Is there an advantage to use one mode over the other? I understand that shooting ground objects in fighter mode is pretty much a waste of time if you are concerned about points, so it seems to make more sense to have your sorties always set to "attack", yet everyone's scores show that "fighter" is what they're using the most. What's the real deal with this option?
-
In "fighter" mode, any air to ground kills do not count for score. Also any bullet hitting a ground object will count as "miss" for your hit%.
In "attack" mode, A2A as well as A2G kills are counted.
In the end, the only difference it makes is for scoring/ranking reasons.
-
Whats important to you, shooting down planes? Or buildings, object, ground vehicles, etc.
All depends on what gives you that "kick", what drives your bus.

Thanx !! :aok

So, why even have players choose between Fighter or Attack? Why not automatically throw everyone into the Attack category?
-
certain planes don't have the ability to be classified as attack -- yaks and a couple of others.
I'm guessing the choice was/is there to allow you to sort sorties and thus be able to take risks flying low to kill objects on the ground versus flying slightly higher to take on those objects in the sky and score those sorties appropriately.

Not picking on SHawk here ;)
But look at his score for last tour in fighters....he usually gets it up to insane numbers then flies the rest of the tour in attack so as not to damage his number 1 ranking.
-
I wouldn't worry about it. You ought to be flying for fun, not numbers on a spread sheet.

You know thats the wonderful thing about AH. It lets everyone do what they want to do.
If you choose to always fly to build your score, hit %, K/d thats your choice.
It may lead you to the dark side, give you ulcers and destroy your life. But its your choice.
Myself I find that perhaps one tour out of 4 or 5 I'll care about rank at all.
Ussually when I happen to get a couple of good fighter sorties early in the tour.
But even half a tour flying like that bores me to no end.
Soon I'm back flyin & diein like normal, just for the sheer fun of it.

I guess the only thing I really care about is the K/D ratio, that gives me an indication if I'm improving or not :)
Thanx for the input guys :)
