Post by: DrDea on February 22, 2006, 10:18:45 PM
Ok I screwed up.I made a HUGE mistake in getting an ATI card.its an Xtasy 9200 256 meg card and I cant fond drivers that work with it on AH.Im changing drivers for every time I wanna play AH or COD or BF2.Whats the BEST driver for AH2 on the 9200 ati card?

I swear I'll never buy another ATI card. Its Nvidia all the way.

1st question why a 9200 ... the 9550 256 will run circles around it for 20 bucks more .. (it uses the same gpu as the 9600 pro )

well since your on a 9200 try using the 4.12 cats ... if they dont work then try the 4.3 or 4.7's  those are the best 3 drivers for the 9xxx series ATI cards.

The 9200 is most likely rebadged 90's videocard. Don't expect to get warp drive for $30. :p

The 9200 is the old 8500, repackaged.  If you are going to go with a low-end card, NVidia is better.  ATI's low-end cards are too expensive for the performance they provide.

Ive had the card for over a year now,Just never got the drivers to work right with it.Black dots for radar images of planes instead of red or green.I figgured someone had to know more about the drivers on ATI since Ive always used Nvidia.

The Catalyst 4.12 drivers will cure the 'black' dot issue.
Title: ATI Radeon X1600 Pro
Post by: Sketch on February 23, 2006, 04:44:40 PM
Just installed a ATI Radeon X1600 Pro video card. When I try to start AH2 I get the Microsoft Error window telling me I need to send it in and such.... I have tried doing a full reinstall of AH and still getting it.... All the old drivers are gone and card is working. Any help??

Have the drivers from ATI's sight as well as the CD that came with the card....  I click the AH logo, get a black screen and then the Error Message from Microsoft....
:furious

I was looking at those x1600s at best buy the other day.  Seem like a lot of card for not a huge amount of dough

Did you go AGP or PCIe?

I have read on DriverHeaven that the current crop of ATI drivers leave alot to be desired.  New technology, new teething pains.  Nvidia went through this last year with their drivers for the 6600 and 6800s.  I've also seen problems with that specific card on reviews done by HardOCP and anandtech.  All the problems COULD be driver related (and in my mind probably are).  End result is right now you can buy a last generation Geforce 6800 and blow the x1600 out of the water.  For how long is anyone's guess.

I tried renaming it to just video.cfg among other names and when I start the game I get the same outcome, Microsoft Error Report.  And when I check the Setting folder I have the old 'video8.cfg' file as whatever I named it and then a NEW video8.cfg file? :O
This is driving me nuts... have tried other games and it works fine, it is just AH.

LePaul~ I went AGP, I am new to the whole upgrading part. Before I just got everything new but was having problem with frame rates and such dropping.  Need a little more punch.  Once I get back to the states I will build an entire new system.
