Hi All,
Just got an email sent to me that is going around the 82nd guys here, and probably far afield as well.
In it a local PFC, following his training, silently signals with his left hand, that an oppressive and anti-American government power has coerced him into doing something against his will.
On a more serious note, this fellow is no doubt going to end up having several "interesting" conversations with his superiors.

No Ping, I don't hate Hillary at all.
I don't like socialism, government run health care, or a host of other things she does, and while there are plenty of ideologies, worldviews, and sins (gasp, I used that awful outdated word) I detest, I don't hate people.
Regarding the photo, it is apparently from Thanksgiving 2003. Here is the write up from Snopes, sorry I'll Snope the message first before I post it next time - please forgive me.
Claim: Photograph shows soldier shaking hands with Sen. Hillary Clinton while crossing his fingers.
Status: True.
Example: [Collected on the Internet, 2004]
Origins: Military history includes many instances when soldiers who fell into the hands of the enemy were trotted out before photographers or television cameras by their captors for purposes of propaganda: — to create false images intended to trick audiences into believing that the prisoners were actually well-cared for, sympathized with their captors, or were voluntarily denouncing the political policies of their home countries. Likewise, military history includes many instances in which such captured soldiers managed to inserted subtle and furtive signs into propagandistic images to express their defiance, to indicate that the information they were relaying was false, or to signal that they were acting under duress. (One of the most well-known examples of this phenomenon is the infamous middle finger gesture employed by the crew of the USS Pueblo in photographs after their ship was captured by North Korea in 1968.)
The gesture of crossing one's fingers is not unique to the military, of course; it is an ages-old symbol used to indicate that the finger-crosser does not mean what he is saying or is being compelled to act through coercion. (A typical kiddie trick is to surreptitiously cross one's fingers behind one's back while making a promise, a token that supposedly shields the finger-crosser from the obligation of upholding the terms of his oath.) The implication of the photograph shown above (which began circulating on the Internet in early 2004 and was taken at one of the military facilities New York senator Hillary Clinton visited in Iraq during the Thanksgiving 2003 holidays), then, is that despite the smiling faces and friendly hand-shaking captured in the picture, the soldier is communicating that he is not really all that pleased to be meeting Senator Clinton.
The "not really all that pleased" assessment is evidently accurate — although the picture originally appeared without any accompanying text, and the "coercion" caption was only added later to make the humor of the photograph more explicit — as the soldier pictured with Senator Clinton (who asked that we not identify him by name) told us that he employed the gesture to indicate that he was not a fan of the senator's and was not as appreciative of having the opportunity to meet (and pose with) her as it might otherwise appear.

OK. You may not Hilary personaly, but it does say something about your political views.
"My kingdom is not part of this world, If my kingdom were part of this world, my attendants would have fought that I should not be delivered up [snip] "
You know the Scripture Seagoon. Jesus wanted no part of the political spectrum nor does any part of the bible encourage christians to get involved in the political process.
You were making a statement against Hillary. Pure and simple. She is a political beast and you have an agenda contrary to what she may stand for.

Wow, did it take your more then half a second to come to that Brilliant conclusion? Just because he is a pastor does not mean he does not have a right to his views, hell he even gets to vote.

Im calling on Seagoon here.
I'll respond to your main point in a moment, but I did want to address this one first. Actually, on a number of occasions I've posted to the board about what is going on in my life or discussed my background at length, I try to be as transparent as possible here, I also don't have any hidden agendas, only open and upfront ones. I try simply to be honest and forthright and hopefully gracious.
Addmittedly most of the time the threads I reply to are ones about religion or politics. There are several reasons for that. First, generally speaking politics is the main topic of discussion around here, and eventually invades even non-political threads, so getting caught up in political discussions is going to be somewhat inevitable if you post in the O'Club.
Secondly, I don't follow any sports anymore (I was a big Premier League Soccer fan in the 90's but got burnt out), AH2 is the only online game I play, I don't have time to tinker with cars anymore, and I don't have any big regional or national loyalty to post about, and I'm getting too old and unhip to bother following pop culture really closely. So most of the "other threads" that get started I'm really unlikely to post to.
I do occasionally post about things non-political or religious things I have an interest in when they show up, hunting, guns, military history, the occasional "beverage" thread and so on, but frankly they are few and far between (heck, I can't even remember seeing a cigar thread for instance). And there are a lot of topics posted on (programming, engineering, electronics, etc.) where the other members of the board know quite a bit more about them, so while I read them, I don't post on them because I don't want to be talking out of a portion of my anatomy not designed for speaking. I only try to post on things I've read about and/or had experience with, and try not to form hard and fast opinions and disseminate them about things I do not. And lets face it, some of the threads are just not the kind of threads Pastors should be posting to.
Now if I've said or if say something mean, hateful, or sinful to another member of the board you can feel free to call me on it, and hopefully I'll apologize and repent. But on the other hand Ping, if you just don't like what I say, and wish I'd go away, then you are just one of probably several hundred million.
But I sense this may be in vain because you've simply labeled me "religious right nutjob" and having labeled me and put me in the appropriate box are simply out to prove that your classification is correct and that everything I do and says goes through that filter. Friend, I want to suggest that you don't know me at all if I'm simply a media stereotype to you.
Oh, and yeah, I just posted it because it was humorous. I hang out with soldiers and ex-soldiers pretty much 7 days a week, they thought it was funny too, that's why one of them sent it to me.

I must be missing something. I thought it was just a funny picture, with a tongue-in-cheek dig at Queen Hil...I mean...Senator Clinton.
Way to leap right off that cliff, tho...

When I talk about politics here, I am speaking as a private citizen and merely discussing my opinions. I am not preaching, and I don't remember prefixing the Hillary photo with "This is the Word of the Lord..."
Regarding keeping the two spheres of Caesar's kingdom and Christ's separated, and not having the state take over matters of faith or the church legislate for the state, I absolutely believe in that principle and decry any attempt at Constantinianism.
I hope you won't mind if I refer you to another post here a while ago in which I spelled out my position on preaching politics from the pulpit or in the courts of the church, just scroll down to the post with: Preachers and Politics (http://www.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=148705&perpage=40&highlight=Preachers%20and%20Politics&pagenumber=2) in the middle
On the other hand I happen to strongly believe that Christians as private citizens are called to be good citizens and part of the normal political process of any state, and that it is not sinful for them to vote, to serve as magistrates, or soldiers, or policemen, or government employees. The confession I subscribed to when I was ordained explicitly makes that point:
"It is lawful for Christians to accept and execute the office of a magistrate, when called thereunto:[1] in the managing whereof, as they ought especially to maintain piety, justice, and peace, according to the wholesome laws of each commonwealth;...[2]"
1. Gen. 41:39-43; Neh. 12:26; 13:15-31; Dan. 2:48-49; Prov. 8:15-16; Rom. 13:1-4
2. Psa. 2:10-12; 82:3-4; I Tim. 2:2; II Sam. 23:3; I Peter 2:13
Romans 13:1-7 and 1 Peter 2:13-17 explicitly spells out that individual Christians are to be good citizens, law abiding, and tax paying and to do their civic duty towards the state, which in a representative Democracy includes of course the responsibility of voting or serving in office when called to it.
Now on an entirely different topic, am I going to have write a theological essay everytime I post a silly photo here? 'Cause after a while, this kind of thing is going to be a massive disincentive to posting anything. Just be up front and say, "I don't think you should post here, go away" if that is your honest opinion.

I apreciate your posts, far more then the guys here who stalk you like ack ack.
It sad that rail on your for being a fantic, but they come off as being fanitacl about hating religion.
Oh so tolerant of them.

I hate it when religion get mixed up with politics.
It is a combination potentional to terror.
Anyway jesus was a conservative liberal who wanted medical treathment only for the one who can pay.

Heh, this thread reminded me of something the guest on the Colbert Report said last night. Something to the extent of "mixing politics and religion is like mixing ice cream and horse crap. The ice cream doesn't hurt the horse crap at all, but the ice cream is ruined by the manure."
ed: found it. Tony Campolo interview near the bottom.

Ping,
Don't take it personally, but nice stalker headshot. Seriously. Do you wait for seagoon to post stuff while plotting how to turn whatever he posts into some sort of immoral attack against whatever, or did you just wake up and notice that seagoon had posted, and felt you just had to "do something!"?
Seriously, it's creepy how seagoon posted something fairly innocuous (if old) and such a short time later you jump on him for being a hatemonger. Dude, if you have nothing relevant to say, maybe try abstaining or simply not reading or posting to seagoon initiated threads unless you have a little content to add. And give up the BBS stalking thing.
Oh yea, I almost forgot...

Funny photo...I'm not sure why there was a need for an in-depth analysis of Seagoon. As for HC, I'm not sure I could hold back my gag reflex long enough to shake her hand. She's nothing but a slimey politician as far as I'm concerned.
-
SOB, your talking about the Democratic frontrunner for the President of the US in 2008 there.
Show a little respect, please. Be excited and positive at least.
Or your going to get into trouble, amigo.
-
I think I hate you more than HC. :p
-
Wow SOB, that's a whole lot of hate. You even send the double hate message of a frowny face AND a smiley face, which means hate behind a smiley so nobody can really figure out how much (exactly) you hate.
Impressive.
:huh   :( :aok
-
she looks like a cardboard cut-out with that plastered smile and bug eye look ... she looks really at ease there .. lol
my bet is her fingers are crossed on her left hand as well....
-
Shucks Seagoon, there I thought he was giving her the well deserved finger until I read the snopes thing.
O, and keep posting, while I'm agnostic I do hear the message that you are trying to convey.
To bad a lot of others won't understand until their daughters ( or maybe granddaughters) are wearing cloth over their faces

I am sure there is at least one dude in this thread who would hit it....
