Post by: guttboy on March 02, 2006, 08:54:21 PM
Hi everyone,

Quick question for you....I have an Ipod Nano and use it alot.  I am having eye surgery and will have to keep my eyes closed for a couple of days....anyone know of some really good audiobooks I could purchase for listening while I am recovering?

Thanks!

Mike:)

Hot Kid CD [UNABRIDGED] (Audio CD)
by Elmore Leonard, Howard Arliss (Narrator)

Listened to this one on a long drive. 1930's style crime drama. Not bad, made the drive a lot shorter. Fairly long too. 7 CD's IIRC.

I don't know how I landed on this, but the one and only audio book I've ever listened to was "Kitchen Confidential: Adventures In The Culinary Underbelly"

I don't cook or anything, and can't remember how this ended up on my ipod (don't ask) but it had me glued.

Here's a reviewer's description:

Quote
When Chef Anthony Bourdain wrote "Don't Eat Before You Read This" in The New Yorker, he spared no one's appetite, revealing what goes on behind the kitchen door. In Kitchen Confidential, he expanded that appetizer into a deliciously funny, delectable shocking banquet that lays out his 25 years of sex, drugs, and haute cuisine.

From his first oyster in the Gironde to the kitchen of the Rainbow Room atop Rockefeller Center, from the restaurants of Tokyo to the drug dealers of the East Village, from the mobsters to the rats, Bourdain's brilliantly written, wild-but-true tales make the belly ache with laughter.

... and the guy has one of those voices that makes the narration of it very easy to listen to. It was a lot of fun. Hmm... I should try another one of these audio books now that you mention it.

gosh, I would hate that - having my eyes closed for a couple days....   g'luck with  that.  I'd try to download a variety of audiobooks, articles, essays, newstories and humor to keep the monkey mind occupied ... and maybe make sure my cats are nearby.

Thanks everyone!

I really would like something easily downloaded to the Ipod....disks may pose a problem...I dunno.

Looks as though I will have to keep eyes closed for 2 days roughly but I wont be able to watch TV, Read, Computer for upwards of a week to 10 days.  ( I was told I may be able to drive at 1 week...LOL....RIGHT!  <--best cosby voice).

Ill keep you all posted...any other suggestions keep them coming!:aok
