Somehow you forgot to quote this:
The maximum sentence for insulting religious beliefs under the German criminal code is three years in prison.

How so? I found it amazing that free speech wasn't allowed in this case.
-
There are limits to free speech even in this country.

Somehow? Its a crime either way, whether its one day in jail, or 3 years, who cares! Should it be illegal to express your freedom of expression? I suppose it is in Germany...:huh

I don't recall an artist in the US getting a sentence for dropping a cross into urine...or the Virgin Mary portrait covered in animal crap...oh but that was Art! ;)

I can see why you'd be interested, Rip. Toilet paper with a message on it - very useful for people who make a habit of talking out of their arse.
-
And you have no clue as to why in germany one they would have strict laws against religions/ethnicity issues. right.

I've heard that they have a history of extremism.

This seems more like harassment then free speech.
While that guy who put the crucifix in urine is a D-Bag, he was in no way making copies of it and sending it to every church around the nation.

Rather he used mass media exposure and profitted from it. Yeah, no different. :huh

I believe another cross cultural flame war is starting. those euros are clearly nowhere near as free as we are, we can wipe with what ever we desire. American judges cannot legislate what our bathrooms can or can't be stocked with.

I wonder if Satanic cults in Germany could get Catholics arrested for insulting Satan?

It was for insulting "Islam" apparently they are knuckling under to their new masters. I think more out of fear than anything else. I doubt if insulting any other religion would get the same response.

Warning! This is news you might never have heard of!
Teh werld != USA.

No.
I think there are rules by which religious groups have to 'prove' that they are in fact a religion. If you meet the (obfuscated) criteria you can force schools to teach your flavor of religion (among the others), get support by the feds and can call yourself a religion.
Only very few 'cults' match these criteria, Islam and the Christian churches being examples. Satanists, "Jedi" or Scientology for that matter are not recognized as religions and, therefore are not protected by those laws.
It all looks good on paper, however, Scientology wasnt yet able to get that status and their rejection looks very much like a double standard - maybe with good reason, but still..
The bottomline is: the sentence looks out of proportion, i dont think printing the same thing with Jesus on your paper will get you into jail here.. but then to be convicted requires someone to actually drag you into court and perhaps christians around here couldnt care less if someone prints "evil things" on their toilet paper.
