Title: Two biplanes to dogfight: Fokkers vs Camels
Post by: passssao on March 01, 2006, 03:38:09 PM
Hi all:
I know that  this thread have been posted so much times, but i want give some point of view.

AH is a second world war game, the most variety of planes and types of planes in big formations, the era is the top on propeller planes and dogfigt.
That is right and is how the game must be.

First worl war has few planes, and the differences between planes are much more closer than in WWII planes, speed can goes from 110mph to 135mph the fast, but it is the turn & burner heaven, really you got close on the enemy plane to land hits.

I am not talking to make a WWI arena, my idea is only modelling a pair of biplanes, like the fokker dr1 and the camel by example, they don't need to be too accurate in excess, JUST FOR FUN, the taste is to fly a slow plane, where you need put as much caution in fly it right as you put in see the shoot the enemy.

Dueling arena can be a good place for them, see it as an exotic plane as the me-163 can be, is just another way to fly.

I wish in one place in time, we can get a pair of wwI planes.

Salute all, Passao

I would prefer a Gloster Gladiator and a Fairey Swordfish.  They were bi-planes that at least saw action in WW2, and therefore have a "place" in AH.

But your sentiments are shared by many.

Hi all again:

Some relfexions more:

Off course AH is a Bussines and must find the way to earn money, looking for the more supported base of players, and without waste efforts in experiments. WWI arenas have never gotten many players.

With only a biplane i think it is enough, don't waste time modelling two, we can get funny fights althought we fly the same plane.

Salute all, and excuse me by the retry

Gladiator

and CR42

Would make the Finnish happy, would make the British happy, would make the Italians happy, would make all the furballers/duellers happy, would make the AvA'ers happy, would make the scenario team happy.

Where's Arlo when we need em to ask for the Spanish Civil War arena?  Throw in the early Russian stuff, I-15 and 1-16 .  Then throw in the He-51 for the Germans.  The Italian stuff and the Gladiator.  And while we're at it, P-12s, F3Fs and some of the other 1930s end of the line bi-plane fighters.

Sounds like the 1930s arena to me :)

actually, there were quite a few different WWI aircraft. most people just know about the Fokker Dr.I, DVII, sopwith cammel and the spad, but nobody knows about the countless other aircraft that were around. for crying out loud, even the mexicans made their own planes.

Not going to happen. For the same reason you don't see post-war planes.

I know the idea was intended to be original and new, and it is appreciated as such, but realistically we will never see that happen.

There were dozens of planes during WWI - and the Fokker scourge (twice!) meant that sometimes the planes were unbalanced - sometimes anyway.

Agree with Furball, best thing to do, if we want biplanes (I want them! :) ) is to add Gloster Gladiator and Fiat CR.42 Falco.

WW2 Spotters - Lysander, Storch, Grasshopper...
Did the Italians, Russians and Japs have one?

russians used the Po-2. japanese used (among other things) the first autogyro to be used in combat for artillery spotting.

I like the idea of 1930's biplanes in a dedicated arena. I love the idea of CR-42 Falco and Gladiators as well. The could be even included in a early rollin plane set and/or scenario (North Africa, Malta ...)

C'mon HTC, we have the CR-42 flight manual ready :)
