Title: Norton Anti-V issues
Post by: Enduro on February 25, 2006, 12:20:29 PM
Let me ask you Norton users, if I may.  Are you having any problems loading Office programs or - in my case - experiencing a long shut-down for WindowsXP when you have Norton's running?

On one PC, Microsoft Word won't load...it requests a virus scan and hangs--have to force a shutdown and reboot.  And, on my PC, WinXP shut downs sometimes take up to 2 minutes.

I'm guessing a recent Norton's update screwed something up.  Wanted to see if anyone else in the AH community has the problem, too.

Thanks!

(I'm using Norton Internet Security 2005 - Antispyware Edition)

Considering a switch to AVG or some other anti-virus program.  Suggestions appreciated.

I have heard of a number of problems with Norton 2005.  Seems to be ongoing issues as well.

I've never had any problems with Norton Internet Security 2005. I feel like I'm the only one. :noid

The only information I have about any anti-virus program is what I get from all our players.  I never use them due to how intrusive they normally are.  For me, it is just a waste of resources.

My approach on viruses is to just have my security set so it makes it very difficult for a virus to get to my computer, and then avoid doing the things which invite viruses onto my computer.

I've had absoloutly no issues with Norton. I don't even turn it off during AH online. I have both XP and Norton auto updates turned off.

The same is true for me and I've never experienced a problem.
