Title: newbie question
Post by: calan on February 27, 2006, 03:33:09 PM
hi all..  AH newbie here.

Is there any way to set up AH with unlimited ammo and easy flight characteristics, so that a kiddo can just fly around offline shooting things?

thanks much!

Welcome to Aces High.

Nope - all arenas are set for Full Realism tho you can check  the "stall limiter" option box in flight setup and fly any Spitfire for some almost foolproof yank & banking.

Offline mode arena set-up values can be modified for less/more lethality in terms of buildings and drone, and the ammo load out can also be tweked up. This is accomplished by way of changing those values.

Calan, email me at the link below, let me know what type of flying conditions you would like to have Offline, and I will send you the proper settings and how to get to them.

while I'm at it...   is there an FAQ entry somewhere that explains all the acronyms you guys are using?

MA, DA etc. ...  I can guess at "something arena" on these... but would be nice if there is a glossary somewhere....
:)

tks mucho

Have great fun with that, Calan. My kid started that way, and my nephew still loves to try shooting the drones.

But it isnt jsut for the kids... leaving the ammo count high and the rest of the settings unchanged is great for your own gunnery and deflection practice. I still ahve my offline ammo at soemthing like 100x., so I dont ahve to climb out each time I go bingo.

But watch out...a couple years later, my kid turned into a teen, and he got his own AH account. His first month he had a higher hit%, higher kill per hour, and better TnB skill level than his dear old dad. After a ocuple months, he's moved on to Battelfield 2 -- but the addcition will be back, I have no doubt.

A great resource for this (and for lots else) is netaces.com. the site has lots of helps for starting out, including a very nice one page printable chart with all the default keyboard commands.

AS I recall, there is also a glossary of our lingo.

If there isnt, let me know and I bet  we can throw one together.

tks simaril...

Actually, I'm having fun just trying to shoot the drones myself, but I run out of ammo after like 20 seconds...  the clouds are all dead, but the drone is still flying.  :lol

I've been playing the high tech modern flight sims for a few years (ADF22, Lock-on, etc.). It's a fun wake up call to forget all the BVR crap, climb into a prop plane and try to spray lead into someone.

I've got a pretty cool car/flight cockpit that I built, with air actuators and bass shakers to add some movement and stuff to PC or Playstation games. Doesn't make me any better, but it's way more fun to get shot or crash a car.

I'm anxious to figure out how to set up these offline settings for a bit more arcade-like fun for both me and my son...  I'll be online eventually though. Just have to get used to analog gauges and a pipper instead of digital readouts and radar/EMCON  ;)

If your flying in the offline arena planes dont die easy. They will fly with one wing.

calan, go to setup on clipboard. then go to settings, environment, arena settings...

there is a list of factors that you can change, including gun lehtality and ammo load.

the ammo load is planegunammomult

good luck!

I'm sure if you respond to Rocs offer, third posting in this thread, he'll be able to show you exactly what settings need to be changed to achieve your desire.

How old is your son? Mine is 10 and does pretty well in Aces High.  We really enjoy flying together. Then again he was late with a book report last month so he is off the computer for a week. :D That is one good thing about getting you son hooked on Aces High, you have some thing to pull when he slacks off.

LMAO

He's 6..  err...  just turned 7.... I pull his Playstation priveledges now :lol

He's a great kid though... doesn't put up too much of a fight when it's time to clean the room or if I think he's been on a game too long. And since he's doing really well in school, I don't hassle him too much.

He started flying my old ADF22 sim when he had just turned 4. He actually learned really fast and could keep it in the air and manuver really well, although that game is really easy to fly anyway... but still... he was 4 so I was proud of him.

There was a glitch in the posting a few minutes ago.  I ended up with a double post on another thread.  Maybe that's what happened to Kid Viper.

And Calan, one hint on gunnery.....

Get up close and personal. Anything further out then 400 yards (see icon) is luck. Optimal shooting range is 150-250. (Depending on convergence).

If you need any more help, ASK :).

Also, you have a 2-week free trial. If you want to you can log into the training arena (kind of "relaxed realism" since damage is off) where youll find members of the TRainer Corps as well as helpful longtime players that can get you familiar with the game and its interface. Or just play "target drone" ;).

Welcome to Aces High Calan.

Welcome Calan

Hope you enjoy the game and people here. Training Arena when you get your account is a great place to learn basics. Schatzi is really good to learn with as well.

Calan,

Really interested in how the setup is working out for the little one.

Hope it's going well.

Like I said, when you get comfortable tweaking stuff, let me know, I'll show you some more tricks :)

Thanks guys!

I've pretty much got the GUI figured out I think. Haven't played with a lot of the settings, but they seem straight forward enough.

I got into the TA last night and flew around for a while in the Spit9. Finally got my x45 set up the way I wanted, and got a mic hooked up.

Had a blast, even with 3 one-point crash landings in a row. :lol (Where the hell are my ILS HUD and sidescan radars when I need them?)

I'm sure I'll run into you guys soon...  probably literally  ...  :)
