Question: Which side do you usually play as in MA.
I myself play for the Bishops. Even though i have only played for like a week now, i usually side with bishops, and provide any sort of help i can. Especially since their always losing

Some squads have settled into one country and their members usually fly for that country.
Some people develop a huge loyalty to their chess piece and will defend their "homeland" to the death. Ingame as well as on these boards.
Some people - like me - love "spying" and switch sides regularly. To help the side with lowest number, to fly with friends or just to see whats on the other side of the fence.
If you want to know about specific people, look up their kill stats (expanded format) under Community/scores on the HTC homepage.
On the bottom you get stats for which county they made the kills/died for.

Although every country does all these things here is what I have seen.
I like to fly agianst the knights because the fights are good, most are not alt monkeys and most will take some risks and make it fun.
Flying against the rooks is fun, but most are alt monleys and few of them take any risks. A lot of safety pilots over there. A lot of hording as well, I guess mainly cause they fight well together. PErsonally I don't like fighting greens for kills more than I am fightin reds, it's the main reason I get tired of fighting with rooks. When I am off looking for more reds than green I am usually alone. Then as the fights gets good more and more green show up until the fight blows and it is all greens and then I see most of the usual suspects.
The bish are a mixed bag, combination of Rooks and Knight description. One thing I noticed with Bish... You could have a few greens around you, but once they all get sent to the tower and the fight starts getting tough a few moments later you are all alone and they just don't up anymore.
All in all there are a lot of fun people on all sides. It is fun to get to know everyone and fly with them. When you do, you start to realize who is who and who can do what as well as get a good sense of the countries personalities.

I fly Rook on the Main, mostly because some guys I knew who got me into this mess flew Rook and I figured I'd go where I had a few wingmen already.
As for alt-monkeying, tell the truth I don't see too many Rook fighters up above 10-12k, so maybe I'm just not in the right place (I see more Bish astronauts than anything).
Personally I don't like all the side switching. I think if you pick a country then that's the country you should be in for at LEAST a full tour, and can't switch again until the next month.

Depends on who I'm spying on....for....

I suggest switching around, especially if your new. It gives you a chance to meet the other 2/3's of the community. If your looking for a squad to fly with you have a better chance of getting involved with one that suits your style doing this.
I have been switching around a little bit of late and have found out that each country pretty much shares the same types of players in terms of flying styles, game goals and attitudes. Each country has its astronauts, furballers, base capturers etc. It's also nice to switch up when the country your on is busily overwhelming another country (I find that kinda boring as my game goals don't normally include resetting the map but do include dogfighting other planes).
As far as alt monkeying specifically....every country has players who like to get copious quantities of altitude before entering the fight. Rooks are no exception, I see green guys waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay above me all the time.
To me the ability to switch sides allows for good fights and has relatively little to do with country loyalty. If however your into country loyalty that's perfectly fine. My squad happens to be made up of several folks like that and pretty much stays rook, which is why I pretty much stay rook when they are flying. But I have to tell ya....it's very fun to change countries at times for the sole purpose of fighting your buddies in your squad.
*Disclaimer*: None of the above is intended as "bashing" any particular sort of gameplay :).

It's all the same... I switch countries whenever I can't find a fight, and I don't notice a difference. Different names in green, that's all. I just tend to avoid flying bish... far too many people that require squelching over there. I'm rook most of the time, for no other reason than it being an old habit.
-
I used to only fly Knights. Good people, good squads, I felt comfortable there. If I switch, I usually fly Bishops. Becasue they are always losing. :)
No seriously. I've found alot of people to respect on that team, excellent fliers and good attitudes. I consider it my second home.
I have flown Rooks a few times. Didnt care much for it. They seem very clannish. They also have some good 1v1 pilots, but their skills as a country seem to be more on the teamwork side. I cant fault that. Its frustrating sometimes to the rest of us, but they know how to play the game and they play to win.

Thats why you fly with a big squad. :aok
Everyone does the alt monkey stuff. Ive seen rooks way above me when im at 12k. Id fly to say a bish base and see bish over their base at 20k like I saw last night and bish flew off their cv right off shore and still had to go 10k to enter that fight. Knights arent innocent either as I saw them last night 16k in dweebfires 16 mostly and upping from a cv as well going to really high alt.
Every country has people go to high alts thinking they will be safe but when they dive down always that good chance of becoming what I love watching, a lawn dart. :t

And this matters because?
Maybe because he said he was new and wanted to know. And because he was curious about the game and was looking for some friendly input from the AH community.
RandomGuy, I fly for LTAR, where they go, I go. We few with the Knights for quite a long time. There are some really great people with the Knights. Here a while back, we decided to do some time with the other two sides. We went to the Bishops first because they were, for the longest time, out numbered. When we got there, the Bishops gave us a warm welcome and in general made us feel very welcome. They also were willing to lend a hand when asked which is something that was getting to be rare where we were. We stayed two weeks with the Bishops an then went to the Rooks. The feeling there was quite different. The Rooks have some great people and some really great squads. We are currently fighting with the Bishops and have been for some time. You can always find a large fight along either front.
As stated above there are pros and cons to each side. You will have the good sticks, the good GVers, and unfortunately the loud mouth know-it-alls who give their side a bad name. But in general you will find each side worth visiting. Hopefully you will find a good squad that will help you along and not prejudice you against any side.
Salute and I hope you enjoy your Aces High adventure as much as I have.
Remember to kiss your wife good by before logging on. :D

bwahahaha Knights all the way and lets see you Rook Alt monkeys catch me escorting Genrl at 30K tehehehe. O ya I noticed it is a lot easier to force bish into turnfights/kill.But I usually fight the Rooks to counter there alt monkeyness and usually because they give the most challenge in general. But dang nickel5 is the bish you want to watch out for man he is an awesome stick (dang he use to be a knight) he pwns with his mossie o doom and that Chog. Best I have done is make him smoke when it was him in a 38 and me in a Hurr1.

You'll notice this while fighting Bish as well...They're really, really, really great at .......QUITTING. Rather than tenaciously fight for something they'll quit en masse and go milkrun some far-flung corner of the map with no enemy, except on the small maps, where they have no choice but to fight...I LOVE small maps!!! :aok

The thing about alt monkeys is very few know exactly how to use altitude to maximum advantage. When I see someone high my first thought is to 'suck-drag' them lower. Most, I'd say 90%, of people who obsessively alt are so over-confident in whatever advantage it gives them that they will over-commit with little persuasion and allow you to suck their E out of them for you or friend waiting below with knife and fork in hand.

I fly Rooks because the vast majority of people I flew with in AWFR as Bz are Rooks in AH. We know each other, we like each other, we've flown as teammates for up to 15 years together. We all know what each other are good at and capable of and play well as a team together in combat. That's pretty much what kept AWFR fun and keeps AH fun...Rooks is kind of like one HUGE, GIGANTIC squadron for us old timers, the success of RJO back-in the day is a tribute to this phenomena.

Been Bish from the time I started ( 7-11-03 ) and have never changed. became a BOP and have never wanted to change. Bish have some problems but I would guess all 3 countries do.

I have played for extended periods on each of the three sides at various points since I started.
Rooks, Kights, and Bish each have their share of the following (in no particular order): alt-potatos, dweebs, hoarde-monkeys, HO-tards, good sticks, newbies, luftwhiners, runstangs, roach drivers, flakpotatos, napoleans, exhibitionistic autofelatio practitioners, witty people, half-wits, niki dweebs, spitpotatos, crack monkeys, buff dweebs, score potatos, strat-geeks, nice guys, jerks, helpful people, alt-f4 lemmings, al gore rehash jokers, festabria bobbers, bearded clams, numbers geeks, suicide porkers, whiners, nazis, liberals, conservatives, jap-laggers, warpers, kill stealers, vulchers, twits, furballers, freeballers, sissy mary runners, wash-rinse-repeat "ACM" guys, cherry pickers, BnZ girls, stick-stirrers, el gay seven drivers, humble guys, pile-its, drunks, quiet guys, pubescent quakers, amish technophiles, dorks, jug tards, hellcrap dweebs, run-oh-nines, run-nineties, backwards firing typhoons, f-pork-u's, pee-fifty-runs, hunstangs, goon drivers, goon augerers, gv guys, l337 d00d's, campers, chute shooters, chute shooter whiners, Hartmann wannabees, Gabreski/Johnson wannabees, Rick James wannabees, Drex wannabees, Bong wannabees, bong smokers, "cheaters," cheaters, cable modem cable pullers, engine togglers, carbombers, milk-runners, insane-guys-who-jump-into-the-middle-of-fights-in-a-Ju 87 or 88-and-actually-shoot-everyone-down, beefdarts, lawndarts, Texans, inbreds, you're-a-peein's, Californicators, Kalifornians, Mavericks, Icemans, Sliders, overly sensitive '80s men, etc.
Sooner or later, you will fall into one of the above groups. The secret is to not really care if you are in one or even which group you are in.
Posted a long time ago, still relavent to Aces High today.
