clues Im ok. Beer is good anytime, as long as its good beer. Another thing, people that are vehemently anti corporation always throw up little red flags for me. They quite simply are usully the people who have gotten royally screwed somewhere down the road and have axes in need of grinding. Corporations are merely extensions of individual successes. And I agree, that in the grand scheme of things, coroporations likely do as much, if not more harm than good. But alas, look at it philosophically, you get your 75-85 years if your lucky then your dead.
Actually Nash, I liked Al Gore just fine. I consider him the yang opposite the ying. Or is it the ying opposite the yang.......oh well
-
Contrary to popular practice, I'm going to say something ONTOPIC.
While it's good that Whittington acknowledged that it was an accident and that **** happens sometimes, his flowing praise for Cheney was pure BS and probably written by a Cheney PR man.
A simple, "**** happens, I'll not be ticked when my neck stops hurting. Be good to have a brew with Dick in the future," would have been so more fitting to what actually happened.

I think you're talking about Bush Sr.'s VP.... DUCK! QUAYLE!
-
Harry Whittington sounds like a man with dignity & class
I can see why he hangs out with Cheney
-
seriously, whats edwards been up to these last half dozen years?
The guy was a joker and a loser......
-
Well... asking about where he's been over the last half dozen years seems kinda strange, in light of the fact that he was the candidate for Vice President only a year and a half ago.
You remember that one? The one where near half of the entire gawdamned country voted for his ticket?
But these sorts of lapses aren't surprising... especially when you get the guy confused with "you are no Jack Kennedy" Quayle.
What's he been doing lately? He's been keeping busy. Odds are he's gonna run again.
-

You mean John F. Kerry? The ******* who changed his jewish last name to an irish last name?
You remember that one? The one where near half of the entire gawdamned country voted for his ticket?
I do. It was the first time in a long time that the MAJORITY voted for a person, instead of a plurality.
What's he been doing lately? He's been keeping busy. Odds are he's gonna run again.
If you're speaking about Edwards, odds are he's going to not be voted in as senator for North Carolina again. Because of a minor case of 'Lying and Pandering.'

It was an unfortunate hunting accident for the VP. He is damn lucky it wasn't worse. There were no excuses for what happened. Thankfully everything turned out ok.
I do not approve of beer mixed with hunting. Even after/during lunch and a nap before the afternoon hunt. Hunting is serious business...period. You can't call back a bullet.
Hopefully something was learned from this. Cheney must be going through hell, even if nothing more was said about it. He''ll think about that for the rest of his life.
Punishment enough.

Meanwhile, while the media focuses on "Shotgun Gate", more important news that fails to make primetime occurs and Doug Giles nails it with this piece:
Hey hysterical media chum suckers, if you want to obsess about a gun (or guns) in South Texas, why don’t you travel a little further southwest from Corpus Christi to Laredo where U.S. authorities just snatched ready-to-detonate IEDs, materials for making 33 more, military style grenades, 26 grenade triggers, large quantities of AK-47 and AR-15 assault rifles, 1280 rounds of ammo, silencers, machine gun assembly kits, 300 primers, bullet proof vests, police scanners, sniper scopes, narcotics and cash from Mexican dope dealers?

Nash, the Majority means more then 50% . A plurality means the most.
I.E. If bush won 49% of the vote, and Kerry won 48%, Bush won by a plurality.

beer + quail + shotguns = accidents looking for an place to happen.
Not too bright.

More to the point, Bush won with a majority of the popular vote in 2004. That had not happened since George H. W. Bush won in 1988.
Clinton won 2 electoral victories in '92 and '96 without getting a majority of the popular vote (due to Ross Perot).
The current Bush won in 2000 without even getting a plurality of the popular vote (but did have the Electoral Vote win, the one that "counts"). Gore had the plurality, but not a majority (due to Ralph Nader).
So, Bush winning with the majority of the popular vote was kind of a big deal given the last three elections.

Not to sidetrack the debate too much, but did anyone see Woodward and Bernstein on Larry King Live last night?
They were quite lucid with many of their points, if you discount Berstein's foam-at-the-mouth rants about Bush. However, when they digressed to talking about Cheney's hunting accident they branded themselves as city-slicker-Valley-girl wannabes.
Quothe Woodward; "I don't know much about hunting but...."; and then he went on to prove it.
No wonder the democrats are losing the Heartland to the Republicans.

Good thing he didn't commit negligent homicide. He might not ever get elected.
During the month of June in 1969, Edward Kennedy was involved in a horrible car accident. He had been driving back from a party on Chappaquiddick, Massachusetts, and had driven off the edge of a bridge. .......Mary Jo Kopechne, a woman who was in his car, was killed. She was a 29-year-old blond secretary in Washington D.C., who worked for Senator Robert F. Kennedy and Senator George Smanthers. Edward Kennedy's wife was home with their children and had not attended the party.
The accident was not reported until eight hours after the car had sunk to the bottom of the river.

Try to cover it up while the girl died slowly.
There is a good web site that documents the whole thing, she was alive and using an air pocket in the car. Prolly for hours.

Maybe if any of those had anything to with just the Republicans.
WMD were moved right before the invasion, don't know what lies your referring to, V plame was never "outted" because she wasn't covert anymore, energy policy was a compromise with the Dems.
So what exactly have the Repubs done on their own? (I know they are doing stuff I 'm just wanting to see if you do.)

Please!
Even if he had beaten him worse that Truman/Dewey you would still come up with something stupid like "It would mean something but when you realize that Kerry had his fingers crossed you'll understand how close the election really was.".
Get over it Bush won by a majority!
