Title: we were all noobs...but, c'mon
Post by: ridley1 on February 27, 2006, 08:08:43 PM
for the 2 week trial....can HT suggest that you at least familiarize yourself with the game off line first?

We were all noobs..but I mean... at least  learned how to take off before going on line and asking people how to do that.

Actually I didn't.  I jumped online and augered repeatedly:lol   Luckily I had was introduced to the game by some who already played Warbirds and AH so they helped me out tremendously.

You could spend a few minutes with these players or tell them about the 'help' channel that exists in game.  It would have taken less time than to log out and post.

I too have been frustrated by the 'noob' but have learned that it takes less time to answer a few questions and help them out than it does telling them to 'go find a trainer' or 'go to the TA'.

skernsk...I'll answer all questions that I can, too....

but please, some of these guys coming on don't even know how to fire guns.

There's enough chatter on the radio without having to deal with that.

it took me two months of offline playing to figure out how to get the plane to move (i didnt have a joystick and the manual is for yellow bellies.) i crashed on takeoff a grand total of 4 times and never again after that.

I started my piloting days by practising in WB 2.xx offline untill I could confidently shoot the drones down. Helped a lot into moving to online arena.

A couple of days ago, just after a take off, I've been chased and strafed by a brand new fellow Knight. He eventually died before I could type something on the country channel.

P.S.: I made the same thing the first time I managed to enter the AW arena some 10 years ago ;)

I think he called you a dork morpheus.  But don't quote me on that.  Or maybe he was calling me a dork, either way he was calling somebody names.  I think that rule #4 has been violated and immediate action should be taken.

You have 8000 posts to his 9, I'd call it post-is envy.

Revor I'm not sure what your problem is but you always seem to have an "edge" to what you say. Both here and in game, at least thats the way I'm seeing it.

I havn't figured out why.

Somehow you got off on the wrong foot around here, please do NOT take this the wrong way. I'm not critizising, complaining, or putting you down.

I'd just like to have a chance to hear what you say without the anger or the chip on your shoulder.

As to the 2 week wonders, well they keep getting younger, brasher, and harder to deal with. But the fact remains, they just want to fly like everyone else.

They just need to be educated a bit as to how to go about that. And after all, isn't that what a community is about?

Newbie starts asking questions my standard reply is "Welcome to AH may I
suggest you read HELP and note DOT/KEY commands".

Newbie still asks questions I then reply "Spend 30 min reading HELP save 3 days of asking question".

Newbie still asks question I do the dot squelch newbietosser.

I think 2 in every hundred actually take my advice

I've been playing since 2003 and this is the first I've ever heard of the help channel... Clearly its not well advertised...

I'd wager that is a big part of the problem.

In regards to the original topic of this post...

There is nothing more rewarding in the game, besides maybe a killer 1v1 fight, than helping a newbie and having him see the difference right away when he gets into the MA. I'm talkin acm wise, dog fighting... whatever.. Still, good stuff.

First flight in AW I took off and immediatly blew my load of ammo on a green guy.Missed everyshot.he laughed at me and then gave me the low down on the game.I never forgot that.I offer help when I can because I was that stupid moron at one time and pass along the favor.Your not obliged to do that yourself if you read every word of text and needed no help on your first online flight.Otherwise if you want a good comunity, give a damn now and then.

What surprises me is how many kids show up after the ad's on the History Channell.

I mean, really, I'm an old fart, who would have thought these teenyboppers Watched the History Channell!! I, for One, am impressed, and considering they have half a clue enough to watch and educational program will go out of my way to bring them along and show them the ropes.

It's all about perspective I guess.

Yes, we all were noobs once....lol

The other day I saw 2 noobs run down my bombers and after one shot half his loadout "POOF", I chuckled with my squaddies about it for a second then here he was again! Talk about dedication!

This time the other guy jumped in and tried to help him out and "POOF POOF"

It was classic!    :rofl

On his 3rd approach, I said on Range their names and said... "If you would put half the effort into shooting the guys in red instead of the guys in green, you will go far in this game"

It cracks me up to see noobs at 1st, but part of the fun is watching the noobs grow into decient sticks.

:aok
