Title: How Deep is AH Hell?
Post by: Bullethead on March 01, 2006, 01:30:12 PM
Last night I was gunning in a 110 on the deck when my pilot disco'd, and it took the host over a minute to figure out what to do with me.  During that time, I did a long, tumbling lipskid across the ground, through the trees and buildings, rolling over and over and making curves all seemingly at random.  Looking at my speed in the film viewer, I saw it fluctuate wildly, but I got well over 1000mph a couple times.

The interesting thing was, all this time the viewer also shows my alt going down, down, down, at an incredible rate of descent.  It showed my alt as a negative number, and this got to just over -101K before the host snatched me back to the tower and said I'd "landed" successfully :D.

So the question is, how deep is AH Hell?  How much further down below -101K is it?  Or was I in it the whole time?

Here's (http://forums.delphiforums.com/OpsShack/messages?msg=4940.1) the film, in my squad's BBS.

You would like AH Hell....1000 ewes for every downed pilot. Used to go there in circumstances like you describe. :)

LOL you know me.

Basicly I'd alt-F4. Pulling the pug for me involves putting my beer down, getting up, going to the other side of my room to the router and finding the cat5 cable going to my PC. Which can take some time depending on how many beers I've had.

Huh ... I saw something weird last night near some field or other ... there was a low con that dropped below radar. Then it dipped below sea level. You could see the tops of the neon, barely. It raced along through trees, a few hills, and came out the other side. Then vanished. I think I saw enough of the neon that it said "G-S" or something like that. Maybe it was you. It wasn't a typical warp to the tower, though. I followed this bogey for 15 or 20 seconds as it defied the laws of time and space.

As hell is a questionable religious concept and Ah is a virtual emulation of life, hell could be as deep as you wish.

In AH I'm a peaceful farmer - with nasty war going on all around me - it IS hell!

My cows hide in the trees, my chickens cower in the (burnt out) farm house and as for my sheep! Well, they are just as frightened of downed Nit pilots as they are of the bombs.

LOL

Ha! I hopped in a lanc as gunner when someone desperately pleaded... he discoed and I ended up spinning off into outer space. :D

The AH earth become smaller and smaller and soon I was zooming past 100K. It actually starts to look like a white ball below you at that alt. I couldn't bail and after I probably passed 120K, I looked up...

and AKAK was above me in his 38 trying to get a shot!:O

Yes it is working! Finally after all this time I have suceeded with my AH Philadelphia experiment. We will rule the MA with our Philadelphia planes, tanks, troops, task forces. It will be glorious:t  I shall name my squadron Cream cheese and my new arena name shall be Loxnbagel. We will rule the world. Operation Philadelphia / Cream cheese is now in effect:noid

While a hilarious write-up it's inaccurate. Above a certain altitude you cannot see the earth (haze kicks in). Above 95k your plane disappears for some reason (but it still there, descending to below 95k makes it reappear).

You can test this yourself offline with wind updraft and a lot of free time.

There was a bug in AH1 where if you take a goon and get it up past about 36K, rocket boosters appear and you zoom up to the edge of outer space before you run out of fuel. I made it up to about 200-250K before I ran out of fuel. And this was in the MA online

The best AH hell moment for me, was when a squaddie and I took PT boats to a city to blow the hell out of it... of course a total scorepotato move but it was funny

So we spawned out and in the water there was a hill of water in front of the city. We headed over to get closer to the town and off the edge into AH hell.......

Nothing quite like a PT boat screaming for a few minutes into a watery hell

:aok

I haven't tried for an alt record in AH2, but in AH1 it used to be as Rolex said.  Your plane never disappeared and you never got away from seeing a white ball down there somewhere, although it got VERY small sometimes if you were WAY up there.  Another thing in AH1 was what we called the 75k Speedbump.  When you reached that alt, the flight model had a glitch that suddenly slammed your TAS down to match your IAS.  This was a big enough bump to kill you sometimes, and it almost always blacked you out if you were going straight up at 600+ TAS in a 163 when this happened :).  Of course, with the TAS much lower than it should have been, your ROC dropped a lot at this point and never recovered.  This put 100k out of reach for a 163 starting at 0 ASL with normal fuel burn.  Of course, at the 2nd AH Con when they 1st appeared, we had practically unlimited fuel for the Evil Mission, so got up above 150k before getting bored.

You can do that whenever you want. Go offline or to H2H, grab a PT and ram it into the angled part of the lower stern on a CV and keep turning into it. It'll shove your nose down and you'll either shoot straight up into the air and fall back down or pierce the wall of AH Hell and fall for eternity.

The High-Alt trick can be done offline with God's Eye view.
