Does this ever happen to you?
Your cruising along happily playing the game, Chatting on and listening to vox over your headset at a comfortable volume with everyone pretty much at the same volume and the conversations are going something like this
"rgr that. WTG on that spitty. Watch it. looks like we have soemthing inbound from the north"
"rgr on the northern bogies.grabbing"
and everything is going great when all of a sudden your forced to rip your headset off your head in an emergancy like move someone comes over Vox sounding more like
CONS SPOTTED TO THE NORTH COMMING THIS WAY
At a volume of nearly eardrum busting levels.
Gives almost an entire new meaning to the term "LOUD and clear"
Good God! isnt there a way to adjust the volume so that everyones Vox comes in at the same volume no matter what they have their transmit volume set at??
Doesnt happen often but when it does it can be very startling to say the least.
I have pretty good hearing.
I'd like to be able to keep it that way for as long as I can LMAO

i have asked about this a long time ago... something like a built in compresser in the coad.
some type of normalizing coad that regulates volume to the point in falls between a threshold. say if input > XXX then reduce to xxx
make a top and bottom threshold, so all vox is between.
i don't know how hard it would be, but would be a great feature.

Even better if we could have a frequency squelch.. so that anyone high pitched enough to disturb neighborhood dogs would get filtered.
Or, if they wont filter it, at least move it down a few octaves!

Yes, please, a frequency modulator, a flux capacitor something please

As long as it filters out The Lollipop Squad...I'm happy. :D

My fav. vox trick is pointing out a con and 5 seconds later the same con is pointed out by a few others on vox.

We've had a few on channel, especially kids that insist on using vox even though we've asked them to type. In most cases, the squelch gets used quite a bit. It would be nice to see (or hear) some form of auto-volume control in the game

i use normal speakers and wear headset with mic around my neck.had eardrums blown out long ago at Heavy Metal concerts so i know what ya mean Dreidock.I am all for some sort of fix for this.

wasnt me.

Couldn't agree more. Seems like about 40% of the time I can barely hear a players vox and 5% of the time the eardrums get blown out - and of course the complete loss of vox that always seems to occur 1 minute into a mission I'm trying to run.
On an off topic, why so much variance? I'm familar with the in game settings but does the soundcard or onboard sound have much of an impact? I'm guessing the type of mic is a factor.
-
Isn't the problem really that the loud guy is the only one who has his xmit vox setup properly and nearly everyone else has their mic volume set too low or the +20db boost option not checked? Many people are barely audible even with the vox play volume on high.
I occasionally tune one radio channel to my own handle. That way I can transmit a test vox and hear my own voice as a mic check, so to speak.

Never heard a vox that was really loud.
But the ones that speak that really hurt my ears is those that their voices sound like they were kicked in the nuts. That and pipz singing, my ears are bleeding after pipz sings.
-
alot of players don't know they can tune to thier own name so they can hear thier own vox and adjust it accordingly...i tell people this all the time...most mics are set too low.
RGR OVER

50% of people in AH vox are "okay" levels for me, the other 50% are too dang quiet. This is WITH vox turned all the way up in AH settings, *AND* reports from 3rd party pilots say that those I hear at reduced levels can be heard perfectly fine by others.
Does anybody know why this is? I have a PCI SB Audigy (Audigy1), using 2.1 speaker setup of Boston BA735 speakers on a digital speaker-out line.

i do that too, i wish i could find a decent throat mic so as not to keep getting my mouth-mic covered in mayo and salsa sauce.
for me its been 8 years of listing and mixing/producing club music .

It'd also be really nice to have the ability to have a permanent squelch list. One you could put someone on and have the squelch last between logins. I've had it on other games. Doesn't seem like it would be that hard for this one.

Gotcha 10X10

I thought you were going to mention the prox vox blabermouths. Holy smokes, some of them lads just wont put a sock in it.
Less is more.

ahh yes the ole WOOOOWOOOOO! i have it mastered hehe..my bad

I am regularly told my vox is very quiet using AH Voice, yet when I use Skype to talk in Second Life I'm asked to push my mike away as I'm too loud. Can't please everyone.... :lol

Another problem is that some people don't realize how much their mic picks up what's coming out of their speakers. When the input of your voice is matched - and even overpowered - by the P-47 engine droning out of your cranked up 5.1 Dolby surround system, the result is severe distortion. Nothing like the voice of a screaming pre-adolescent distorted like an angry Dalek.
