We delayed the Con last fall with the intention of rescheduling it to this June. Our goal with this Con is to make it accessible as possible by keeping it very affordable for people to attend. We wanted to do away with the general registration fee so that anybody could come by without having to pay a registration fee. Things traditionally covered by the registration fee such as internet connection, t-shirts, hats, etc. would be shifted to ala carte pricing. We also would need a local hotel with a very affordable room rate.
Unfortunately, it has proven difficult to find a place that meets our criteria. We had surpassed our deadline to find a place and still had not come up with anything suitable. We were ready to push it back to the fall when Coach did some checking for us through his contacts and came up with a good location.
However, we are now at the minimum amount of lead time needed to continue in June. Otherwise our option is to push it back to the fall. Our tentative plan is to hold the Con June 22-25 close to the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport.
We'd like to hear from those planning to attend the con this year if you prefer this date or would rather move it back to the fall. Please respond to this thread with your preference if you are interested in attending the Con this year.

I might try to make the con for a fair consumption of adult beverages and fisticuffs with fellow AH'rs.....
hmm - mai-tais with 151....

What will the status of "Combat Tour" be in June? I'm not planning on going to the Con without it.

Figured someone would ask that.
As long as I'm not in school; I'm hoping to attend this year.
-
June works for me ... but I could also go in the fall.
-
Hey Py,
I'm looking at actually making one.
Sept is better for me.
-
June works for me. And - even though it is soon - a summer con may work out for many other players. Some are teachers, and summer is much more convenient for their attendance.
-
I'd like to go. Just need to know about how much money will be needed.
-
June is fine but Fall would be better. I have USBC bowling tournament June 29 to July 1, and then I go to Carson City to see my new grandbaby July 2.
-
June is good for me .. well as anytime is during hurricane season down here in south florida.

In!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if i have a job and enough money by then. but i need somebody to bum a ride off of.
-
i went to the last 2 cons, but i know i can't make one if it is in June. won't have the money, nor the vacation available. i may be able to get the vacation in the fall, but between memorial day and labor day is out for me.
-
Can make it to either one, fall would give me more time to save both money/vacation time, understand the summer has its benefits for family people.
-
Fall would be easier for me. Most if not all June vacation slots are full at work.

I can't go Con Johnnyra told me hes going to beat me up. but then i'm sure not oly one he said that too............

Hard to find a Hyatt style convention hall at Red Roof Inn prices, you'd have better luck booking at a Barbecue joint with an adjoining topless bar and a Holiday Inn across the street.
-
june is fine on my end, but fall would be ok also :aok after all its a whole 20 minute drive for me:lol
-
Coach - How you gonna fit all these people in your living room?
or did you book the Clubhouse in Arlington?
-
Thats really really far away from my little ol ohio. Depending on grades (darn you grade rules!!!) i may attend.

You'd save yrself a lot of money by getting yr IFR and 250 hrs to do it in the Mooney. Esp over that distance - talk to Bill.

He said that to me also. He was even nice enough to offer to come to my house so I didnt have to wait for the Con to get my beatdown.
I'll still go either June or in the Fall.

Can we please contain this thread to addressing your preferences between June 22 and later in the fall if you plan on attending? Thanks.

June is fine by me, although it is cooler in the fall.... the counter is texas chicks in skimpy clothing during the summer though!

Pyro.. My preference is to go only if CT is going to be done. If that means it has to be pushed off to fall, please do. THanks

I plan on attending the convention no matter where you have it. The dates seem ok as they are.:)
-
I can and will make those dates in June. If you host it in the Fall I will not be able to attend.
-
I can make either date but will probably not go if the other mongrels are not there - so make it June, please.
Also let's get this decided soon. The airfare is climbing every day we get closer (and frequent flier seats are disappearing).
Sour

I will make it with my son if it's in June,
middog and little midi 332nd Flying Mongrels

i would like to attend, depends on how everything is goin for me at the time, texas is a really long ways from michigan but i will still try to make it, june or the fall.

June/July would be the only times I could make it. Fall is out due to a number of reasons. The main being another child making his or her debut.

Gratz ForHim !!!
Not sure I would make the event either time, not that I wouldnt want to.....lots of work travel in the near future....but I would probably only attend if the 332nd Mongrels had a showing. That looks like a June vote for me.

june would be only time i could go fall just to much going on with the family..

Problem with Texas is,
in June, the weather is HOT!!!
I think if there is a getogether,
is would be more prudent to
have it in late Sept/early Oct.
Chi
-
Dallas is just a hop-skip-& a jump for me by auto. I would attend if I have the time;no date preference. If it is in the fall I may be gone working hurricane relief as this is where the lions share of my yearly income rests. On the other hand if one hits Texas I'll still be close.
-
Just because it is June doesn't make it better than Sept. or Oct. We had 90s in Jan. this year. Think A/C and cold beer.
-
I plan on attending and either time if fine.
-
June is good. Along with any other date. Just give an advanced notice please.:aok

Wish you guys would hold the con in Philly, or some other East Coast town sometime.

I would prefer September... But I don't have enough cash - this year... Damn those Cross-Atlantic flight costs!! Oh well, you're all welcome to the Finnish AH-pilots Spring Meeting in April. -- Sorry Pyro, didn't mean to hijack your thread! :)
-
any place or time as long as it has a parking lot big enough for lipstick
-
im definatly comming this year. as for the time, I personally would prefer you had everything setup the way you want instead of having it to early and having to rush.
-
I'll attend. June is fine but fall can work too for me.

Afraid you will melt? :D
'sides, if you don't smoke...there will be little reason to go out doors for much of the time you are there.

I'll be willing to make either June or later.. only 3 hr drive to get there....
Just need confermed dates to request time off....

June aint too bad july and aug are the real hot ones.

june or fall dont matter just need dates cause its a long trip from Alaska to texas need to plan ahead of time

June is good, as I'm jonesing for a Con (I had to miss it last time :( ). But whatever works out is cool with me, just so long as you have one.
I'd prefer it to be at that hotel up there next to Grapevine Mills mall again. That's an excellent venue, because you get free eggs-to-order breakfast with the room, there's a microbrewery next door that sells excellent ale by the gallon for reasonable prices, and then you can go to the Bass Pro Shop and livefire your guns :).
-
June best for me.
-
Prefer Fall. June may be doable, but probably not.
Nice to hear about pricing. We'll see how it turns out...

It's only 2.3 -3.5 hours no matter the time. Just let the date be known when ya can.
GOLF!!!!!! I'm playing golf someplace there.

I want to come to the Con whether it's in June or the Fall. Wife say's if I go I have to bring her and our 2 1/2 year old daughter...Has anyone else taken kids to the Con before? will it be child friendly?

JUNE for me!
i'm probably going to get sent to iraq in the fall so..... earlier the better =)

I hear that:aok

Frankly, both work OK for me, if I can get the scratch together for the flight. Gotta' admit, though, that the sound of Texas cuties in warm-weather gear sounds pretty good...
In the end, I only need to know one thing...You guys got a good trap/skeet/clays range out there? Forget golf, I need a real game...;)
-
For me, The Year is already getting booked up. Iv got an Italy Trip, Oshkosh for a week, and Reno Air Races planned. June looks very unlikely. Fall Might have a better chance, depending on the dates.
I cant commit to either date at this time, But Fall looks more likely.

Child friendly? Well, not really for someone so young. You will be watching her all the time unless you are the kind of parent that lets em run loose. I plan on taking my son if it is June. He is 10 and will have a ball. A squadie of mine that took his son in 2002 had a lot of fun also. They both will also attend and I expect them both to have a blast together. :)
-
June will be better for me this go around.
-
I am Looking forward to being there As long as I can get frieght( thats
usually no prob) 1 Request I would like to be able to park a Tractor Rig
if possible. .

Thx Daddog. Either my wife or I would be watching her, she's not allowed to run loose or disturb others. I'll discuss it with my wife more, but it is reassuring to know others take their kids also.

Well june would be best for me, assuming nothing comes up.

pick a date already i got to start planing this alaska a long ways :O

On that family friendly question....
Seems like when people talk about the con, the main variable is the degree of inebriation. I know some of thats just kidding around, but were not talking about an animal house lite here, are we?
Also -- Besides the obvious coolness of meeting people IRL and hanging out with those who share your unique addiction, what exactly happens at the con?
-

I've been to 3 of em and can't recall a single thing. Just Kidding :rofl
A lot of folks arrive Thursday afternoon for equipment set-up, a few laughs over Happy Hour and settle in to flying.
Friday usually involves a guest speaker or two. Sadly, there's not many alive or able to get around. HT & Pyro sometimes do a Q&A over development, etc. Friday evening normally involves a 2v2 KOTH.
Saturday morning usually means a trip over to the Cavanaugh Flight Museum for some up-close WW2 viewing. HT holds court during the banquet and prize(s) hand-outs and then it's on to the real fun...muahahahaha.
can you say "flying pt boats"?
-
Lambo31, Simaril did bring up a point. There is a lot of drinking going on but 90% of the time is very relaxed and friendly. Personally I rarely drink (never in excess any more, used to be a brawler) but those who attend are just out to have a good time with some friends. The language can be colorful but the atmosphere is lighthearted and fun. Some of the guys have… risqué pictures on their desktops. ;) My son and I will have a chat about all the above and more before we attend. If he is going to be exposed to “adult” material I would rather he be with me then experimenting with his buddies behind the garage.
Simaril meeting your fellow AH pilots by itself is worth going to the con. It will give you a whole new perspective on the game and the community. In 2002 HTC had a Q & A session that lasted about 2 hours. Was great to be able to ask Hitech and Pyro questions directly about AH and their plans. Sour who runs the ladder hosted a 2 vs 2 duel and my guess he will again. They usually have a nice dinner and then the Saturday night evil con mission is always a blast. :) DMax covered it nicely too. :)
-
Dale if I fly to the con. what is the best airfield nearby? I will be in a FR-172 so small is not a problem closer is better.
Scoot

probaly try Addison Airport (ADS)
-
I am thinking about going. I could probably work either, but the fall would give me more time to raise the funds.
-
Thanks for the answers! Sounds really good, but it brings up another question.
Since a lot of the fun happens in front of a computer, what do guys do who are out of driving range? I cant really imagine taking a desktop rig on commercial flight...

What I've seen done before is a Con organizer arranges with a local supplier to have monitor rentals available, then you just bring your own box. I've done that as carry-on.

As to date, if June I can likely attend and would like to do so. October drops the likelihood a little, although not to "impossible".

what was said about the moniter rental is usually the case, also, it usually can eb set up to ship the tower to the hotel, and ship it home.
personally i drove (from wisconsin) just because a plane ticket, shipping, and all expenses were abotu equal. also i dont trust shipping my baby lol
-
Anyone around the Memphis area going?
__GWD__

shipin shipin Sh|p|n if i ship my tower i will beat it to the hotel. first i got to get it to the mail man (AKA: THE DOG SLEDER) :O to get it to the mail office from there they give it to FeDX ground (AKA: FedX Dog Sled Team) :huh which they will take it to the border of canada and USA then from there they can fly it or ground it. still i will have flew to the CON and back home before it ever reached the hotel:cry

Best option is an XPC sized rig you can CARRY ON WITH YOU.
Next best option is to FEDEX/UPS it to the hotel to arrive near the time you do. You should let the concierge know ahead of time of course. Then you can either make arrangements for the concierge to FEDEX/UPS it back for you on Black Monday (prepaid UPS works well) or stay till Monday AM and do it yourself.
You can of course purchase an inexpensive system (like emachine) in Dallas and just bring extra ram and a good vid card with you....then ship it back since youll have a pretty good packaging(Id recoment turning it inside out).
Least favorable option is to let the airline touch it in any way. They specifically exclude computers from their liability, and since American is one of the main airlines going to DFW, and in the past 12 months they have lost at least one peice of luggage from over 10% of travelers (worst in the industry)      just not a good thing.
Last time shipping cost me about $70 roud trip....slow round trip

I have been to the last two ... didn't bring a computer and don't ever think I will bring one.
I go to put faces to people, drink, bullchit and generally socialize. Had a blast both times.

Had a blast both times.
Who's ur buddy?? :lol
Agree with Slap on this....faces w/names.... lots of BS and tasty adult bevs. Since I live in Dallas, I'll have my puter there... all are welcome to jump on and fly it if they wish. Just bring your stick and maybe a usb flash card for your settings.

Late Summer, early fall....just after Labor day is good for me....I'd love to try and make it there...sounds like a blast!

make a date
-
Just found out a required refresher class on the subjects of roadside brain surgery, scraping pieces of people off fenders, and other such things important to my job as a fireman, will be in June sometime, but the dates ain't set yet. If the Con and the class conflict, I'll have to go to class to keep my job. Thus at present, with neither Con nor class dates certain, a fall date might be better for me.
