Did Spurrier really quit? (http://espn.go.com/ncf/news/2002/0104/1305688.html)

Hehe, I told my mom on New Year's Day that we might get lucky and the old ball coach would move on to the NFL.

Personally, I think he's expecting Dungy to get fired and will go after the resulting vacancy for head coach of the Tampa Bay Bucs.  Of course it'd take a bit to stomach that as a Bucs fan, but if I can cheer for Warren Sapp (ex-Miami Hurricane) I could cheer for Spurrier to win games as the Bucs coach.

As it is, only San Diego and Minnesota have coaching vacancies, though Minn does have Culpepper and Moss, something Spurrier could work well with.

Oh Man ..  :(

I enjoyed watching him on the sidelines and his explosive QB's.

College footballs loss ...

Tampa was my first thought too Nifty, but you'd think he'd at least wait and see if Dungy loses the first round of the playoffs first.  His getting fired right now is far from a sure thing.

Could be something under the table with Minn?  Timing would make more sense than Tampa, would see him fitting in better there than in SD.

I think Tony Dungy (Tampa Bay) is out no matter what happens short of the Super Bowl this year. My feeling for that is the high dollars they have on payroll and the expectations that have not been realized with Dungy as the coach.

But on the other hand with Minnesota just buying out Dennis Green's contract something might be happening there. Although if I was Spurrier I would think twice about taking a job to coach a guy who only plays when he wants to.

One more thing; I give Florida 2-3 more years at or close to the top in the SEC. I think the man is an outstanding offensive mind. But I don't foresee Florida without Steve Spurrier staying on top in the SEC like they have for the last several years.

One thing about Spurrier though, is he sticks by his guns in what he believes in, no matter what.  If he does take the Vikings job, and Moss does his normal "I'll play when I wanna play" stuff, Spurrier will turn around and say "no, you'll play when I tell you to play, and that's as of now 'not anytime soon'".

My mentioning Tampa is along the lines of Malcolm Glazer contacting Spurrier and saying something along the lines of "barring a Super Bowl appearance, you're our head coach next year.  At the very least, you're our offensive coordinator.  We'll give ya $2+ million in either case."

Hmmm... most of the rumor mill has Green going to San Diego, Dungy going to Minnesota and Spurrier going to Tampa.

I can see Dungy in Minnesota, he was the former defensive coordinator there.  Plus he won't put up with Moss' attitude anymore than Spurrier would.

San Diego would probably go after Green, they're looking for someone with more NFL experience and that's got a more than decent record.

Spurrier in San Diego wouldn't work, IMO, with Norv Turner as the offensive coordinator.  Spurrier is gonna want a lot of control over the offense, and Turner won't go for that.

Florida can stay near the top.  They just need to take Bob Stoops back from Oklahoma.
