Title: Help with Squadron Nose Art
Post by: StracCop on February 24, 2006, 12:13:34 AM
Can someone help me?
I can't figure can't where I went wrong.

I followed the instructions and attempted to get the logo to be on a transparent background, not on a big grey square.  The background is 127-127-127 as required in the instructions but it isn't diaplaying on our planes properly?

Any ideas that I can try?  Thanks!

Here's the logo:

Its background is 127,127,127  ... which is also correct .

now for my next question .....

Did you just upload your nose art tonight ???

If thats the case it wont show up in the arena's until its reviewed by htc 1st ...
(this may take a day or so )

Thanks for the replies guys.  :)

I uploaded it some time ago.  Maybe 2 weeks ago.
I know that its already been approved as it appears on our planes and is present on the squad roster page.

http://www.hitechcreations.com/cgi-bin/squads/ahsquads.pl?arena=0&squad=96Delta

I'm just bewildered by this problem.
I've seen other squad logos that had a transparent background so I know its possible.  I guess the instructions are leaving something out or I messed something up.

I hope someone can point me to the answer....

Thanks again for trying to help.  :)

it needs to be 8 bit, 256 colour bitmap. that's probably why it wont show

And when you save the bitmap and compess it, you need to make sure grey 127,127,127 is one of the colors. My first squad art had the same problem, and it was because the grey was off just a hair when it was saved. You have to go in and edit the colors when you save it at 8bit 256color sometimes..

Good stuff. Let me try again.
I'll let you know how it works out. :)

I played around with it and it still looks like its got a background of 127-127-127.  Its 256 colors and that makes it 8-bit.  Finally, its 64x64.

Here is the final result.
I'll upload this later from my game machine and see if it works.
I sure wish there were a way to test it before though.
Still, the background doesn't look too different than whats up there now.  We'll see.

Here's the new version.

Here's the version where the transparancy isn't working.

BTW, I'm using Photoshop 5.5 for this.
Here's the .psd file is anyone wants to investigate this further or play around with it for me.  :)
Its small, only 28.5 Kb.

Wish me luck... ;-)

127, 127, 127 doesn't seem to work.

I use just the basic white in MS paint. Every bit you paint white will show as transparant on the a/c skin.

Don't know why, it just is.

This has been discussed many times before. You can try the white, or do a search in the bbs here for more info. But it will work.

goodluck and cheers,
RTR

Hi guys,

Thanks for all the suggestions.
I just wanted to close this thread with the final resolution.

To get a transparent background for your nose art the correct RGB value is 176.

Red: 176
Green: 176
Blue: 176

This will produce a light gray color.
This color will be transparent on your plane/vehicle nose art.

Thanks again for the help! :)
