Title: Guitar Hero
Post by: Sandman on February 28, 2006, 08:08:04 PM
My son was going on and on about this game (http://www.guitarherogame.com/) and then my neighbor showed up one night with it.

We played it that once and then I ordered one also.

My kids love it even though there's nothing to shoot at.

Better get some liability insurance 'cause it's only a matter of time before your kids take the guitar to school and kill someone with it.  Think of the children, and vote for controls on the sale of club-like guitar including software to minors!

Seriously, I've heard good stuff about that "game" and I'm glad at least one company is making nice non-shooter games.  Never seen it in person though.

I actually have one. :) It's pretty cool. Instead of strings, it has 5 buttons? Can't remember, either 4 or 5 colored buttons. That you press when the game tells you too.

The actual game has alot of good music in it too.

It has five buttons but until you work up to the "hard" level you'll only need four.

My son plays at hard and expert level.

It gives me Nintendo thumbs just watching.

Just looked it up.  80 bucks.  You are paying 80 bucks for a fake guitar.

I believe you can pick up a decent beginner set for 180.  Why would you ever waste money on a fake guitar?

Maybe people like myself who don't care anything about guitars or learning how to play one? I got mine for the kid mainly, however I play it sometimes.

It's not a fake quitar. It's a playstation controller shaped like a guitar. It's a game, not a musical instrument.

Sandy.  Repeat that last bit over to yourself.

It has no use outside of that game.  Hence, fake guitar.

Guess my CH pro is a "fake throttle". I paid over $100 for a "fake throttle". It has no use whatsoever outside of the video game I bought it for. Why would I ever do that?

So for those 100 bucks for the throttle, could you easily buy the real thing for only a little bit more?

A half-dedicated search turned up a couple, so yeah I could. It's beside the point, though. I have no interest in owning a real one or piloting a real airplane. I just like to play video games when it comes to that.

If he bought the throttle for use in the game, as sandy bought guitar hero with the "fake" guitar for use in the game. How would buying a real one for even a little more work in those situations?

They released Guitar Hero II a couple of weeks ago.

Lots of improvements over the first game, most notably the cooperative mode. You can play with one person taking the lead while another takes rhythm or bass.

Pretty good song list too. It has the Allman Brothers' "Jessica" and even Free Bird. The Foo Fighter's "Monkey Wrench" is a hoot.

Lasersailors problems date back to an unfortunate incident as a child with his playskool guitar:

If your kid has interest in actually playing guitar, pick him up a package like this (http://www.as-seen-on-tv-top-products.com/esteban-guitar-lesson.asp).
