Jason McElwain, an autistic high school basketball team member in Rochester NY, served as the coach's assistant and spirit leader for several years. On the final game of the season the coach let him finally put on a jersey with the rest of the team. Watch what happens then...
-
Was this the kid that hit 6 3-pointers in the final 2 minutes of the game? (Can't open link, as I'm working)
-
Yeah, that's the kid. I don't have a soundcard at work, but it looked pretty exciting even w/o audio.
A friend sent me the link, I was concerned that it was going to be some sort of flame against autistic kids. I'm glad he proved me wrong.

They had a 1 minute spot on the local news last night. Heart-warming news story. :aok
-
Thats awsome!
-
WTFG, kid...:aok
...and to his coach, for seeing to it that this kid's got a memory of a lifetime.
-
Amazing.
Then again, why *shouldn't* an autistic kid who's been helping train a B-ball team have a good game? Some autistic kids I know are able to intensely focus on things that they care about, and this kid really cared about hoops, so maybe it shouldn't suprise anyone that after a few first-shot jitters, he entered "the zone" and did really well?
Anyhow, nice film clip. I wonder if anyone else will give him a chance to really play... I sure hope so.
Remind anyone of Forrest Gump? Maybe he'll get a BBall college scholarship :)
-
That was great. Thanks for posting it.:aok

that's really a great story!:)
-
Chills running down my back how supportive the crowd was!!
This outdoes that football one.
-
Thanx...it made my day. His 20 points was something, but the reaction of those high school kids was really outstanding.
-
Awesome. Great stuff. Thanks.
-
Link says movie not available? Am I the only one getting this error?
-
I just checked for you seagoon, and it says not available...
-
Seagoon (and others) I think you will find the same clip in the middle of this page: game footage (http://www.wpxi.com/sports/7398385/detail.html)
you'll enjoy this

I saw it on the news as well. Great story about a great success for this kid. I did wonder if the coach later kicked himself in the butt for not having put that kid in games earlier in the season. Can you imagine the season they could have had if the kid played like that in several games!

saw this on the good morning america the other day... very cool.

Thanks for going out of your way to post a link to that, I appreciated getting to see it. Kind of the 1 minute version of Rudy.
It makes me wonder if he might get some calls from college recruiters because of this..

No. He's still the manager for the team, even after graduating.
The stories actually a little old. I saw it on HBO many months ago, and even then the story was old. It's just been making the rounds on the internet recently.

If the link at the top of the page wont work for anyone you can see the same one here

Nice story. He reminds me of the actor who played in Titanic.
-
A co-worker was watching this video the other day and told us what it was about, then told us he went to that high-school. Small world.
