Title: Elevation Map Questions
Post by: Bullethead on February 27, 2006, 03:54:25 PM
Please tell me how to make this work.  When I try to import it, the elevations I end up with never match what I drew on the bmp file.

Here's what I'm doing:
1.  Create new terrain, exit
2.  Restart TE, export map.
3.  Edit resulting bmp file.  Have tried leaving it at 24-bit and also 256 color.  For some reason, 256 doesn't do anything, whereas the 24-bit gives me strange elevations.  Looks like all colors on the bmp are shades of gray, as in same number for R, G, and B values.
4.  Import edited bmp file.
5.  Hit Water Not 0 to select all the high spots.  Set terrain type to grass for all of them at once.  All vertexes now OK.
6.  Exit and re-open

Any help would be appreciated.

Aces High 1,2 uses for the elivation short int, eg. 16 bits. Your best to go with bmp format of 16 bits.

Thanks.  I couldn't find what I was looking for in the clutter when I tried searching.  Same goes with lookin for tutorials on the various editors, including an overview of some of the things you can do with them that ain't obvious.  I ain't touched any of these editors in several years and have since killed all the braincells that knew anything about them.
