I'm new to AH, though not to flight sims. Ahh...the days of Aces Over the Pacific....
I always thought my modem (I live in God's country, no DSL) would prevent me from being able to play a flight sim online. I saw the AH free 2 weeks and took a chance...wow...I'm glad i did.
And then I was really impressed. Having played several MMO's (Eve Online, WoW, etc) and the occasional FPS (using my work's T-1) I was prepared for "l33t sp33k" and supurfluous profanity....but to my astonishment I was greeted with professionalism and maturity.
So if you see the name Republic in the skies near you, give me a shout.

welcome to AH bud!
check out the training arena when you log in, there is a very steep learning curve to this net crack, and finding a trainer in there will help you on your way:aok
and, there is leet speak here, but it is either a joke or retarded teens, either way, it's funny :D

Welcome Republic,
Profanity is filtered out of the text buffer, but you may see some l33t sp33k (which, I think, is more often sarcasm), but overall, most are great guys in a great community.
Enjoy your association with this game, and, again, Welcome!

It's teasingly called "Aces Crack" for a reason.
I'd played some boxed sims, like Their Finest Hour and Euaropean Air War. I didnt do that well, but had no idea why. honestly gave up on the genre.
Then my brother introduced me to AH. I've played for 2 years now (really -- this is my 24th tour!), and I've not wanted to paly any other computer game.
When i started, I stank putridly, but I slowly learned the "why" and improved. (Noe I'm good enough that it only takes antipersperant and a little cologne to cover up the rankness.) Looking back, I wish i had taken more advantge of the trainers and the Dueling Arena learning opportunities to sahorten the learning time.
You'll meet some interesting, quality people from literally all over the world; you'll have soem great sonversations; you'll work your way up a skill learning curve that makes golf look like Candyland. Theres nothing like it.
Dont get discouraged when you cant get anywhere -- just look for soem help, and you'll be surprised to see that even the "famous" names will take time to show you some stuff.

wouldn't worry too much about the dialup connection, we have several dialup squaddies and they regurlarly kick booty
